So what are the differences between the Roden cowling and the AIMS one? That might give us a hint where to look - if real,, presumably between those on the Mk.I and those on the Mk.II? Or is it simply that the kit example is poor, for some reason?
If there are any differences I don't see them, hence the question.

What makes you think there ARE differences?
Because I purchased the AIMS pre-war cowl for Roden kit 🫣
I know, I know...

I can not for the life of me find in words or pictures what are the differences between the pre-war and wartime Gloster Gladiator cowlings.
What am I missing?
TIA,
Vedran

Because first tooling FW's had shape and fit issues. Hellcat has none of those?

With all this battering I highly doubt that PR will ever release a British subject again.
It's a pity, I really wanted the venom.
Oh, I'm sorry, should we buy an incorrect kits galore and sing praises in Swedish?
PS Eduard had similar reactions when they botched the I-16. And the 109's. Twice.
Yet they learned and overcame.

What i am saying is that no model is perfect, ever.

That is true. But I (and the rest, it seems) expect the new releases to be at least accurate in the shapes, if not in all the details. Even Eduard learned this.
I hope that PR learn from this and that the Venom will be as good as it can be.

I love Pilot Replicas, and have multiples of all their current kits, so has nothing to do with bashing the company I hope will thrive, but the kit has numerous glaring issues that I simply cannot understand how one can defend.
^This. I have the Tunnans and J-21 and am eagerly avaiting the Austrian SAAB 105, but this Vampire is a serious letdown.

I am sure that they have done their best.
Who of us has ever made a perfect model?
Andy
Surely you jest.
I'll also do my best, I offer 10 Euros max for the kit. Who of us has 50+ they demand?

Afraid not.
And fixing it will be difficult. Thinning the wing on the inside surfaces will affect the mating to the fuselage, tail booms and air intake.
Re-profiling the leading edge is a lot of work but may be doable.I don't know. At the kit's price point, I wonder if a conversion set for Airfix would be easier or even more economic route.

So the kit photos didn't lie? Surprise, surprise, surprise.

Well, these small detail errors don't bother me very much, most are not that hard to fix if one wants to.
I'm going to get more then one and be happy building them.Except the errors are neither small or concerning details.

There is some positivity, Red Dot, this thread saved me 50+ euros.

I have learned a lot about modelling aircraft in 3D from Terrance at RC CAD 2vR. He presents a series of tutorials on how to draw and build and aircraft that are easy to understand. I can pause the tutorial to have a practice myself and then continue watching.
cheers,
MikeThank you. Just what I needed.

There is a third way. If a paper model exists, rescale and cut your own from styrene sheet.

Fishy?
Suspect. It smells 😉 The leading edges look too blunt.

Could be the lighting, but something is fishy with that wing leading edge.

As it might not be common (school) knowledge, performing such a comparison requires generating a true reference pane to even be able to start it.
Something that did not happen here (amongst other things).
Just look at the engine pylons on the built Academy kit and then at the photo of the real thing. You can't unsee it, it's so much off in the angle and it's thicc. All about bass kind of thicc.

If the Academy kit has a 'very pronounced' shortcoming that's also a 'huge shape and position error', I find it odd - to say the least - that no-one at all has either noticed it or mentioned it thus far!
It was noticed and it was mentioned. Do you want the pic in the pm? I'm not abou to kill someone's joy in the topic 😇

Tom, buying aftermarket decals with Trumpyboss kits is almost a must for the "serious" modeller, as 9 times out of 10 there are problems with shapes, size and/or colours.
Now some don't care as is their right, but if I work 20+ hours on something I want it to be right. Some manufacturers give you a chance to do it OOB, some don't.
It is a personal choice, and on this matter I vote with my wallet.

That looks like M-71 engined version. Ark kit is the later M-82.

Vector also makes the superb wheelbays.
Metallic Details has the cowls&engines too.
