That's a cracking job Pat, very elegant looking aircraft the Cant. I was away at the weekend and had some connectivity issues, finally managed to update the list. Just one more needed to make it into the bunfight, it could be you, YES YOU SIR/MADAM! Come and join us. Any subject from any country that has a coastline from Spain to Greece, as well as Portugal, Malta, Albania or Cyprus is eligible. When else are you going to build that model of that Portuguese fishing smack, anything from the Spanish Civil War, a recreation of Toulon harbour after the ships had been scuttled, a Knights Templar, any Italian sports car, an Akrotiri based Wessex, a scale model of King Zog... ...you get the picture, any subject from any time from any country that has a coastline in southern Europe. The possibilities are endless!

Certainly! Thanks for signing up. One more needed to get into the bunfight but more names welcome. Come and join us.

Yes it was, all GA.11 and PR.11 versions had the later wing initially introduced on the F.6

The IIIC is my least favourite version and the schemes on offer are a big yawn for me, fortunately I have plenty of decals for Adl'A machines to not worry about it. You and me are singing from the same hymn sheet on that Martin. The panel lines are looking good, I'm also really very pleased they avoided the temptation to cover it in divots, panel lines exist on real aircraft, massive divots where rivets go don't, in fact the holes one of the Riggers were plugging with rivets on an aircraft at work today wouldn't even show up in that scale. I'm very pleased with what I see, can I have mine now please?

Special Hobby/Revell/Italeri 1/72nd Douglas Invader Questions
Wez replied to Wez's topic in Aircraft Cold War
My understanding is that the kit was tooled by Special Hobby and then released by both Italeri and Revell. Thanks for the tip on the dihedral. Good tip, thanks Martin -
I'm putting this in the Cold War section because frankly, let's admit it, the Douglas Invader saw more service during the Cold War period than it ever did during WWII. I seem to recall the Special Hobby/Revell/Italeri kit has some faults but IIRC, these faults may or may not apply depending on which version of the kit you're making so can somebody give me the low-down on the kit's faults, I can then decide whether I want to do anything about them. Ideally I'm looking to make a B-26B/C version (rather than the K but I might be persuaded otherwise), so I'm looking at both glass and solid nose versions. Thanks in advance for any help.

Nice choice Steve, thanks for signing up. Another great choice, thanks to you too. I must say Greek choices are proving popular, this is excellent news!

Good man! Only, it won't be punishment, it'll be a delight! Thanks for signing up. Just the very thing! Thanks to you for signing up. Thanks for the rabble rousing Pat, yes I had hoped this would be more popular, plenty of people signed up for the Italian GB and lots of people are interested in the SCW. Come on folks! Any subject from any country that has a coastline from Spain to Greece, as well as Portugal, Malta, Albania or Cyprus is eligible. Surely you can find something that fits in here?

That polished metal scheme really highlights the oil canning of the stressed skin. Thanks for sharing.

I believe those are the markings of the Leuchars TFF, Binbrook's TFF used markings similar (but not exactly the same as), the LTF markings.

Thanks for sharing and you're right about the Cougar, a very attractive aircraft indeed. The Hasegawa kit is still a very serviceable kit, shame there's next to no decent aftermarket decals for the kit, there's plenty of attractive colour schemes for in-service units.

Falklands GB 2022 Chat
Wez replied to Enzo the Magnificent's topic in Falklands War 40th Anniversary GB
Obllox! I quite forgot about this one, time to raid the stash a d find some stickers! -
Because the way it works in the British system is that a mark change is associated with a major change in performance/capability. A mark change could occur when an internal equipment upgrade has occurred which changes how the aircraft is used or its effectiveness in its current role, it may have no impact upon the external appearance of the aircraft. A change like the windscreen is a modification, it doesn't really alter the fundamentals of the aircraft, it's just an improvement, hence no mark change.

I wouldn't know about any of that, the back story is from my own fevered imagination, not based on fact, that's why its a What-If? Hopefully I'll get some bench time this week and pick it back up again but not tonight unfortunately.

Chris, Thanks for the clarification, to be fair the photo in the books isn't the biggest and in one of them it's quite grainy, I'd love to see a close-up of this aircraft.

Judging by the pictures in The Hawker Typhoon and Tempest by Francis K Mason on p.149 and The Typhoon and Tempest Story by @Chris Thomas on p.168, both of which show the same picture of SN330 either on take off and landing. The view is pretty much in profile, I'm going with the Rotol spinner. Chris has said that many SN serialled machines had the Rotol prop fitted.

1/72 Hawker Tempest Mk. V by Airfix - release Autumn 2021
Wez replied to Bjorn's topic in The Rumourmonger
You're correct, they did, my point was whether the five spoke wheels in the kit are actually wrong or is it our perception that the real wheels were much smaller. Now I want to know whether it's the five spoke wheels that are wrong or the four spoke, thanks to David @David A Collins, who has taken the time to measure the Airfix hubs I now have something to compare to on the plans I have. -

Thanks for taking the time to look into this, I'll dig out some plans to see which are the errant wheels. -
The unframed canopy wasn't a post-war modification, it was a feature of the SB2C-5. I believe that whilst the first SB2C-5's were produced before the war's end they didn't get deployed before it. AFAIK, only the French used the -5 in actual combat in north Africa and particularly Indochina. Another feature of the -5 was an extended bomb bay.
