Bunfight voting opens at midnight UK time! Get your votes in and give me and @Col. something to do next year!
  2. The Maskol is off and it's not looking bad, although I worry I may have gone with perhaps a slightly too bright shade of green. It's not as "blue" as it appears in this photo and I guess will look ok with a wash and a matt finish. Sure enough there's a bit of this going on. I think though if I let it dry absolutely thoroughly I should be able to knock the edges back to where they should be with a rub from some Micromesh.
  3. I’m just getting to decalling stage of my first Eduard kit, and these decals give me the heebie-jeebies. It would be ok to just leave the film on, presumably? Is it any thicker or more prominent than “regular” carrier film?
  4. At (the usual) risk of overcommitting, I find myself drawn to this one... Paddy Finucane or Jan Zumbach maybe?
  5. Definitely getting my vote, this one. Likely something Italian, to make up for "Parliamo Italiano" not making it last year. (Quick check tells me I have kits that will do for seven of the GB proposals - eight if you count the Entropy thing, but I don't think my modelling skills are up to that...)
  6. I fancy this one now. Got a Spitfire XIV with a lady's name on the side.
  7. I hope that isn't some kind of omen for the fortunes of the Salty Sea Dog! 😳
  8. Well, here we are on the eve of the Bunfight! Unless I am mistaken, the Salty Sea Dog is the GB proposal with the biggest number of sign-ups (just one ahead of the Entropy GB), which I'm rather chuffed about. But there's no such thing as a shoo-in in the Bunfight and those proverbial chickens should not be counted - it means nothing without your vote! Please lend this GB your support when polls open tomorrow!
  9. The thing is with using Maskol as a mask is that in my experience (with rattlecan primer, anyways) the way it dries makes it difficult to get a clean edge to the paint when the Maskol is peeled off, best illustrated thusly: So when painting I'm trying to hug the edges of the Maskol and avoid overlapping onto it. I have the first layer of green on, so far so good: ...but the moment of truth will be when I peel off the purple stuff. The dark earth is just Humbrol 29 daubed on with a hairy stick. The green is Revell 68. I've half-assembled the radiator and will be sticking it on after rattlecanning the underside aluminium, I see what you mean, lot going on there! Cheers Tony
  10. Started to get some slap on. Having previously found cutting masks a faff and painting camouflage freehand fraught with danger, I’m experimenting with using Maskol not as masks exactly but lines to paint within. We’ll see how it goes.
  11. In the paint booth (that is to say a repurposed Hello Fresh box) for some grey stuff... ...and ready for a bit of slap:
  12. Thanks @bigbadbadge. I reckon I could go crazy on the Eduard kits Chris. I think though that my next build will be the Airfix F 24 in Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force livery, as on the box top (loving Mr Tooby's artwork as always). as Spitfires go I don't suppose it could be much further from the 11th Mk I ever to be built. I also have their Seafire Mk XVII and I'm hoping the FAA GB proposal will get through the bunfight for that one.
  13. Starting to look something like a Spitfire now! I'll probably put a light smear of PPP on the wing roots, not sure if it actually needs it there but I think the wing tips and certainly the horizontal stabs benefitted (the starboard HS I managed to gouge a piece of plastic off it so that needed sorting. I can't say enough good things about this kit,it's an absolute joy to build. You're not wrong, @Troy Smith, I enjoy the educational aspect of a build, learning about the aircraft (whether the type or the specific airframe) while I'm throwing a model together. My impression is that Eduard care more about accuracy than most manufacturers, this is my first kit of their but I already have a Mk XVI bubbletop and a Mk VIII lined up.
  14. This. Two quid + postage off of Faceache Marketplace. Rather chuffed.
  15. Thanks for that - an easy fix! To be honest I can't claim any skill in its creation, everything about the kit is beautiful!
  16. I am going to follow this because it is... weird!
  17. Are you talking about IVF kit A04061? If so, yes it does. Edit: sorry, my mistake. I see where you're going with this. The kit I'm referring to isn't the "F".
  18. ...aaaand we're zipped up. Just sitting on the wings to try them for size at the moment (1/48 Spits are an impressive size!) I filled the recessed rivets on the wing leading edges, thanks for the heads up on that @Biggles87, also there's some kind of fuel cap on the port side that the obstructions say to fill, so I have. There was the hint of a step along the top of the nose join that I've had to sand flush.
  19. I have a cockpit (apart from the gun sight which I'll add in a bit). Pretty happy with it, Eduard's prepainted i/p is superb. Corrective work on the "wrong seat" turned out ok. I didn't go full etch on the pedals and they look a bit clunky but they can't be seen once zipped up anyway. The pilots of these very early Mk Is didn't have the benefit of armour plating behind their seat, but then nobody was trying to shoot them down yet. Curiously it seems that my build rate at 1/48 is quicker than 1/72!
  20. I have just made what I'm calling a "natural migration" from 1/72 to 1/48, on account of my not-what-it-once-was eyesight... I guess I'm galloping towards 1/32!
