  1. English speakers just say it as it's spelled, but in French it's roughly "Ell-aire", with the French "r" right in the back of the throat. I suppose their German owners would pronounce it same way as we do. (Incidentally in German it means "lighter", as in less dark.)
  2. Good to see. Still got a soft spot for the big "H". I wonder what Jean Jacques is up to...?
  3. That's a super little cockpit for the scale Mark. Rivals the Tamiya Zero I did I while back, fer sure.
  4. Sunday evening round-up... There are those who suggest that there is life outside the Salty Sea Dog Group build, but that's ridiculous, right? (Actually I just got back from the piccies. A Man Called Otto. Most enjoyable.) Today's been a relatively quiet day with "only" three new additions to the Build List: @psdavidson adds the Japanese battleship Yamato to his Trafalgar sub (you're nobody in this GB without at least two builds ); @Ngantek with a Seafire IIb which he'll be modding from an Airfix Ia kit; and has @Mjwomack been having more than his ration of rum? He's proposing a diorama of an off-shore wind farm. Love it. So that takes our total of builds to... 122! Meanwhile his DUKW has been moved to the vehicle section to keep @bigfoot's Centaur company. @Luke1199's Bearcat still sits in splendid isolation in the gallery of finished builds, and has been getting a bit of love on Insta. #saltyseadoggb, if that's your thing. Enjoy your builds y'all, and have a great week. Tony
  5. Probably not. More likely to file/sand down on one side and build up/fill in on the other once the cannon are on. I expect I'll be digging the needle files out.
  6. You know this is going on the Build List, right?
  7. Thank you, @Mjwomack. I am more than somewhat humbled by your words. Just happy to see folks having a good time, and such a fascinating array of subjects.
  8. I love to see the story behind the subject. 30 seconds though. Got to say I find the idea of being trapped inside a sinking ship very unsettling. I've been doing a little bit of reading up on shipping losses in WW2 and the sheer numbers of souls lost in one sinking were staggering. War, eh?
  9. Progress on the wings... still to do: sanding the edges, addition of the (clipped) tips, a bit more Humbrol 90 on the bits where the radiator and air intake will be. The firt of the cannon bulge panels in their "bed" aperture isn't great, I had to said them back a bit to get them in so a bit of filling and possibly scribing to do there. I've painted the inside of the shell ejector ports and the underside of the upper wing half black, and filled the ports with Maskol to keep them that way when I get busy with the primer. I must say I do like SH's "box" approach to the wheel wells, I haven't taken the time to look how accurate a representation of the real thing they may be but they're sample to put together and will provide a solid point of contact for the undercarriage legs, unlike some manufacturers of 1/48 Spitfires I could mention (*coughAirfix!*), it makes for happy modelling. The join of the cannon stubs on the starboard wing is poor - in hindsight I should have removed the very small locater pins and matched the wing halves to the cannon stubs. anyway, onwards!
  10. I’m intrigued by the little teardrop shaped things aft of the wing roots.
  11. Thanks Chris. Apart from the outboard m/g covers, I’ve got the remaining decals in without any further dramas. The other side of a coat of Kleer I’ll be summoning the nerve to have a crack at some oil and/or pastel weathering.
  12. I’ll wait for your flare to go up. Will switch it to the vehicles in this evening’s update though. Bit of company for @bigfoot’s Centaur.
  13. Sunday morning shift. Just went Googling to verify the order of the codes on the starboard fuselage and came across this wonderful pic of Zumbach (furthest from camera) and his countrymen in flight. I think that's one of his earlier Vb's though, not EN951.
  14. The end justifies the meanness Ooh now you're talking!
  15. In that particular photo I'd agree, the date of the damage is known and it would almost certainly have been DFS by that time. Anyway, I don't want to hijack your thread! What, all of them?
  16. You've taken the arrester hook off... the only denavalised Seafires I know off the top of my head belonged to the Irish Air Corps?
