  1. It's one shapely bird, isn't it? I like the touch of the turning prop, I always leave mine off til the absolute last thing then just glue them on. Looking forward to next steps.
  2. Friday the 13th roundup... It's been a quiet day for new additions to the build list, with just the one... but what an addition!!! @Marklo is going to scratch build a Viking longship! Truly there is a seat at the table in the halls of Valhalla for you, brave warrior! Total number of builds now 115! A few more builds have turned green and are now up and running, including the sole vehicular entity in the GB (so far), @bigfoot's Royal Marines Centaur! We now have 72 live builds. It's notable that the floaty contingent don't hang about, almost all of the ships that have been WIP'd have now laid the keel, or whatever it is the shipbuilding fraternity say. Going into the weekend I'm hoping to get some bench time to move my Seafire(s) along, hope you all have a fantastic weekend whether you're modelling or something else. Cheers all Tony
  3. Arma Hobby seem to be doing fantastic things in 1/72. I'm looking forward to this one and how you tackle the catapult thingy.
  4. I've seen that ship, @Marklo... they have a great collection of notable old boats in Oslo. also Kon Tiki, and Fram, the ship used by Nansen and then Amundsen in their polar adventures. I'm a bit of a polar exploration geek, if ever there was a ship deserving of a model kit it's Fram! Looking forward to seeing how your Viking ship develops!
  5. Excellent to see this one up and running, and great work on the little guy.
  6. I think everything there is to be said has been said... build 'em all!
  7. Following with great interest. As I said I don’t remember my build being that challenging, but it’s a long time ago!
  8. I’ve been looking forward to turning this one green!
  9. Went looking for a Barracudecals resin prop… but alas, none to be had!
  10. Great fun as this is I don’t think I’ll be feeling the love for an extension come the end of April - it’s intense! I am very much not retired so dip in when I can, and I set aside an hour a night for the admin. Be nice if I get my builds done along the way too
  11. Well no surprises for me @2996 Victor as you're the only BMer that I've actually met in person. Nice Malta pic. Not sure about that shade of blue in your shirt though
  12. Ah, now you mention it I think it was one “s”! I used to work in the textile industry and visited Kortrijk 3-4 times a year, Bernadette was our agent. Sorry it was kind of a silly question… bit like me saying “hi, I’m Peter Jones” and somebody saying “hey, are you related to Steve Jones in Birmingham?” I’m sure there are a lot of Buysses, and Belgium is an entire country! cheers Tony
  13. Oooh... how about I swap it for a 1/72 Blenheim? As for the rest... my head hurts... I'm going to bed...
  14. Thanks for that @Graham Boak, I know it's a deeeep rabbit hole and I've read all the relevant stuff about it here on BM so a retread isn't necessary, however just to summarise: a blue (of whatever shade) over sky scheme for this airframe with these codes in yellow is a reasonably safe bet, albeit without the slipper tank and four cannon by that stage? Don't suppose you know what it would have looked like when it took of from Wasp - still in desert scheme with sky undersides? [Edit] sorry obviously I didn't read your post properly... they were painted blue before even loading onto Wasp? I seem to remember seeing pics of Spitfires being hoisted aboard and in the hangar with what looks like desert scheme. Sorry it's too late for me to back this up with a search. Here I go with the can of worms... Cheers (and apologies for hijacking your thread Mark!) Tony
  15. Nice addition Stefan, too late to be added to the Build List tonight but I'll make sure I do it tomorrow. I don't suppose you're related to a Bernadette Buysse of Kortrijk?
  16. Just before I actually go tinker with some styrene for half an hour before bedtime: I've put a pinned post at the top if the GB inviting our Sea Dogs to introduce themselves with a picture. I feel there's a strong sense of community about this build, and it would be nice to know a bit more about some of the shipmates I correspond with on a daily basis. No obligation whatsoever of course, I am sure there are those among us who will wish to preserve their carefully cultivated air of mystery! G'night!
  17. Early signs are that this GB is going to a winner, it's proving very popular and already there's a real sense of being in a gang about it. I find myself corresponding with my online modelling pals here every day but have no idea what's behind the name and avatar! I know this has been done elsewhere on the forum, but how about introduce yourself with a pic and maybe a few words about yourself? No obligation whatsoever of course! This is me and my other half Mary (guesting here with a build of the luxury liner with which she shares her name.) We live in Nottinghamshire, England with our two cats Stanley and Maggie. We both work at a local secondary school, she's a maths teacher and I work with the SEN kids and run inclusive sport. Here we're on our way up Snowdon in North Wales last week, Crib Goch in the background. We're both mad about the outdoors and are instructors for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Best wishes from us both.
  18. Thanks @Troy Smith. It feels like any self-respecting Spitfire collection can't omit K5054! I've been accumulating a small reference library and now have a fantastic range of photos of the prototype at various stages in its life (including even before that a wooden mock-up of the new fighter suspended over a Stranraer flying boat from the ceiling of Supermarine's hanger).
  19. I'm looking forward to this one too. I haven't done a desert Spit yet (well not in 1/48), but I have a USAAF one lined up for this GB and a Free French one for the recce GB. I just got hold of the HF Mk VIII 1/48 Weekend kit for an absolute song with two pointy-winged schemes, can't decide whether to go grey/PRU blue or on the other hand there's a very attractive desert scheme... You're right about Eduard kits though... they don't skimp on the plastic!
  20. Today's quick roundup: Another bunch of new builds added to the Build List: welcome @Cklasse, whose Seaking was a forlorn and lonely WIP elsewhere on the forum, but has now been brought to the bosom of the Salty Sea Dog GB, its natural home; also @Lanmi, with his Hellcat, it's now probably neck and neck between Supermarine and Grumman for best represented manufacturer! Also thank you to @Ngantek who has added an early 20th century destroyer to his carrier from the same era. Our grand total of builds now stands at... 114! Of these 66 have now turned green in the list and are underway, with one build completed so far. If I overlook your starting a build (easily done, as there's a lot going on) just give me a nudge via PM. Apologies to @Paul_B in this regard, his ASR B-P Defiant has been up and running for a few days and I didn't sort it. It's all going swimmingly, I'm enjoying dipping into as many builds as I can, thanks to co-hosts @Col. and new kid on the block @Bertie McBoatface in this regard. Cheers all Tony
