  1. Realised the Modeldecal sheet covers 52736 as 11-RO of EC3/11 in Metropolitan France when camouflaged and there is nice picture of her from 50 years ago at an open day on multiple websites (all the same image). So alongside progress on F-104G in Bay Boomers I have started:

    • Bang seat
    • Cockpit
    • Packing out most of the pylon pre-cuts in wings with styrene strip because the phots just shows drop tanks.

Brilliant. Thanks Shaun. There is not one there I wouldn't like to model but the Phantoms were an especial treat. :)

This one really set my heart racing.

    Steve.

me too, just as well making an AUP Rhino at 1/72 isn't easy.  😀 But the bleached or dirty vipers appeal most. Thanks @Seamus

One of them is kit from the subject - ESCI 1/72 F-100D Super Sabre, which I plan to finish as Danish G-279, but probably as heavily weathered one, in spite of G-279 actually been very glossy and shiny Dark Green one.

srkirad are you sure this airframe wasn’t in the fading green? This wiki image is from 1973 which I understand is a long time before the glossy green. Just started a Hun myself.   Chris

  4. I do love the RoAF unique Viper scheme, it is on my very log to-do list. That loadout sounds more like an airshow thing, the many pictures of them on BAP show 2 + 2 missiles, and a nice touch of the flag folded and tucked in front of the HUD, and weathering ofc.

Nice Easter weekend pictures, I envy the temperature, the north of England wasn't anything like that warm.

I'm going to join this as my first GB. I've got a dodgy Hasagawa 1/72 A-10A in the stash and a Check Six Spangdahlem Air Base decals set in the post.

I'd add a US Flag as an emoji but the forum doesn't give that as an option (how does one add the flag for the GB?) I might even use this as an excuse to start buying MRP paint as I can crack open the window and stick the extraction booth hose outside again.

Flags in the title depend on how you access the forum. On my phone and  iPad it just comes up as an option when you type. United States 🇺🇸

  6. So I got the French flag and looked in the stash for what would suit and found this kit and these decals; both give me an option of a camouflaged Hun from Djibouti; which fits the GB, but I would rather do one from Metropolitan France if I can fiddle the decals. I am not keen on NMF and the French NMF look doesn't appeal.

  8. Fuselage all together now. I painted the canopy framing before fitting which gives a chance to check on any errors more easily, At the same time I made a start on the less faded panel lines from photos, and trialled a bit of lightened finished colour on the tail; the contrast is not as obvious in the photo as in real life. Some filling and filing on the front/rear join then the wings and tip-tanks.

  9. And front fuselage all assembled, slowly, from experience of previous builds the fit of the intakes is imprecise and not much mating surface so I've gone one piece at a time and left to set solid. Last couple of builds I have left a lot of the seam clean-up until everything was together but I've recognised that apart from the blade aerial on the underside this front fuselage is robust so I'll get this all sorted out before mating with the rear. (Except for the pitot which will be toward the end as on this plane the because I've got show the radome a solid un-faded colour and different to the rest of the plane.) Gone for green and khaki cover to the IP which seems typical of a G, unlike the light grey of the S. Freehand painting of the anti icing black paint wasn't as good as I'd hoped but I'll be masking off anyway for the faded green body colour.
