  1. I had the same problem when first using liquid mask.. I bought some silicone brushes the type I believe they use in nail art.. a pack of 5 different sizes for a couple of £.. They work great and once the mask is dry it just peels of the brush.....
  2. Thank you guys really appreciate the comments... Luckily the broken parts aren't to noticeable.. It was mainly the front indicators if you look you'll see they don't sit straight after regluing.. And most if the other mess I was able to buff and polish out to a point where you need to look for them but they are still there.. And tbh I never actually noticed the Honda decal damage myself lol... I don't know when that happened as it didn't happen when I applied it and it has a coat of clear over it... Strange I'll have to take another look at it... No this is the same pic... Don't know why its like that on the other one... Very strange lol
  3. Well it's finally finished... And I have to say i won't be attempting anything like this again until I have ma little more than 5 months modelling experience under my belt.... Everything was going well until the body work then everything that could go wrong did go wrong... Bad decal lay down finger prints glue spills broken parts etc... Anyway it's all done now and all in all I'm not to displeased with it... At least the lines match close enough thank you again for the help and words of encouragement...
  4. Finally plucked up the courage to attempt the decals... Went better than expected but not as well as I would have liked....especially the tail piece it's way out and the top piece is lop sided.. Never realised until it was to late was trying to lay down the sides and by the time I noticed it had adhered in parts so as I tried to got my brush and micro sol behind it, it started to rip... Learnt a lot from this tho from both doing it and from the invaluable advice I got... Some of which it may seem that I ignored but I didn't... I was just worried about making further mistakes by trying to correct previous ones if that makes sense?..coat of clear coat to follow and then the ultimate test to see how far out my lines are... Thanks again to everyone...
  5. I'm actually using vallejo paints but tamiya clear coat mixed with Mr colour levelling thinner.... Did try vellejo clear coats but had nothing but issues with them...
  6. Thank you very much... I will try and correct it.... I'm assuming I can spray over the clear coat without any trouble?
  7. No to be fair you are completely right about the shade of blue... I don't use tamiya paints and according to a conversion chart this was the closest match... I'm far to early in the hobby(2 and a half models in) to try mixing my own colours/shades.... It didn't look to far out until the darker blue went up against it... But no i totally respect what you are saying and you are right it's way off the shade it should be.... And again you are right about the blue on the tail section... But to be honest it was intentional as my line of thinking was I'd rather cover blue with decals than have white showing... I didn't realise it would show through the decals tbh.... Another lesson learnt in my journey thank you again for the comments they are appreciated as are all comments no matter the content I asked for advice etc so will take no comments as criticism just people trying to help me along my way
  8. @Rick Brown thank you for the advice on the decals.. Its one part I'm pretty sure will go terribly wrong... I have micro set and micro sol on hand.. As I've found them to work just fine for me.. All be it on far smaller and simpler decals.. Well I guess time will tell... Good luck with your build
  9. Well final pieces painted and clear coated... Just need to wait for them to dry add the decals(which I'm really not looking forward too and believe will be far the hardest part) and then put them on the bike to see how well or indeed unwell everything lines up...
  10. Thanks I will try an x wing or y wing.... Its only really to get some weathering experience... Any hints or tips on weathering these kind of models greatly appreciated.
  11. Thanks guys... And I presume they are generally 1/72 scale? The likes of the x wing and y wing.. I may invest in one and give it a shot..
  12. Hope someone can help... Once I finish my current motorcycle build I'd like to try something different.. So as a star wars fan I thought why not... So my question what is the standard scale size of a alstar wars model or if that's too diverse what's a good size to build? Thanks in advance
  13. No it was a valid question... Like I say I'm here for help because I'm out my depth and just winging it... But if what I've said makes sense to you now then I know I'm on the right track and not made a grave error
  14. The only colour on the tail is dark blue.. The rest is decals other than I white strip along the bottom edge.. There's more area exposed than needs to be for the blue.... But I'm working on the assumption that as long as the parts the decals don't cover are blue then the excess blue will be covered by the decals... If that makes sense?
  15. OK so I've started the masking if anyone could cast their over it and see if I'm on the right line.. Especially the rear piece as I couldn't figure out where to mask I'm hoping that when I've sprayed this blue the decals will cover the parts it should and just leave the white along the bottom edge... Thanks.. Oh I know the yellow tape around the tank isn't straight but there is a piece of white curve tape underneath...
  16. Thank you all for the advice and words of encouragement... I think I'll set it aside for a few days and then come back at it with a fresh mind set... And I will see where I'm at then... Just applying the decals to the white base sounds like a good idea if all else fails.... Thanks again.. Will post pics of what the outcome is once I've tackled it..
  17. Not to worried about the spraying aspect my airbrush is quiet forgiving for me... It just seems the instructions on the various colours needed.. And which is actually paint and which is decals seems very vague its more a case of I can't get to grips with where to start..
  18. OK so for my third ever model I decided I was compitent enough to up my game.... How wrong was I.. So after weeks of patience and more patience I managed to get to this point... But have now realised I'm punching way above my weight and have no hope of being able to paint the colour scheme on the body work or indeed fit the large decals.. Has anyone ever scraped a build due ro them being out of their depth... Or is it a case of shelving it and coming back to it at another time?... If any one has built the vfr750r and has any advice on the body work I'd appreciate it... Don't like half finished projects but don't want to mess up the whole thing by bodging the body work.
  19. There isn't no tbh as not much progress has been made it seems like it might be a bit out of my comfort zone... I have a few pics of things I've done I may post them as a wip who knows As for the gs screen it was a lot of hassle and time to have a replacement screen sent from China.... So I glued the original and sprayed it matt black and its now a smoked/tinted screen for all intense and purposes lol
  20. Thank you Alan... I tried a different camera.. This is probably closer to its actual boldness of colour..
  21. To be honest it's not actually as bold and bright as it looks in the pics... My camera has enhanced the colours for some reason..I actually thought the same as you when I looked at the pics damn that's a bit bright and over done lol.. I appreciate your comments thank you and I have toned it down a little on your advice
  22. OK so not only my first attempt at using tamiya weathering powders but my first attempt at weathering full stop... Not sure if I've under done it or over done it... But all in all I think I'm happy with how it looks... Practice makes perfect.. Any hints tips or advice in weathering appreciated..
  23. Thanks for the tips guys... Like I say I'm a complete noob to modelling let alone the weathering side of it... I will try all suggestions on upcoming models and see what works best for me.... The reason I chose powders was it looked the most idiot proof for a beginner like me... Still mastering block spraying with an airbrush so didn't wanna try weathering with one... And to be honest never been thought about just brush painting them...
