Welcome and I have a bother half too.
-
IIRC it was reduced as it originally didn't include shipping

ANd no warning at the checkout .....
-
Tried a low value ebay item from China - no VAT added in the checkout, so a potential £8 fee from the post office + the VAT (no I did not buy).

I doubt Norway had any part in the ebay decided to slap a sales tax on a private seller's first sale to Norway.
-
The payment might go to the seller, but how do you avoid checking out via ebay? I assume the tax was added to the buyer's invoice when he checked out and as far as I was concerned it did not make any difference to the amount I received. Note, this is for a private sale I have no idea how ebay will handle business sellers.

Thanks, the Buffalo struck a chord with me. the backstory of it's recovery looks like a lot of shady dealing was involved. I fouund a walkround on youtub, it's in remarkable condition after 50 years at the bottom of a lake.

It was automatically added to the buyers costs so no option not to pay. Cost of item £10.00 Postage £3.50 Tax £3.38 Purchase total £16.88 Fee -£0.87 Tax collected by eBay - £3.38 Total £12.63 Buyer paid £16.88, I received £12.63

As a private seller I sold something to an ebayer in Norway for £16.50 who had £3.88 in tax added. What I happens to identify the consignment as tax paid, which could result in a delivery company also trying to collect the tax as well.
