  1. Hi all, I'm about to use an airbrush for the first time on a 1:48 Spit mk 1 using thinned Tamiya acrylics. At the moment it's covered in white primer from a rattle can. I know sky is the first colour that should go down as it's the lightest but would you recommend a base coat first and if so what colour would you choose? Thanks, WB
  2. Thanks all, That's exactly what I was looking for. Sorry for the simplistic questions.
  3. Thanks bmwh548, I haven't used it yet but I'll mainly be using Tamiya acrylics thinned with X20A.
  4. Hi all, Just got my new gravity feed airbrush and compressor and have a few questions regarding cleaning. I've read how to clean the AB at the end of a session and that seems fairly straightforward. What I'm wondering is say I've just put down a coat on the model and I'm waiting for that to dry. Can I just wait for that to dry and then carry on putting down the next coat? Or will the paint in my AB go hard while I'm waiting? Do I have to do anything ie cleaning to the AB between coats? I'm sorry for the probably stupid questions I'm asking. There'll probably be a few more. Any advice gratefully received, WB
  5. Thanks guys. Well I thinks it's pretty unequivocal. Gravity it is.
  6. Hi all, Does anyone have any views on what is best, a gravity feed or siphon feed from a jar? Thanks, WB
  7. Hi gents, I was wondering if any of you have any experience with Bartsharp Airbrush. I'm thinking of buying one of either their AC02 or AC03 compressors. https://bartsharpairbrush.co.uk/product/airbrush-compressor-ac02-bartsharp-airbrush/ https://bartsharpairbrush.co.uk/product/airbrush-compressor-ac03-bartsharp-airbrush/ Any views? Thanks, WB
  8. Sorry Greg. I'm more familiar with the layout now, shouldn't happen again. And thanks for all the advice guys, much appreciated.
  9. Lol. Thanks alt, I knew there must be a more appropriate section for my query but couldn't find it anywhere. Now I know. I'll probably be nagging you all for advice on there soon. Thanks.
  10. Thanks for the advice guys, it's pretty much what I expected. Truth is cash is not really a problem but I have a terminal illness and didn't want to splash out on something that I probably won't be using for that long. My wife bought me this for xmas https://www.amazon.co.uk/Timbertech®-ABPST01-Airbrush-Adapter-Nozzles-Needles/dp/B00K78M09E/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=timbertech+abpst01&qid=1609107304&sr=8-1 without realising that they're not much use without a compressor bless her. I was just wondering if I could get away with a cheap compressor but seems not. Anyway we've just spoken and she'd like to use the airbrush for her crafts as well so I don't feel so guilty now. I'll get an AS 186 with tank for about £80-90. Thanks all. ps Any views on the airbrush she has got me?
  11. Hi guys, As someone who has never airbrushed before I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using this type of kit https://www.amazon.co.uk/KKmoon-Airbrush-Compressor-Painting-Manicure-TC-100/dp/B07B4VSXHS/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 or others similar, usually around the £40-50 range. Obviously I know you get what you pay for but would you recommend this type for someone on a budget? I'm more interested in the compressor rather than the airbrush. Any advice gratefully received, WB
  12. Many thanks for the advice guys. Cheers.
  13. Hi guys, quick question. If I use Vallejo gloss acrylic varnish on my model and then want a matt finish is it ok to just use Vallejo matt acrylic varnish on top? Or do I have to use an enamel varnish? Any help greatly appreciated, WB
  14. Thanks mate. Now I just have to worry about using PE parts. Never experienced them before. Cheers
  15. Hi gents, I'm after a bit of advice, especially from anyone who's made Tamiya's fantastic new 1:48 Spit Mk 1. Step 1 of the instructions requires you to drill two holes through the right hand engine cowling but for the life of me I can't find anywhere in the instructions where these holes are used. I've recently returned to modelling after 30 odd years so obviously not an experienced modeller and this may well be a stupid question. Does anyone have any idea what these holes are for? I don't really want to drill holes if there's no need to. Thanks, WB

    Hi all

Hi all, New member from Neath, South Wales. Returned to modelling for the first time since the Eighties, when I used to do Airfix 1:72 aircraft and Tamiya 1:35 AFVs. Difference is I no longer need to ask my mother if I could spend my paper round money on another kit. At the moment I'm building a Tamiya 1:48 Mosquito FB and enjoying it, that is until I tried fitting the cockpit in and couldn't get the fuselage halves to fit properly. Which is why I joined really though I finally managed it after much sanding. I'm sure I'll have some more questions to ask and this looks like the place to do it as I'm very impressed with some of the kits you guys have made along with your knowledge of the subject in general.
