  1. Hi Before COVID me and group of 15 guys would drive down to Breezy Point MN for an annual weekend of golfing (and drinking) fun. Cheers
  2. Hello Ced, I'm silently lurking your WIP thread and have to say that the nail polish shaker is the best. I didn't know such a think existed and I think would be perfect for my old Vallejo paints that come in the eyedropper bottles. Now I can shake the heck out of them using a machine that my wife and daughters think I got for them. LOL
  3. @Jur I am like you coming back to the hobby after many many years. I commend your work and it is inspiring me to get cracking on my stash. Cheers
  4. @Filbert_Wang - Yes doing the reading and research is the fun part of the process, painting canopies I am learning quickly, is not. LOL Looking at references is great but for someone who is colour blind like me I don't stand a chance making my own mix so need to rely on others. So if someone has their own mix of Tamiya paints for the darker camo I'd appreciate it otherwise I will do what @CT7567 suggested and lighten up the xf-22 with some white or buff. Cheers
  5. @CT7567 Thanks for taking the time to give me that link. I've been googling for some time and did not come across that. Yes the decals that come with the kit are for the pre-war era. The instructions come with a camo pattern but it is slightly different than what is shown on your link. I'm going to go with the resource you provided. Researching and learning about history is another benefit of this hobby. Thanks for your help I appreciate it.
  6. @CT7567 Thanks for the input. I like the profile name btw. I decided to do the Yugoslavian Air Force variant if that makes a difference? I will lighten up the xf-22 to tone it down. Thanks.
  7. Hi All Just starting my second kit that I picked up on the cheap to hone my skills. To be honest I am finding that there is such a huge learning curve to enter this hobby and finding what color paints to use is part of that learning curve. I am doing my due diligence and research but can't seem to get a good handle on a paint scheme. The thing is that I like to use Tamiya paints through my airbrush. I've looked at cross reference charts and whatnot but there are missing gaps as far as Tamiya goes. I'm assuming I need to mix to fill in the blanks. This is what I've come up with so far and I am posting this for some feedback and suggestions. xf-19 for the interior and base coat of the main body and wings x-10 for the exhaust tubes xf-24 for the dark grey cone/wing tips xf 22 for the camo For black I just use xf-1, neat or mixing in a bit of white or light grey depending what I'm painting so not to get that stark black colour for tires and whatnot. Should I use it neat for the antiglare or cut it with a bit of grey? I can also get Vallejo paints locally so that is an option as well. I just prefer to hand brush these instead of airbrush. Cheers Frank
  8. This is my first post to Britmodeller so don't know if I've placed this in the right spot. I was looking for a general discussion/techniques section but could not find one. Anyway onto my question. I've been researching many types of washes and came across something called a clay based wash. I am trying to figure out if there is a difference between a wash made with artist's chalk, water and some dish soap and using a commercial clay wash like a Flory wash? Did a lot of google searches and did searches on this forum and could not find an answer. Cheers Frank
  9. Oh wow I didn't know about that and naming the chapter "Valour Road" is very appropriate. Thanks for the invite.
  10. Greetings Britmodellers I'm 56 and a newbie to the hobby of modelling. Did a few models when I was youngster but never really followed through. Decided to change that and picked up 7 kits for a bargain price of $5 CND. Most of them aircraft of different scales but have a race car and a Tamiya "hanomag" there as well. Plan is to work through them all and use them as practice pieces. So far I am butchering a P-51B Mustang 1:48 Revel kit. I'm at the decal and weathering stage. Up on deck I will try my hand at a 1:72 MIG Fulcrum from Hasegawa. I don't really have a modelling preference yet (aircraft or tanks) but my interest is mostly WW II military. Anyway enough of that just wanted to say hello before I post any questions I have. Now time for me to lurk the forums. Cheers
