  1. Simon, I suspect you know but Iconicair do bulged doors for the HK Lancaster as well as a Tallboy. Not sure if they would work with the new Lancaster of course. The answer is get one of each. You only live once

  3. Pete - thanks for looking that stuff up for me. I suspect you are right but its so long ago that that frontage doesn't register - but then I don't recall the shop or its layout. Just it was a regular stop every one of my three IoW holidays. much appreciated John
  4. Pete yes Browns Boating Lake rings a bell. Mum and dad sat at the cafe having a tea while I played at the Cockleshell Heroes in a canoe/kayak. The FN rifle was earlier and was out in the late 50's I think. Certainly I got mine in around 1964-65 circa. They also did a Thompson sub machine gun as well. I always hoped they would do a Bren. Changed days - try selling replica guns to boys kids now I think the model shop also sold toys but had a model department. Mind you I was 11-12 and that wasn't yesterday !!
  5. That tickled the memory cells. If there was only the one model shop and I suspect there was my 10-11 year old self was tickled pink one year on holiday to purchase the Airfix 1/72 Heinkel 111 and a FN rifle. Couldn’t wait to get home to get the glue out ! I spent most of the holiday on a boat park just over from the beach. Would that have been Sandown too.?Other highlights were watching the hovercraft ferry come up the beach at Ryde (?) and the day over to Portsmouth and round HMS Victory. Another year I acquired the Auster Antarctic and a Convair Delta Dagger. Very happy days those IOW holidays

  7. I suspect that it depends on any contract signed or agreed and it’s terms. My bet is that the publisher pays a fee and contracts to use the article as sees fit in any and all publications including reprints. You would need to see the actual terms to know for sure though. The publishers will be in breach of contract to magazine subscribers though if they have taken 12 months payment and are sending out reprints. Won’t affect off the shelf buyers though.
  8. I have become used to "Not another 1/32 Spitfire/Me109G/P-51D"* etc delete as appropriate though I can recall a childhood through teens when the 1/32 scale took off. Never though even in my wildest dreams did I expect to hear "Not another 1/32 Lanc" Modelling's Golden Age indeed

  10. In short - not really. All Phantoms other than UK ones were quite different to the UK marks. The UK ones had Rolls Royce Spey engines which meant that their fuselage shape , intakes and exhausts are quite different from all other marks.   12. Has anyone the correct paint call out for the erm, brown exhaust seen at the back of most sheep when in the field? I suppose one could justify an all white finish on the basis that the farmer has just taken them to an agricultural show and groomed them beforehand but I think realistically weathering is more likely for a diorama. And where is Shep when you need him?

  15. yes both quite right. It’s the origin of the English phrase for calling an alcoholic drink a “snifter” after how our earliest Zeppelin warning detection apparatus was developed. Still extremely brave and clever these early German designers. Put the bomb cells in the Zeppelin gas bag envelope to keep it well away from the farty crew. Can’t have high explosive mixing with Boddingtons after the event as it were. Much safer to put it beside all the hydrogen cells and………….hang on, I’ll be back in a moment…….

  18. not far off there. I read the span of the tail was greater than that of the Folland Gnat. As for the kiddies “play Victor” for Gods sake take those posts down ASAP. Otherwise Trumpy will be adding those photos to their research for a Victor model.
  19. At least I don’t have the angst of looking at a 1/32 P-38 early and turning to my Trumpeter P-38 with backdate sets etc knowing however good a job I hack out there the out of box Tamiya would beat it hands down and be an easier build. Always look on the bright side of life

  22. It would in the UK but perhaps not so much elsewhere except to real Phantom Phreaks. HK Models were/are/might get round to (delete as applicable) doing one. I read that they were progressing with one when they had trouble with their designer and had to go back to square one with that project. So I suspect its slipped way down/off the to do list. Based on how these things tend to pan out I don't recommend holding ones breath . It ain't happened till its happened and the plastic is in the boxes and is on sale the shop windows
  23. I have it on reliable authority it’s an early P-38 Lightning in 1/32. You can take that as gospel. Will please lots of folk Except me of course. I’ve just acquired everything I need to backdate Trumpeters P-38 J. That’s how I know it’s gospel and 100% guaranteed that Tamiya will add one to the catalogue.
