a client handed me 17 MM magazines from 1975-78 or thereabouts. Kind thought but I am a plane type of guy. Anyone want them before they go to the recycling yard? Free to a good modelling home JohnT

Was this the experimental flexible landing deck used on HMS Warrior to see if FAA aircraft could do without undercarriage? Eric "Winkle" Brown landed the prototype Vampire on Warrior in proof of concept trials as detailed in his biography. Great pic of him landing the Vampire hook down and no gear. One of his many "firsts". There were many other succesful landings after that but the idea never took hold. JohnT

I don't know why but out of the blue I remember having a Revell (?) product which went together rather like a toy cardboard puppet stage with pre printed scenes, tents etc so that you could put your WW1 1/72 Triplane, Albatros et all on to it as a basic diorama. I had the WW1 airfield but I am sure they must have done others. I can't find any reference to them though and wonder if anyone else recalls them at all? Ah - nostalgia John

Hi Peter One of the very first aviation books I bought was his diary/journal called "The Lonely Warrior" and edited by Victor Houart, first published in English in 1956 by Souvenir press and in paperback by Consul Books. I found it as a 12 year old in the book section at Woolies Princes Street and still have it some 45 years later albeit very yellowed round the edges. It was the first time a book of that type left a huge impression and I have never forgotten it - or him. Was there another book about him? John

Hi Bill I have the old article for a project but had not realised you had done a more recent one. Can you let me know the ref so I can try for a copy or anyone able to send one? Would be very much appreciated as I have a long standing love affair for the Victor after seeing a magical head on photo of one in a childhood book Hippo book of bombers. It just stood out as the most amazing looking aircraft ever. regards John

Wish I could help. Have never seen a pink Buccaneer hanging from the roof in a bar myself. The odd pink Loxodonta quietly grazing away while I nurse the umpteenth pint perhaps but a complete Bucc? Time for therapy Seriously though - it would have looked great

If it helps Aeromaster do a couple of 1/32 decal sets for Korean War Aces available from Hannants
-
Not a good week after the Koreans losing three guys Lets hope that there are no casualties on the ground as the plane came down in a built up area http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/8546735.stm

Ditto what Colin says David Parkins at Flightpath does a great upgrade set which includes the wheel bays at £29.70 but it includes so much more. I bought a set for my as yet unstarted Hunter but it looks really good John

Hi Nick Don't know if you spotted that theres a part started Aeroclub Gloster Gauntlet on E bay. Its still available new from Aeroclub at £22.55 so it shouldn't really go for any more than asking price of £9.99 I'd have thought but you never know ! Also had you thought of the bombers and the trainers??? There's the DH Tiger Moth - Aeroclub and SMER Special Hobby Miles Magister Sanger Miles Master Sanger does some vac forms of early WW2 types that saw service pre war in their early marks They have a new Whitley just coming out now and of course you can have a fight with either their Hampden or the Fonderie Minatures one Classic Airframes Avro Anson Short Sunderland ? various expensive kits available and threats of Fonderie Minitures one that never seems to get any closer to arriving If you want inspiration have a look at Model Alliance decals Wings of Silver Parts 1 and 2 available from them direct and from Hanants. I think they do a Fleet Air Arm set as well. also the Book Wings Of Silver which covers RAF fighter types between the wars I am at the office but I think I have an old SMER 1/48 Swordfish floatplane which I was going to chuck after getting the Tamiya kit. You are welcome to it as a freebie if I still have it but please bear in mind I might find its long since been binned and I have forgotten so no promises ! I think its in a pile that was headed for the charity shop on recollection and that trip was not made. I'll send you a pm tonight John

Thanks question answered !! much appreciated John
-
Is this 1/48 model from Special Hobby any good or are you better trying to work with a Hasegawa Vb and converting it? Over to the Spit experts please !! thanks John

I have just received a couple of sets for a lanc and another project and first reaction was that they were very "fine" but I had not gotten around to looking at them further. I put my first reaction down to the thought that probably the kit guns we are used to are overscale due to production requirements etc a bit like undercarriage details Trouble is I have no idea of size of the real thing. Am at work just now but will get them out and have a good look again tonight. I also havea copy of "Guns of the RAF" which has some great photos but I can't recall if it has sizes detailed as its some years since I last read it. Anyone know what length they were and what that would scale to in 1/48? Thanks John

what I find bizzare about e-bay is that people often bid much more than what the item can be bought new for and then from a reputable supplier like Hannants or second hand from the likes of Kingkit. I recently saw a resin accessory being bid at twice the price Hannants will supply it at ????????

Hi Gareth Model Alliance do a nice sheet HMS Ark Royal Carrier Air Wing selection featuring 2 Sea Hawk options at £15 - in stock see link:- http://www.theaviationworkshop.co.uk/decal...mier/MA-121.php Hope this helps John

Thanks Ian and John John - nice work. I had heard that the Neomega set was very good and its nice to hear you confirm that. I was thinking about going down the same lines as yourself but the thought of adding the price of the Neomega set - if you can get one - to what I have shelled out already fro the donor kit and the aeroclub set did make me think twice but what the ... you only live once ! Nice markings. Where did you get the decals? Ian - ditto the comments on your thoughts on the Neomega set, much appreciated as was the link Thanks to all you guys who responded for the input. All very helpful as always on BM !! regards John Now to find a Neomega set for sale !!
-
Thanks Mike and Tony I was lucky enough to get a full Aeroclub conversion set a while back and I have the donor kit too all waiting. I was wondering if the cockpit contents of the Aeroclub version could be improved on. Confess I had not realised that you needed the Aeroclub forward fuselage for the other 2 sets though ! That could get seriously expensive ! thanks again John

Can any Lightning Experten out there advise which set is best for a conversion of the Airfix 1/48 kit? I have the Aeroclub pack already but have seen the CMK version available from Hannants (or on E-Bay if you want to pay more - go figure) and also hear that Neomega do a cockpit interior too So which way to go? Thanks John
-
Thanks by the way your wife and mine related? - all so familiar. Or is it just a case of MWAGS (Modellers Wives and Girlfiends) syndrome?
-
Thanks I guess that as you have your hands in the water it would be about hot water temp for washing dishes - just as a rule of thumb? Or hotter with your Marigolds on??!!!! Better not let my wife see me otherwise I'll never hear the end of the dishwashing jibes

Hi Can anyone tell me if its possible to "fix" a set of Mastercasters 1/32 Lightning Exhaust Nozzles that Hannants sent flat packed (!) with some decals and an etch set with the resulting bent and indented ends on the "oval" can petals? Or should I forget it and return them to supplier? Would that be the equivalent of being a modelling Wuss though? Thanks John
