  1. That's interesting. I've managed to turn up a few pics of such planes and the tank mountings look sturdier, you'd have thought they would need to be to take the weight of a full tank. Still, who knows what the erks (or their American cousins) managed to bodge up in theatre? Likewise they look kind of flimsy for carrying bomb, and I don't see anything that looks like a mechanical release. Bit of a mystery.

    Model Shops UK

I've recently moved to the Newark, Notts area and find myself spoiled with not one but two LMS's, the one at the Air Museum that I've visited a few times, also Access Models in the town itself, I nipped in last weekend and they have some nice stock at decent prices (must... not... buy... more kits) and the guys who run it are really friendly.
  3. Thanks all. I suspected they were for bombs. AFAIK apart from late marque Seafires only IX's and XVI's ever carried rockets (and not many at that), it's well documented that Spitfires carried beer kegs but that was RAF IX's, here we're looking at a Vc (Trop) in early 1944. I wondered if they would carry US ordnance rather than British bombs @alt-92, it being a USAAF Spit? Or was there even any difference?
  4. I don't mind at all Mark, quite the opposite in fact. Nothing like sharing the love. If anyone has a spare saline/maritime/canine kit they would like to give someone else to build for the GB, this is the place to put it.
  5. Day 21 roundup... Can we really be three weeks in already? And also on the second chat page? Quick update tonight because I'm just in from a belter of a Chinese and I'd like a quick tinker with my Seafire before I turn in (no, @Bertie McBoatface, that is not a euphemism.) Couple more turned blue and excellent additions to the gallery today, namely @Touvdal's Wildcat (first Sea Dog to turn in two completed builds, I salute you sir!) and @Louise's elegant and unusual blue early Seafire. Just the one new build to add, @danbuoy's fleet of Matchbox 1/700 warships grows from three to four with his Narvik class destroyer. Going into the third weekend of the GB we stand at: 147 builds 104 underway 10 finished Have a great weekend of modelling and whatever else you're up to shipmates. Cheers Tony
  6. Lovely result, and I do like those unusual markings.
  7. Well the bluey looks like a million dollars. I hope you manage to get the other sorted out. FWIW I just brush paint Klear on and it seems to do the trick.
  8. ..and if so, what kind of bombs would they carry? Thanks Tony
  9. Day 20 roundup... Tonight's quick update... after the initial frenzy of activity the maintenance of the Build List has become much more "manageable", though I believe there has been only one day since launch that at least one new WIP hasn't found its way onto the list. Today @PeterB has added to his existing two builds a rather nice looking Cougar, and it looks like another Kriegsfischkutter will be along shortly, as well as @Lifeline's (probable) Sea Cobra, which is a purposeful looking machine and no mistake. Keep 'em coming, shipmates! Today's numbers: 146 builds 104 underway 8 finished Cheers Tony
  10. From here Skegness would be the obvious destination. Where's your nearest offshore windfarm?
  11. Nope. Plenty room on this ship. Welcome aboard!
  12. That’s what I’m talking about!
  13. Day 19 roundup... First in a couple of days because of "real life" duties (vastly overrated if you ask me). There's a steady flow of new WIPs boarding HMS Salty Sea Dog, todays being a Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 (you wait for ages and then two turn up at once) - welcome aboard @Zack - and following the completion of his remarkable little Kriegsfischkutter, along comes a third build from the man who, frankly, is making the rest of us look bad, Mr Jon @Faraway with his Admiral Class minesweeper. Today's numbers: 145 builds 103 underway 8 finished The chat thread is now galloping towards its 40th page, after which it will reach the end of its natural life and a second chat thread will be begin. I understand this is quite unusual, however the fact that after only a couple of weeks live the GB has generated over 4300 individual posts is testament to its popularity! Quick reminder that I still have a few kits going free gratis and for nothing, if anyone fancies building a 1/72 Hasegawa Dauntless, Airfix Hudson or Smer/Heller Corsair frop me a PM. Cheers all Tony
  14. Well, this is certainly shifting along!
  15. Great work on the Kingfisher. And that is a splendid little graphic you've come up with!
  16. I've seen that scheme on a decal sheet and now you've made it all the more appealing! You're right though, close-up photography can be brutal. I have two bottles of original formulation Johnson's Klear, discontinued some 10-12 years ago, that I guard like Frodo did the One Ring!
  17. Sorry, no update last night as I had a lovely drive to Manchester Airport and back to pick up the son and heir in Dad's Taxi, normal service will be resumed this evening. Couple of interesting new additions today!
  18. Oh, I don’t doubt that she’s put it in the bank for a rainy day.
