.. why did they even bother? Surely all the important bits (engines etc) had to come from abroad...

As a former airline pilot and current trainer I usually hesitate to go in hard against pilots, especially those who lose their lives, as they are human beings and prone to error like any human. But this is the most egregious and unforgivable performance I've read by a flight crew in the modern era.
think you forgot the GIG-CDG A330...AF 447

sad news...he was a very well respected author in his own right as well promoting many others..

As for the internal colours, mostly they were an off white/ivory colour. Not sure what colours Mig are offering.... I'll leave that one to you.
in the turret...yes. To maximise available light and to help when cleaning up the blood splatter....(yes, that what's a vet told me..) Obviously not the same requirements in the engine bay

Any magazine "specials" also that feature the F4U? I have the "Aviation Classics" special on the Corsair from 2011 which is a nice introduction to the Corsair for the uninitiated. 👍
the now defunct "Aces" magazine published two volumes on the Corsair with Part II covering the post-war period F2G to F4U-7. Via the Heimdal web site, French text. Doesn't look like they are still available, but the sort of thing you could probably pick up easily from The Aviation Bookshop in Tunbridge Wells.

@Pete in Lincs... a recommendation for you. Currently reading Geert Mak's "In Europe - travels through the 20th Century". Each of the book's 66 chapters (800 page paperback) deals with a city or town in Europe, mostly covering wartime, eg Stalingrad, Vichy, London, Dunkirk, Prague, Budapest, Oosterbeek etc at a particular period. Brilliant & fascinating read..

.. indeed, you can't rely on the checker decals to work around those tight curves on the nose, tried and ended up painting them...

Very nice! You didn't happen to locate a rigging diagram by any chance when doing your research?

Like RS Models, not so keen on Luft 46, but could be tempted here. Any clues as to whether this would be a tail-sitter or not? If so where would you put the weight. Presumably behind the 'deflector plate' ?

..superb! goes to show you can learn an awful lot just by staring hard at the photos for a long time!

....how the modelling coming along? You must have a finished a few by now.
I recently spent a week hanging out with a friend from HOU...but hey-ho, you've gotta come from somewhere!

... great stuff! So much time effort and skill painting the lower wings. Can't even see what a tremendous job you've done there until you turn the thing over! Welcome to the club!

... don't let yourself get sucked in by the (Airfix box top) promise of a gleaming glossy elegant looking model - it won't happen. Someone's already used the word 'nightmare'...

I appreciate all the advice you passed on, truly. But trust me, for some people using an airbrush just isn't as easy as proponents of them say it is.
I'd agree. I struggle in similar fashion. been airbrushing for donkey's years, have decent airbrushes (Harder & S), compressor and tank. Every session is still a bit of a chore. Used to hate having to strip the brush down after each session, now I can do it in my sleep. Definitely the paint & thinning that's the problem. But then I've used them all - or so it seems. Keeping separate brushes for acrylics and enamels is a good tip. A colleague recently suggested Mr Color - beautiful paints, but no, they don't seem to 'work' any better than Tamiya. which are probably still the best for me. So I stick to cans for single colour schemes - Halfords Volvo dark grey is great for black by the way. Yellows and reds are great out of cans. The new Dora Wings Fairey Delta will probably get a few coats of BMW blue and look not too bad!

very nice! 'Droop snoot' option on this one...?
