  1. Hi @Col Walter E Kurtz are there any tutorials online for this technique that you mention please? Nice Mosquito @RaisingArizona
  2. Good evening. After posting a load of rapid fire pictures in the work in progress area and having received some feedback, I've been away and bodged a simple display box to produce some new pictures of the Hurricane. I played around a little bit with a desktop light I have too. Anyway, the old girl is by no means perfect but was good to practice free hand airbrushing camo and masking off the small parts of the canopy and windscreen (very fiddly at this scale) producing an ok finish. Happily no paint leakage underneath. The plan is to mount her on a plinth in a flying configuration in the near future. I will upload once done.
  3. Yeah I know, sorry for the haste. Been WIP progress for a long time, just haven't had the time to do uploads and posts really. Either way, it's attracted a little bit of interest and feedback which is great. I will take a look at your suggestions. Never heard of Arma kits. What do you mean by ID 'light' please?
  4. @Troy SmithThank you for your feedback which I am greatful for and will always accept. The white spinner is in line with the kit's instructions. I'm still a novice at this and would benefit more from doing more research but I'm still trying to get my head around the most efficient way to build kits, including using my airbrush and all its intracacies and nuances with different brand paints etc. I do have some oil paints and white spirit and have watched a few videos recently with tutorials on their use. Only problem is, they're not clear on whether they're applying the oil paints as washes on gloss, matt gloss or straight onto acrylic paint. Thanks for the pictures, they're useful for any future builds. There is an image here of a white nosed hurrince https://modelwork.pl/topic/19611-hawker-hurricane-iic-336sq-172-revell/ just out of interest.
  5. Well, the old girl is finished. Need to work on my photography skills a bit and next time i'll work on some exhaust streaking too. Next up is a reboxed, old tool F-14A Tomcat. The Hurricane is going to be mounted on a plinth in a flying configuration, will work on that next time I'm home.
  6. Post clear gloss coat using Humbrol Clear Varnish and during panel line was using Tamiya black panel line accent colour. Excess removed after approximately 10 mins using cotton bud and white spirit. Dipped in white spirit then rolled on kitchen paper before wiping away excess and spots where accent colour brush touched the model's surface. Prop and spinner now fitted. Gun barrels painted. Top layer of matt gloss applied, just waiting for it to dry a bit before applying to lower surfaces.
  7. So, the sand colour was airbrushed on with the pattern masked off. I then free handed the dark earth over the primer and upto the sand. I was really happy with the blended finish I achieved between the two colours. Arguably not the best camo pattern ever but it's all about getting better right? Engine exhausts were brush painted using Tamiya X-10 Gun Metal.
  8. Main fuselage and other components primed using Vallejo Surface Primer black thinned with Tamiya X-20A and a touch of Vallejo airbrush flow improver.
  9. What gauge/diameter wire would be suitable for 1:72, 1:48 scale modelling please chaps and chapesses? Seen this on Amazon: Any advice, recommendations would be appreciated please. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pieces-Tarnish-Resistant-Jewelry-Beading/dp/B01N9TQBC3/ref=sr_1_21?adgrpid=56097021547&dchild=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxK66h7_57gIVQtPtCh3oCAsoEAAYASAAEgLiQvD_BwE&hvadid=259053904548&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=20339&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=14974441047728211110&hvtargid=kwd-362725501602&hydadcr=18485_1816607&keywords=modelling+copper+wire&qid=1613859498&sr=8-21&tag=googhydr-21
  10. Your photos and most of all your models are excellent. Well done. Please may I ask where you purchased those model stands from/what/how have you made them? Regards Martin
  11. That ejection seats looks fantastic. In my opinion, in comparison to my early endeavours so far in the modelling game, you're setting the standard there! It took me a while to fathom the acronyms you were using too, but figured them out in the end 😳 I've got a Jaguar GR3 my missus bought me as a gift, the italeri one with the cat paint scheme (admittedly I will be building it in 41(F) Sqn Snow cat scheme) and wondered if you could advise where best I might source extra detailing for the cockpit, instrument panels etc please? I've had a quick google but don't want to pay out without some advice and more reading on here first. Thanks, Freddie.
  12. Well, I managed to get the console decals to conform a bit more, and applied a spot of dry brushing with the aim to bring out the parcel shelf avionics a bit more: Whilst waiting for the cockpit and fuselage attachment to dry I knocked up the drop tanks. I've prepped a few other bits too. Got the main wheels glued and nose wheels sanded down. They were moulded offset. Managed to get the wings, tail fins, nose cone (not pictured) and fuselage glued this evening. Currently setting. Perhaps get to priming stage tomorrow but see how the bonding process goes, may need some filler. Never sure sometimes whether the wing gaps are to be used as panel lines or whether to fill and sand to appear as no joint. Managed to sand the joint at the nose. The line is visible but the surface is smooth so hopefully will be hidden once primed and painted.
  13. This is my next project: This is my first model were the panel lines are raised. I'm not going to be re-scribing them: 1 - Because I don't want to and 2 - because I don't have a small razor saw to scribe the lines with. I have bought a scribing tool but can't seem to get on with it. I've watched a few videos on Youtube about weathering and I'm thinking of giving the thinned oil wash a go like this here: https://youtu.be/FXerpuOthXk (7:30) So far I have removed parts from the sprue and sanded them down, assembled the cockpit, primed, painted, glossed and decaled the consoles. I used tamiya masking tape folded on itself and painted in sand yellow matt 361 16 and a bit of foil for the buckle. From this image, you can see that more Microsol is required to help the decal conform to the switches and buttons on the consoles. I'll report back.
  14. Hi all, I've been working on this project for approximately 4 months now and have finally gotten round to finishing her off. Started back in October 20 and have had a 2 month deployment sandwiched in-between. Throughout the decalling process I noticed there were not enough 'NO STEP' decals so the drop tank fins haven't been marked up after all the fuselage decals were placed. I also need to work on my abilities not to snap off pylons, to that end, the model has to be displayed with the wings swept forward. I went with that position due to displaying the model with the airbrakes and AAR probe extended too. This is my first post so bear with me...
  15. Hi everyone! I’ve been building the Italeri Tornado IDS/GR4 1/48 scale and during the decalling process made a mistake by following the decal sheet verbatim. Anyway, do your research I suppose is the lesson learned here. So I thought I’d share this website http://www.grubbyfingersshop.com/walkaround_galleries/Panavia Tornado GR.4 Walkaround ZG771 RAF Nth Ireland 2017/content/Panavia Tornado GR.4 ZG771 RAF Nth Ireland 2017 071 GraemeMolineux_large.html where I’ve found some very good photos for those seeking that extra bit of detail for their Tornado GR4 models RAF variant. I’ve gone for the 31 Sqn option within the decal set.
  16. Nice detail on the inside of the engine exhaust!
