  1. I am brush painting a resin airplane fuselage with Vallejo primer, and then revell aqua acrylic paints. I just finished brushing on my first primer layer. Questions: 1) should I wait for the primer to dry before brushing my second primer layer? Or wait for primer to cure 24 hours before applying second primer coat? 2) similar question: what about waiting between acrylic coats of the same colour? Wait a few hours to dry before applying 2nd coat, or wait a few days to cure before applying 2nd coat? I am unsure if subsequent coats of the same paint will mess with the curing of the earlier coats. I also plan on masking, so I wonder if leaving the masking tape on too long will pull up the paint too? so basically: do we allow acrylic paint to cure for each coat, or each colour (which include multiple coats)?
  2. Hi there, Does anyone have any images or videos (or a detailed description) of how the airplanes fly into and out of LaGuardia Airport within the "Panorama of the City of New York" at the Queens Museum? I've read vague descriptions that it uses wires and pulleys, but I'm having trouble visualising it, and I cannot find any images or videos on google or youtube. The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of designing a diorama of Kowloon City, including Kai Tak Airport, on a 1:400 scale. I want the airplanes to approach, land, taxi, park, and takeoff. I don't think I can adopt Knuffingen Airport's system of rods, since that would require a groove to be cut through the apartment buildings under the flight path. So I think I'm going to have to suspend the planes using fishing lines, which I believe is a system that Knuffingen staff had considered but ultimately rejected. However, I still have a few issues I'm worried about with my system. For example: what if the airplanes swing like pendulums and look unrealistic when they fly? I do have an overhead track system in mind to control the path of the airplane, but I was wondering if I could avoid reinventing the wheel and just see what the New York Panorama did for their LaGuardia airport. That way, I can decide if the New York system suits my needs or not. Are their wires conspicuous, or almost invisible? Do they also show planes taking the Expressway Visual Approach too, and how well do they simulate the airplane's banking? Obviously, I cannot travel to the US now, which is why I'm asking here.
  3. Thanks everyone. I'm worried that applying too many separate gloss coats would add a noticeable thickness, such that decals applied over a gloss coat would appear to hover slightly over the surface, and even cast shadows. Is this a problem in real life? Or is there really no noticeable difference between models with separate gloss coats over matte paint vs models that used gloss paint? I guess since the gloss coat doesn't have a colour, I don't need many coats like I do with pigmented paints?
  4. Hi there. I am painting a resin model airplane with acrylic paints. I am hoping to use gloss paints, so that I don't have to clear coat before applying the decals. I want a clear coat only after the decals are applied. I bought a bunch of Revell Aqua paints. Then I noticed that the "Medium Grey" I bought is matte, not gloss. 1) Can I simply buy some Revell Aqua Clear Gloss and mix it with the Medium Grey matte paint to make it glossy? What exactly is clear gloss anyways, is it just paint binder without the pigments? 2) The Revell website also says most aqua paints can be mixed together, except for luminous colours like "Luminous Red". What's different about these luminous paints, and what would happen if I try to mix the clear gloss with my Luminous Red (which is currently "silk matte")? Thanks
