Ditto what Colin says
David Parkins at Flightpath does a great upgrade set which includes the wheel bays at £29.70 but it includes so much more. I bought a set for my as yet unstarted Hunter but it looks really good

Hi Nick
Don't know if you spotted that theres a part started Aeroclub Gloster Gauntlet on E bay. Its still available new from Aeroclub at £22.55 so it shouldn't really go for any more than asking price of £9.99 I'd have thought but you never know !
Also had you thought of the bombers and the trainers???
There's the DH Tiger Moth - Aeroclub and SMER
Special Hobby Miles Magister
Sanger Miles Master
Sanger does some vac forms of early WW2 types that saw service pre war in their early marks
They have a new Whitley just coming out now and of course you can have a fight with either their Hampden or the Fonderie Minatures one
Classic Airframes Avro Anson
Short Sunderland ? various expensive kits available and threats of Fonderie Minitures one that never seems to get any closer to arriving
If you want inspiration have a look at
Model Alliance decals Wings of Silver Parts 1 and 2 available from them direct and from Hanants. I think they do a Fleet Air Arm set as well.
also the Book Wings Of Silver which covers RAF fighter types between the wars
I am at the office but I think I have an old SMER 1/48 Swordfish floatplane which I was going to chuck after getting the Tamiya kit. You are welcome to it as a freebie if I still have it but please bear in mind I might find its long since been binned and I have forgotten so no promises ! I think its in a pile that was headed for the charity shop on recollection and that trip was not made.
I'll send you a pm tonight

question answered !!
much appreciated

Is this 1/48 model from Special Hobby any good or are you better trying to work with a Hasegawa Vb and converting it?
Over to the Spit experts please !!
thanks
John

Logically, yes: they should be 50% bigger than the 1/72 equivalent. So, if they aren't, it would seem that either Hannants have sent you the wrong thing or QB have sent out a batch of 1/72 stuff in 1/48 packaging.
Nick
I have just received a couple of sets for a lanc and another project and first reaction was that they were very "fine" but I had not gotten around to looking at them further. I put my first reaction down to the thought that probably the kit guns we are used to are overscale due to production requirements etc a bit like undercarriage details
Trouble is I have no idea of size of the real thing. Am at work just now but will get them out and have a good look again tonight. I also havea copy of "Guns of the RAF" which has some great photos but I can't recall if it has sizes detailed as its some years since I last read it.
Anyone know what length they were and what that would scale to in 1/48?
Thanks
John

what I find bizzare about e-bay is that people often bid much more than what the item can be bought new for and then from a reputable supplier like Hannants or second hand from the likes of Kingkit. I recently saw a resin accessory being bid at twice the price Hannants will supply it at ????????

Hi all,
I picked up the 1/48 Trumpeter Seahawk FGA.6 at ModelKraft yesterday. I'm after an alternative scheme, but am struggling to find any choices. Are there any aftermarket sheets available?
Cheers,
Gareth
Hi Gareth
Model Alliance do a nice sheet
HMS Ark Royal Carrier Air Wing selection featuring 2 Sea Hawk options at £15 - in stock

Thanks Ian and John
John - nice work. I had heard that the Neomega set was very good and its nice to hear you confirm that. I was thinking about going down the same lines as yourself but the thought of adding the price of the Neomega set - if you can get one - to what I have shelled out already fro the donor kit and the aeroclub set did make me think twice but what the ... you only live once !
Nice markings. Where did you get the decals?
Ian - ditto the comments on your thoughts on the Neomega set, much appreciated as was the link
Thanks to all you guys who responded for the input. All very helpful as always on BM !!
regards
John
Now to find a Neomega set for sale !!
-
I agree with Tony. I have all three sets and Aeroclubs was first. The other fuselage parts match Johns exactly, right down to the panel lines. So that being said, I recommend the original if you can get it. Cheers
Mike
Thanks Mike and Tony
I was lucky enough to get a full Aeroclub conversion set a while back and I have the donor kit too all waiting. I was wondering if the cockpit contents of the Aeroclub version could be improved on.
Confess I had not realised that you needed the Aeroclub forward fuselage for the other 2 sets though ! That could get seriously expensive !
thanks again

Can any Lightning Experten out there advise which set is best for a conversion of the Airfix 1/48 kit?
I have the Aeroclub pack already but have seen the CMK version available from Hannants (or on E-Bay if you want to pay more -
go figure) and also hear that Neomega do a cockpit interior tooSo which way to go?

Thanks
John

I try to have it quite hot, and then dip the piece into the water for short periods. Just be careful, and you will get the feel for it.
My wife hates when I do such things. Something about why I need the kitchen when I already occupy more than one room...

Thanks
by the way your wife and mine related? - all so familiar. Or is it just a case of MWAGS (Modellers Wives and Girlfiends) syndrome?
-
Heat is the way to go. Either hot water, or something like a hairdryer. I like the hot water method better. I feel I have better control than with the hot air.
Thanks
I guess that as you have your hands in the water it would be about hot water temp for washing dishes - just as a rule of thumb? Or hotter with your Marigolds on??!!!!
Better not let my wife see me otherwise I'll never hear the end of the dishwashing jibes

Hi
Can anyone tell me if its possible to "fix" a set of Mastercasters 1/32 Lightning Exhaust Nozzles that Hannants sent flat packed (!) with some decals and an etch set with the resulting bent and indented ends on the "oval" can petals? Or should I forget it and return them to supplier? Would that be the equivalent of being a modelling Wuss though?
Thanks
John

Definately a T4, XM968 ?
Thats what I've seen quoted elsewhere

Hi Serelle
I have a copy of a privately published book on the history of 111 sqn title "Adstantes" and it has a an appendix in the back giving this info. I am at work just now but will look it out tonight and send you a pm.

John
PS I saw 2 used copies for sale on Amazon Books at £10 plus postage.

I read the bit about the UK and France wanting the new kit quickly but the Germans wanting to delay and spread costs over a greater number of years. Sound familiar anyone?
Last time round the Brit taxpayer ended up paying more for a fighter that arguably was too late to service and more expensive than it needed to be due delays caused by one party who will remain nameless. Lets hope that lesson has been learned and this time we go and build a replacement aircraft with our Euro allies albeit one I think that is already running late?? Perhaps we should exclude certain partners due their track record for procrastination and internal politicking.
Please note - this is not a Euro swipe gripe but just an observation that collaberation projects can only work if all the partners agree and then sing the same tune - and to the same tempo

As I mentioned on another post I will be off to the East Fortune museum - snow permitting - they have a Bucc with wings folded and air brakes open on display and if anyone wants a detail pic of anything then let me know and I'll do what I can to help out

Hi Guys
As we are getting another fall of snow this am I think discretion should be the better part of valour and I'll postpone my visit for another weekend. I don't think anyone is in a rush for pics and it will give anyone else a chance to add to the wants list !
So far I have requests for
BAC111
707
Tornado F3
Lightning
Sea Venom
Meteor
Jaguar
several others and
Buccaneer
Buccaneer
Buccaneer
Buccaneer
Buccaneer
and , oh yes, the
Buccaneer
anyone know why the Buc is so popular??

Hi Guys
sorry but an attempt to get there today was defeated by the snow. It fell all last night and the cars on the drive are up to the tops of their wheels in packed - not fluffy fallen - snow. The main roads are "passable with care" but when I was on them in an all wheel drive they were tricky and anything off the A roads was just too slippery to contemplate, especially with a three year old passenger. SWMBO has promised time off at East Fortune next weekend so its just a rain check and not a cancellation.
Meantime the good news is that a lawyer in my firm has told me something very interesting in response to hearing of the failure of my holiday plans. It seems that she has just acted for someone senior in the museum (she is not sure what he does exactly) but has e-mailed him to see if I can get extended access to exhibits etc. Now that would be nice for photos etc !!!!!!!!!!!
Meantime keep the requests coming and
Can anyone tell me the best way of getting pics onto the net so I can take lots for you all?
best wishes from snowy Oxton
John

Could you do me some of the BAC 1-11 wheel bays and UC please. If you see the old BA 707 a couple of that would be nice.
thanks
No problem
unless submerged in snow that is ! Looks like being a crap weekend for weather in South Scotland so just how to first foot I really don't know. I'll just have to stay at home and drink all the buy in myself then

John, I have to admit that I don't know how to send a PM...or at least, I can't see anything obvious that indicates 'click here' to do so!
Would it be possible to get a good look at the Meteor's landing light attachment on the nosewheel leg...snowy conditions permitting, of course?
If it's any consolation to you, it reached 42 degrees here yesterday...and our summer has only just begun!
Best wishes for the new year,
Tim.
Hi Tim
no problem. I don't know how standard the Ferranti test bed ended up. My Uncle worked for them at the time and he did loads of internal brackets for test equipment on that machine and the Canberra they had none of which were ever formally authorised or subject to drawings. He also helped with the paint job. I'll get you some general airframe shots as well.
I passed out side the Museum yesterday. Its a back road and not treated/gritted. I was going slow when hit a small patch of black ice and drifted into the verge. No damage but if I had not had an estate with all wheel drive I'd still be sitting there !
to do a pm just click on my name and you will get a drop down menu one option being send a message. Click on that and away you go !
Have some consolation with the temperature in that we put a new wood burner in the house last week and have turned down the central heating cos of the heat it belts out !
regards
