  1. "A bit late" starts on 1st May Colin, and what a great old kit to add to the Salty Sea Dog fleet. Welcome aboard!
  2. Always happy to sea Reg's finest added to the lineup @Louise, look forward to see them come together. Welcome aboard!
  3. I would say so, dive in. Sorry to hear about the Seafire. What's the issue there?
  4. I believe it’s a different mould for the XV wing - the blisters are moulded as part of the wing rather than separate panels to glue in, plus theres what I assume is a fold line.
  5. Um. This muddies the waters very slightly, I wasn't actually aware other companies had reboxed Eduard sprues. To me Eduard's strength is the package. So for the sake of simplicity I'm going to make the condition of eligibility that if it says Eduard on the box, whether or not it's their plastic, it's in; if not, it's not eligible, even if it was originally Eduard sprues. Might seem a bit odd I realise but keeps it simple. Furthermore any aftermarket used should be Eduard. You'd think I was on the payroll... What makes you say that? I think their stuff is pretty well priced for what you get. But they're so nice... Thanks to everyone who has raised a hand so far!
  6. Day 13 update... As I'm taking my son and heir to Manchester Airport in the wee small hours of tomorrow morning, I'll get a quick update in early. Two additions to the gallery today, both excellent their very different ways: @stevej60 hot on the heels of his son and heir with a sleek Airfix Banshee, and GB first-timer Jon @Faraway with a beautiful build of HMAS Castlemaine, which I didn't realise until today is still with us, moored in Melbourne and spending a happy retirement as a museum ship. And a couple of additions to the Build List: Lord High Master of the Group Builds @Enzo the Magnificent with a maritime classic, the Cutty Sark, and (belatedly, with apologies) @PhantomBigStu's Mossie XVIII. The scores on the doors... 132 builds 92 underway 5 finished All for now! Cheers Tony
  7. That is a fine looking result Steve. Don’t let it get you down that @Luke1199 beat you into the gallery - the impetuousness of youth, innit!
  8. Thanks for your understanding. I love a Sea Vixen, me.
  9. It wouldn’t really be right to allow it, I’m afraid. The point of the GBs is the pleasure of seeing every else’s builds come together, and this one is nearly done. Fair play for your work rate though, of course you’d be more than welcome aboard with another build
  10. Yes it is, thank you. And I will be heading straight there for a butchers. edit: just stunning, frankly. I don’t care what you build next Jon, satisfaction guaranteed.
  11. Well, we called it a bus, but it were actually a rusty roller skate wi’ only three wheels. But it were a bus to us.
  12. Sure! Unless you’re an absolute modelling machine I’m guessing it won’t be more than 25% done! Apologies - missed it!
  13. Maybe I should add it to the list as a guest build and honorary Salty Sea Dog... whether they'll get it finished by 30th April is another question though...
  14. My pitch for next year is perhaps slightly less broad in scope than the Salty Sea Dog!
  15. Day 12 roundup... Evening shipmates, today we have four new builds to add the mighty list: couple of Westland helicopters, namely @heloman1's Whirlwind (to add to his Sea King) and @airfixpeter's Lynx, plus @PeterB's second build, a Vought Cutlass. And in the floaty section, @Rod The Fixer joins us with his 1/350 Admiral Kuznetsov carrier, which by my calculations will be a modest 87cm long when built! No additions to the gallery today, although @Faraway's mightily impressive HMAS Castlemaine looks like it will be steaming into harbour sometime soon! As at today we have 130 builds 92 underway 3 finished Cheers all Tony
  16. @Corsairfoxfouruncle @vppelt68 @DaveJL Thank you fellow Eduardians for this early show of support. I've just done a mental count of how many of their 1/48 Spits I have in the stash and I'm at about 11, I reckon. That's not to say I wouldn't consider breaking out with a different choice of subject! Anyway, back to Salty Sea Dog duties... Cheers Tony
  17. Final edit 20/1/23 Hi all I'm thoroughly enjoying hosting the Salty Sea Dog GB at the moment and am delighted that it's being so well supported, but my thoughts are already turning to 2024. There have been plenty "classic" GBs based on kits from individual manufacturers, however I'd like to propose a "modern classics" GB - anything by Eduard. Since I got back into Spitfires I've become slightly captivated by the Czech manufacturer's products, not to mention how they are packaged and marketed (and I do like the discernible sense of fun associated with the company). I've accumulated everything from basic Overtrees through Weekend and Profipack editions right up to a couple of their lovely Dual Combo boxings (Royal Class has so far eluded me, though!) I have yet to be disappointed when opening an Eduard kit or setting about the building thereof. So the theme of my GB would simply be: anything by Eduard. Ideally a kit with "Eduard" on the box, their reboxings of other manufacturers' kits with their own added goodies are perfectly eligible. Eduard sprues repackaged by other brands permissible (there are some, I believe), however please point to the relevant Scalemates page by way of evidence of your build's pedigree. Other manufacturers' kits simply improved with Eduard aftermarket don't fall within the scope of the proposal. Any and all additions to, refinements or improvements of your chosen kit(s) permitted. Potential for some great-looking builds methinks. Any takers?
