Octopus/Pavla 1/72 Grumman F7F-3N Tigercat Updated Decals
TonyOD replied to hsr's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
For all the aggro, the end result looks fantastic. -
That is unlikely! I'm trying to up my game a little bit but my output will be pretty middle of the road compared to some of the stuff round here. That said, I felt a took a trip into "proper modeller" territory last night when I spent 40 minutes opening up that tiny slot...
-
I didn't bother with the ejector pins on mine but I did fill the holes! Out of sight and all that... I'll be following your progress with interest, hopefully might pick up a tip or two. (I think I have that version of the Wessex in my stash, blue/yellow scheme on the box, might be a Revell come to think of it.)
-
I'll look in on that. I might learn something!

Thanks, @hendie, this is all good stuff. i had a read of @HL-10's build last nigth, and will have a look at your mighty effort later. Is the flag on the nose of yours a monster descal or (somehow) painted, @viper-30? Bit of minor surgery going on with my little effort. There are recesses to accommodate what I presume are steps up to the cockpit. There’s a pair on each side but they’re too shallow and too small (especially the upper ones which should be twice the width). Also the lower ones are too far aft, they should be in a vertical line. Done one of the upper ones, but the lower ones will be interesting as I’ve been hasty in gluing the legs on. Fun and games. (Really both should be a bit further forward, but I'll live with it.) I don’t know when I started caring about this stuff. It creeps up on you.

I'm no expert on this but my next build is going to be the Xtrakit Hunter T7, and it says on the box that it was made by MPM so there's every chance.

Airfix 1/72 Blenheim IV - two years and all done...
TonyOD replied to Simon's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
That's stunning.. -
That's a beast. Fantastic. Is that the loo mounted on the wall? Doesn't appear to offer a lot of privacy!
-
Yeah I noticed the Canberra too. It's all too blue to be true. thanks for the info on the turret.
-
Yeah the blue is appealing but doesn't make much sense. I'd have to work out how to get rid of that dorsal turret. Can't be that hard?
-
Apologies to @Adam Poultney for hijacking his thread...
-
Hard to tell whether the ETPS Shack was painted blue, as one photograph and the profile you mention suggest, or sea grey, with the "blue" photograph being an inaccurate representation, colour-wise. there does seem to be a lot of blueness to that pic...
-
How about that! perfect! Thanks so much for your help.
-
Thank you! And what a paint scheme! I wonder how I'd go about getting decals to do that? I assume the roundels would have been standard size, but the fuselage and underwing serials were red, apparently, and there's that red "T" on the tail, in one of the available photos at least.

Fantastic job. MPM do a navy trainer version that I really like the look of, but with the size of my stash as it is I can't really justify...

1/48 Revell/Hasegawa RAF F-4 Phantom FGR Mk.2
TonyOD replied to Jos Jansen's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Beautiful. I can only aspire to this level of awesomeness! For my money the Phantom was the most beautiful jet plane ever to take to the air. I did a navy F4 years ago but it is sadly lost in action. Might have to do another one... -

Tamiya 1/48 De Havilland Mosquito PR MkIV
TonyOD replied to AliGauld's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
That's lovely. Such an elegant machine. -
That's a fair point. Actually I messaged the guy to ask if he ever built it but he didn't reply.

I have an itching to do something big and bulky and the FAA aren't known for their heavyweights, my low-level OCD might just allow me to expand my remit into British "maritime" aviation and do a Coastal Command Shack. The Airfix Whitley and Wellington both look nice too.

This is me at a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight "technical day" at RAF Coningsby a few years ago. It was a full day in the hangar and a classroom outside the flying season, when they are stripping and maintaining the planes. It was meant to last six hours but I was there nine. Absolutely amazing day, and wonderful to see these iconic planes up close and learn so much about them from the technicians who know them intimately. I have less hair nowadays. Not baldness, I shaved it all off a few weeks ago after a failed attempt at a lockdown haircut by my son.

Sort of. I went through a succession of electric guitars - I had a Les Paul because I was going to be the next Jimmy Page, then an Epiphone Emperor because I was going to be the next Joe Pass, then a Telecaster because I was going to be the next Jeff Buckley, then a Strat because I was going to be the next Dave Gilmour. Nowadays I just bash away at my acoustic (early 70s Japanese). I wish I'd hung onto that Tele though, it was beautiful.

Just came across this, I'm building a 1/72 Wessex at the moment. Stunning job. Looks like the real thing.

No I haven't, I saw an out-of-the box review on YouTube and it looked mighty impressive!
