  1. A little update on this one. This weekend we just had the first Australian Model Expo since the beginning of the pandemic. This was my first opportunity to show my models in public and compete. And the new is...the Gearing got first prize in the large scale/ powered ships category, and "best of brand" for Dragon!
  2. Good rendition of an unusual subject. I am more familiar with the Bubbletops the Brazilian Air Force flew in the Italian campaign. Where did you get the decals?
  3. You got a great result here. Inhale one in the stash but keep postponing given the bad reputation with fuselage warping. How did you find that part of the build? And how did you overcome the fit issues?
  4. Congratulations on the model and the photos. Really top quality.
  5. Thank you. Interesting comparison of the hull shape
  6. Fantastic. Any chance you can post a side by side view comparing the Hood and Bismarck models?
  7. With the hurry of finishing this, I forgot to let you know: yes, I did manage to reattach the crane jib the right way! (pictures above). Thanks for saving me from the embarrassment...
  8. Thanks for the link. It is a superb model. But all those stencils! There is white writing even on top the "star and stripes"! Phantoms must have been the peak of the stencil madness.
  9. The link works, but it would be better to have the picture visible here. Particularly for such lovely model, really great plane and you made it justice. How did you find dealing with the Mach 2 model? They have a reputation of being difficult.
  10. Congratulations, I have a Harrier in my wish list and when I finally get to it I hope it will look as good as this.
  11. Thank you once again. From the pictures I found, it looks like white well and red brakes are the way to go. BTW, the decal set I got is for the "deep bunny", from the shape of the rabbit head. Meaning no need to include the AN/ALQ-126 antennae on the intakes. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/furball-aero-design-48-061-black-bunny--1082892
  12. Thanks again. the Furball decals seem to be like you describe (real text, when you look with a magnifier). Since I have your attention, just another question where my research drew a blank. Do you (or anyone in this forum) know whether or not the VX-4 Phantoms kept the usual Navy insignia red interior for the underwing speed brakes and their wells? I can only find photos of models, and these can be white for both surfaces, red on both surfaces, or red on the inner brake and white for in well...
  13. This is excellent, thanks for sharing. I am looking for one to build, but these are harder to find than hen's teeth. I am hoping that Airfix will release it again, perhaps with a new tool like they did with the Buccaneer.
  14. Dear all Thanks for the replies, which collectively make things much clearer for me. The decals I have are indeed for 3783, so it looks like the white stencils are justified, as can be seen in this photo: I still think the decals appear too obvious in comparison, so will try to make them subtler with some kind of thinned paint layer, to be tested underneath first!
  15. I have my eyes on a Hasegawa P-3C, but they are out of production, so the prices on eBay are ridiculous (hundreds of dollars for one in good condition). It is in my wish list. I hope Hasegawa releases it again.
  16. Yes, I decided not to go too hard on the weathering, since this was peacetime Navy. All the photos I found show rather clean planes.
  17. I have already looked, but it does seem that there is any 1/72 kit of the Poseidon.
  18. Maybe I should build an Orion then, and take another group photo...
  19. Did you have a chance to go inside? That observer station overhanging the clear nose - best office view in the world!
  20. I had the choice of 1/700 forced on me by the lack of shelf space, but have not regretted it. For as long as my eyes can do it, I will stick to it as I think the challenge of making something this small look real is worth it.
  21. Thanks, Jon. This is precisely the type of guidance I need. I am a slow builder, so maybe it will take a while, but I hope to make this a good one.
