  1. Superb, thanks guys. just gathering supplies, I see there’s a GA metal accessory kit, but not sure I can bring myself to drop £200 odd on this... on paint, any thoughts on colours I need? I’m thinking Tamiya TS 14 black and TS 89 Pearl blue for the interior? for engine block colours and others, any thoughts on what I need? I’ve been brush painting engines with the Revel enamels, I have steel, aluminium and silver, am I missing a gold, copper or brass? also any other extra ‘things’ I should consider getting (got microset and sol already). lastly and a bit off topic, what glue have you all been using, I like using CA but the hazing it causes is a nightmare, I have Tamiya Extra thin but to be honest I get a little frustrated at its slow grip time and it also doesn’t appear to be very strong (also I’ve found it doesn’t work over painted surfaces...)
  2. Oh wow, I mean I’m never spending that cash, I was chuffed to get the revell e-type 1/8 for under £100, seems £300 is the going rate these days. I took a look at that Citroen 1/8 model sadly not one for me, I only really like building what I call, the classic pretty cars, (queue booing) but sadly my wife would not appreciate anything that isn’t a v pretty car. Beauty all in the eye of the beholder of course! Can swing the GT40 as it’s such a classic, I’d love to do a DB5 and maybe a classic Porsche or maybe a classic Ferrari Maybe a merc gullwing but such a shame these 1/8 models are so rare, can’t see quite why, they are great to build and look amazing when complete a serious museum statement piece. if anyone stumbles on any other great 1/8 models do drop me a message
  3. Maybe yes, it’s still in the post so will get some pics up, interesting to see if magnifier have amended the trumpeter kit at all. I’m not going to do much in custom stuff just build as is, I admire the madness that some put into engine detail, but as my models sit on my shelf and never get opened up, I’ve realised it’s perhaps not worth spending quite so much time on daft detail, gonna try improve my paint finish
  4. That Entex Porsche looks awesome , out of interest how much and where did you find this kit? Seems to basically not exist online!?
  5. Thanks all! My first build since I was a lad and working on a classic Airfix spitfire! More recently I made an Amati America’s cup boat (plank on wood) so a very different medium, but just getting back to it. Only major downside to this kit was the horrribly painful paint sanding and dealing with joining such a big shell together to get a seamless join, also the doors are rubbish and are a real pain to get a passable fit. On the leather, it’s real leather. On eBay bought 1mm thick real leather and then used a leather razor blade (Mini plane) to scrape it a little thinner, then simply applied double sided tape to the reverse and stuck down, it moulded super well to the supplied plastic seats. ‘Carpet’ is simply sticky back felt, also used a lot and I mean a lot of bare metal foil, it’s wonderful stuff, not cheap but incredibly effective, also the chrome pen (I forget the name) is just amazing onto the next one -Trumpeter GT40. Have set up another post on this one, any build logs/advice you have on this one hugely appreciated.
  6. Ok so after finishing the enormous 1/8 Jaguar e-type, I’m on to my next big(ish) model the Gt40 that’s just been re-released by magnifier (who!?) it appears to be juts a re-boxed trumpeter model, and it can currently be had for around £90 which seems pretty good value to me. Does anyone have any great build logs I can follow? Also if anyone is interested, one of the very original prototype cars (1 of 5) is up for auction currently - https://coolmaterial.com/rides/original-ford-gt40-prototype/. Rather nice in the white with a deep deep blue interior. Sadly I don’t have an airbrush so it’s good ol rattle can and brush for me, for anyone out there that has painted this one before what colours do I need? (planing on doing it as per kit in black with silver stripes, so guessing a Gloss Black, and apparently a very deep blue semi Gloss for interior chassis? A red for the hook things at the front, then I guess an aluminium, chrome and what appears to be a gold on the engine? I normally use Tamiya spray, but maybe as it’s basic black gloss I could consider a regular car spray rattle can? Any thoughts hugely welcome oh lastly if anyone has any killer 1/8 models I should look at do let me know, I can’t find any, they seem to be crazy rare....
  7. Finally finished this huge kit. Managed to get it on ebay for £105 after the previous owner had started the engine and elements of bodywork, took it all apart and started again. Used https://www.finemodelcars.info/ and the amazing work of Karsten Schmidt as a guide, who I think specialises in these models professionally. Made it pretty much to kit with the exception of joining the body shells to avoid some awful panel gaps, added real leather to seats, real carpet to interior, added some additional engine detail and added some decals to engine bay too. Also used a tonne of Bare metal foil on the window and body trims. Was really quite a tough kit, sadly some parts just don't fit well, mainly the doors. But try finding a decent 1/8 scale model of well....anything! It seems the kits go for silly money un-started, so was pretty chuffed to get it for around the £100 mark. If anyone else knows some great 1/8 scale cars do let me know, they seem super rare, but I much pretty the large scale. Have been eyeing up a Tamiya Caterham or maybe the Trumpeter GT40, though really looking for classic very pretty cars, a dino, classic porsche or similar. Let me knwo your thoughts!
