  1. Hi Ian and welcome aboard the happy farm. If you been lurking for any time at all you will have worked out the differing strands of lunatic humour on here that emanates from a sizeable bunch of good blokes who are generous with help and advice. Enjoy yourself Meantime I need to take Frank to task over the comment Mike has clearly got at him to spread rumours about his new flatulence (is that the word or is it affluence? I forget). Box Brownie indeed. Pah! We all know he is still using his tripod mounted glass plate under black cloak with magnesium flash powder photographic reproduction device.
  2. Am I right in guessing this never made it out the hanger?
  3. I confess that like @stevehnz I am a bit conflicted. No one died on her so its not a war grave to worry over so lift or leave alone???? If left in peace it will slowly but surely disintegrate. If raised in and is in good condition then what an exhibit. Then there is the cost of overcoming the technical issues and so far away plus would there be damage to the fragile eco system there????
  4. Yamato amd Musashi are sisters and to an untrained eye like mine I couldn't easily tell them apart. Bit like Bismark and Tirpitz I think but no doubt our ship modelling colleagues and friends are doing a at that right now I can however tell the difference between a Lancaster and a Halifax. I would - I read that some of the in flight refueling system parts were located while being used as an ash tray in the mess too - or is that just a story
  5. From what I heard its suffered from changing "visions" too. Its a protected site as its about the only WW2 fighter airfield that's fairly period as as was back in the day and should be retained for that reason alone. The new hanger was going into another site a short distance away so the new would not impact on the old. The problem seems to have been the only way (supposedly) to get the big airframes that are outside to the new hanger once built was through the belt of trees. At one stage a few decades ago the then management were not at all keen on more military types arriving and wanted to turn the site into a museum of civil types which is a bit daft on a WW2 fighter station but hey ho. Its run by the National museums of Scotland and they are museum orientated, not aviation minded. Shows when they have had a large photo of Musashi or Yamato on display with the caption HMS Warspite I've mentioned it twice but to no result.
  6. would have thought they could have moved Concorde. After all they hacked the wings off her once before to move it !!
  7. East Lothian Council refused planning permission as there were objections to fairly significant tree felling operations required. Full story here https://www.eastlothiancourier.com/news/18209625.museum-flight-visitor-centre-plan-turned-tree-loss/ I suspect the whole thing was not well thought out but the concern is the state of the significant airframes left outside. I recall there was an appeal against refusal but not sure if that has been decided yet - it was delayed. The issue was not the new building but getting a route for the airframes to it as they were becoming fragile to move !
  8. Ash with apologies for suggesting the obvious but I've done silly things myself before ! Can I suggest that given the relative simplicity of doing the wing extensions that you don't cut off the wing tips first on the kit before doing the proposed extensions? That way if the extensions don't work out you have not wrecked a good model. I know you will have thought of that already and again apologies for reminding you about the obvious !!
  9. I’ve been told that the businesses that are in the solar panel etc energy line are incredibly busy with increased demand. Heating water for central heating and domestic washing is basic to everyone and solar is a decent way of getting the house warm and bodies washed. The latter not always a priority as evidenced at Telford The problem is cost of purchase and it wasn’t so attractive once the grants stopped. A massive hike in electricity prices might change that calculation though. Given we in the UK are looking towards energy security and self provision I think we need to swallow these installation costs possibly by reintroducing incentives to fit this sort of thing. Stick and carrot approach. Lower the price of installation by offsets and increase cost of buying electricity while making sure the vulnerable are not overlooked during transition. Clearly the world is going electric to wean itself off fossil fuels once power generation slows and stops using coal etc to generate. That’s long haul but meantime the UK is in a better position to move on but there will be short term pain while we sort this out over the next decade
  10. Good idea. Can I send you my elderly mother in law
  11. On the matter of being helpful as @One 48 says above car drivers can save a bit by the following tips and I am sure there are more. Empty the boot. Half the time there are a few kilos of crap in there that are getting lugged around and using up petrol (diesel cars are available as are electric ones) Tire pressures - check they are right Drive in a manner that saves fuel - expert advice on that on a good website such as RAC no doubt Air con. uses about 10% of fuel useage if on. We need it at times but maybe not all the time. Get rid of roof boxes unless absolutely needed and last - is that journey really necessary or can it be doubled up with another one later in the week? I bet there are more
  12. Dakota ? In any event it’s all a bit academic when Her Majesty’s Treasury is looking to cost cut. The Sparrows and the BBMF will do well just to survive and keeping costs down while profiles up is their only route to staying off the endangered list. Either that or my £120 million lottery win can keep them afloat. Nurse the medication is wearing off again ………
  13. One of the first easy conversions I did when a boy was to convert the old Revell 1/32 kit back when it first came out to this aircraft. The wing tips were just plastic card laminated pieces carefully cut to shape and sanded to the required profile. the in flight refueling probe was from card an sprue etc. I suspect that would be easier today with the availability of brass refueling probes. It was an easy first time conversion attempt so a good one to start off on if you have not done a conversion before. I hadn't realised that the 1/32 model had its own issues of course and was dead chuffed with the final result.
  14. There is one for sale on that well known auction site. Only £230 as a buy it now. Roll up Roll up the desperate out there
  15. Just remember around the time you will be finishing the Vac model some manufacturer will announce a state of the art injected moulding. It’s Sods 12th law of modelling

Nah, leave ‘em alone and do a bequest to @Mike leaving them to him with a request he does both as a wip on here - revenge from the other side

Best news this year ! As Mike says above don't let the seven week period slide. Oh and if you are tempted to do some modelling stay away from Mach 2 kits - blood pressure and all that you know
  18. I’ve not compared the two so can’t comment directly but if you are willing to go down the route of buying a Revell kit anyway why not do the Revell build while working on the more difficult PCM one using the experience as an opportunity to improve your skill set? If it doesn’t work out then nothing lost as you still have the Revell one.
  19. Hi Steve. Welcome aboard the ship. You have landed in good company. I’m located a few miles south of you in the Borders. Hope you enjoy the modelling and lunacies of the members !
  20. Grumpy - check, - OK Old - check - OK Curmudgeon - check - OK North Lincolnshire
  21. Thanks Mike - its what Ive been told before. It was also pointed out that 90% of my spam comes from gmail addresses. Seemingly gmail are lax about allowing spammers send out loads of the same email to companies etc.
  22. Why do I get an average of 4-5 emails each day from "web designers" all saying they have looked at my business website and they think they can improve on it and get more leads. Something wrong with their eyesight. My business doesn't have a web site - its not the business model I'm told not to respond but am tempted to ask them to have a detailed look and let me have their proposals
  23. That's a lot of pylons and underwing ordnance for a stealthy aircraft methinks maybe??
  24. Still better than mine An expensive case to show off, sorry edit “display” ones models is not a bad thing come to think on it. I suppose in a world where kit prices, sizes and sophistication have increased exponentially as well as effort and build time it makes sense to do fewer kits but give them better display facilities. I recall a shelf lined teenage bedroom with models all round the room collecting dust and the evil eye of my Mum plus duster with me doing a “they shall not pass” rearguard. Days long gone. If I take a year or more to build a 1/32 Lanc it makes sense to do something to keep it safe, clean and on view
  25. Well they did have 1 from good old wiki Försökscentralen (Swedish Test Establishment) at Malmen near Linköping received one Lancaster I (ex-RAF RA805) designated Tp 80 and the SwAF/n 80001. Aircraft was modified by Avro company for jet engine testbed duties and delivered from UK in May 1951. The only Swedish Lancaster crashed in 1956.[6]
