I read the bit about the UK and France wanting the new kit quickly but the Germans wanting to delay and spread costs over a greater number of years. Sound familiar anyone? Last time round the Brit taxpayer ended up paying more for a fighter that arguably was too late to service and more expensive than it needed to be due delays caused by one party who will remain nameless. Lets hope that lesson has been learned and this time we go and build a replacement aircraft with our Euro allies albeit one I think that is already running late?? Perhaps we should exclude certain partners due their track record for procrastination and internal politicking. Please note - this is not a Euro swipe gripe but just an observation that collaberation projects can only work if all the partners agree and then sing the same tune - and to the same tempo JohnT

As I mentioned on another post I will be off to the East Fortune museum - snow permitting - they have a Bucc with wings folded and air brakes open on display and if anyone wants a detail pic of anything then let me know and I'll do what I can to help out JohnT

Hi Guys As we are getting another fall of snow this am I think discretion should be the better part of valour and I'll postpone my visit for another weekend. I don't think anyone is in a rush for pics and it will give anyone else a chance to add to the wants list ! So far I have requests for BAC111 707 Tornado F3 Lightning Sea Venom Meteor Jaguar several others and Buccaneer Buccaneer Buccaneer Buccaneer Buccaneer and , oh yes, the Buccaneer anyone know why the Buc is so popular?? Hi Guys sorry but an attempt to get there today was defeated by the snow. It fell all last night and the cars on the drive are up to the tops of their wheels in packed - not fluffy fallen - snow. The main roads are "passable with care" but when I was on them in an all wheel drive they were tricky and anything off the A roads was just too slippery to contemplate, especially with a three year old passenger. SWMBO has promised time off at East Fortune next weekend so its just a rain check and not a cancellation. Meantime the good news is that a lawyer in my firm has told me something very interesting in response to hearing of the failure of my holiday plans. It seems that she has just acted for someone senior in the museum (she is not sure what he does exactly) but has e-mailed him to see if I can get extended access to exhibits etc. Now that would be nice for photos etc !!!!!!!!!!! Meantime keep the requests coming and Can anyone tell me the best way of getting pics onto the net so I can take lots for you all? best wishes from snowy Oxton John

Hi Edgar er - put the "few" I forgot down to old age and a while since I have been and thanks- you reminded me - I think the Harrier GR1 has a GRs nose stuck on the front ! John Mike, Howard and Hazza - will do guys - its looking like Sunday for the trip at the minute ! regards

Hi Tim no problem. I don't know how standard the Ferranti test bed ended up. My Uncle worked for them at the time and he did loads of internal brackets for test equipment on that machine and the Canberra they had none of which were ever formally authorised or subject to drawings. He also helped with the paint job. I'll get you some general airframe shots as well. I passed out side the Museum yesterday. Its a back road and not treated/gritted. I was going slow when hit a small patch of black ice and drifted into the verge. No damage but if I had not had an estate with all wheel drive I'd still be sitting there ! to do a pm just click on my name and you will get a drop down menu one option being send a message. Click on that and away you go ! Have some consolation with the temperature in that we put a new wood burner in the house last week and have turned down the central heating cos of the heat it belts out ! regards John

Hi JB No problem - happy to oblige I did recall there was something odd about her - like the GR3 Harrier which isn't (I thinK?) I'll find out at the weekend ! I recall she is under cover and doing well - sadly I thought the Vulcan was looking very tired last time I saw her and she needs to be under cover soonest. regards John

Hi I am going to get to (eventually and snow permitting) East Fortune Museum this coming weekend - it seems to be open. I will be taking the camera to peer into some Bucc wheel wells and intakes, wing fold etc for a fellow BM'er. Anyone want some pics of their other exhibits while I am there? Bucc Pink Jaguar Sea Venom Sea Hawk Ferranti Meteor test bed Lightning (F3 ?? I think?) Me 163 Concorde Polish Mig 15 Harrier GR3 (I recall some doubts about history of this airframe) Tiger and Puss Moths DH Dragon SA Pioneer twin pin Tornado Canberra cockpit Beaufighter cockpit and bits under restoration along with a Blenheim/Bollingbroke in same condition Vulcan - outside and under 3 feet of snow at the minute Thats from memory. I can't see an exhibit list on their web site which is a poor show but then again maybe old age just has me missing it Send me a pm and am happy to help out regards and best wishes for 2010 John

Love it, brilliant brings back a similar memory - thanks John

Hi Chris Happy to oblige. I think I will be able to get there some time next week. I have not learned how to post pics on line in a photo site yet but can send them to you as an e-mail attachment if you pm your e-mail addy to me. They have been moving things around a bit if I recall but the Sea Venom had/had a cockpit viewing platform so you can get pics from above as it were. Not so with the Bucc but I'll take the aluminium steps and ask if they will let me take pics from them - no doubt Health and safety wil have kittens ! The Buccs wings are folded so it should be possible to get some close shots of that. You interested in the pink Jag as well? JohnT

Dear Wienne have a look at the pics here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/emdjt42/4063305673/ and at the East Fortune Air Museum web site. They have a FAW22 example I plan a visit over the Christmas holidays and will be taking pics of a Buccaneer wheel bay for another Britmodeller. Anything that you would like pics of? regards JohnT PS to Britmodellers generally take this as an open invite if you want detail pics of their other exhibits and I'll do my best to help out

Hi Tony and thanks have just done that and posted a feeler to see if anyone wants rid of a Meteor T7 in 1/48. I think they are out of stock most places. Might have to be an evil bay job Have been assisted today by JohnM with a trade fro a two seat Hunter conversion and donor kit - thanks John - much appreciated. JohnT
-
That sounds very useful. Any help/info much appreciated John

Hi Dave I think thats the book I was working from. "Adstantes" is the title - small yellow cover paperbcak? There is no pics inside that but useful type ref in the appendix with serial numbers etc. Thats how I found out about the 2 seaters - just when I thought I was almost home and dry ! You keep learning in this hobby thats for sure !! John
-
Hi as you may have noticed I am trying to do all the types of 111 Sqn service in 1/48. One type fails me - the Vickers FB19. There isn't and almost certainly won't be a model produced so if I want one in 1/48 to complete the line up I'll need to go scratchbuilding. Problem is where do you start as a total novice used to injection and the odd vac form? Can anyone suggest a book or whatever as a "Scratchbuilding for Dummies" style introduction? Meantime I am going to trawl through this forum and try and stay optimistic !! thanks John
-
Hi guys I am trying to set up a project so I can build a 1/48 scale model of each type used by 111. I was chuffed to get all I need to start all the front line types with the exception of the Vickers FB19 - yes I had never heard of it either - as no such model exists. Anyway, I am reading through the book on the squadron history when I discover that they used several types for hacks, training, communications etc So I have sourced a Magister, and a 2 seat Vampire trainer but looking for a two seat meteor and hunter conversion. Meantime does anyone have any idea where I might get some pics of these types in service with 111? I can get the operational types a plenty but not the hacks? Thanks for any help regards John

I'd guess unbuilt more valuable as more capable of re-sale though know what you mean

Thats the problem. Each insurer may take a differing view. I suspect that any group of models would be regarded in the same way as a set of expensive prints, stamps or whatever. If the insurer has not been told and has not cleared it then most likely they will only pay out a restricted amount if anything at all. I have dealt with cases where they just voided the policy - everything - and handed back the premiums paid. Not a single client has sued as the insurer would have fought it all the way and the clients can't afford to take cases through the courts and on to appeals. The insurers have deeper pockets Insurance law reverses to normal duties of disclosure. The doctrine is called "ultimate good faith". In other words the applicant for insurance has to tell the insurer everything that might affect the insurers risk and their decision as to whether to insure and on what terms. If they don't the insurer can bump them. The problem from the insurers perspective is that each item by itself will fall under the individual items limit so as long as you lose one or two its not a problem. Once the insured puts in a claim saying that he has lost say 160 models in a fire and together they would be worth say, £30-40 each with after market stuff to replace etc (and this assumes a "new for old" policy) you now have a claim for what? £6,400 ? Most policies will have a clause limiting claims to £2,000 or £2,500 for any one item and a "collection" will normally be rolled into one item. The policy will vary from insurer to insurer. But here is the rub. If there is a claim and if there is a loop hole the insurer will bump you. When you are applying for insurance they need your business and most times they won't bother at all. If they do ask for a bigger premium its like to be buttons - or another insurer won't ask just to get the new business. So act before you need to claim as they need you more than you need them. Once you are a claim they don't want you any more and its cheaper to give you your money back than a cheque for what? £25,000 plus to replace furnishings and your models after a fire? The moral is ask now and get proof they approved it so if you have to claim they are stuffed. Or you might be instead ! If anyone has any particular issues drop me a pm and I'll answer as best I can. John
