Bristol Type 175 Britannia 1/144
Redboost replied to Redboost's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks everyone for kind comments, glad you like her! Turbofan: yes, that one is in the pipeline, got it to my stash recently. Threadbear: yes, it must be laborious both for crew and passengers. The flight was routed over Berlin-Copenhagen-Shannon (stop over)-Gander (stop over)- Havana, in total 9721 km and with good weather the total flight time was just about 24 hours. Eric Mc: right, that was quite unusual at that times. Anyway, renting those planes from Fidel's comrades seemed to be politically acceptable :-) Mike: I share your enthusiast about these airliners, they are a sort of Aston Martin amongst the planes. Build wise, no major issues, just the engine nacelles did not fit well to the wing's counterparts and needed little filler. But the fit of the large parts was very good. Cheers Libor -
Hi folks, a little change in my usual portfolio as do not often build airliners, but this one nicely fits to my Czechoslovak / Czech aviation collection. The Roden kit is pretty good, some fiddling and filling was required just around the engine nacelles. The decal are from BOA Agency for OK-MBA, one of two ex-Cubana machines rented by CSA in 1960's for connection between Prague and Havana (operated with stop overs in Ireland and Canada), until the arrival of Il-62. PZL.23 A (Karas I) 1/72 IBG Models
Redboost replied to Redboost's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi Bruce, no that long, maybe two weeks, but not on daily basis, mostly weekends. The instructions suggest some odd building steps, for instance attaching the starboard fuselage halve to assembled wing and then add the port one, but I used more conventional approach and all went fine. From my additions I would mention the seat belts and rescribing the exhaust the collector ring which was omitted on the cowling. Cheers Libor -

No problem Jerzy, I see your point. I just tried to follow the photo and colour reconstruction, despite it looks little unusual and I was not sure how to properly depicts that on the kit. Cheers Libor -

Redboost replied to Redboost's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi Jerzy, this photo was actually taken in June 1941 and it shows some irregularities in the applied markings. Btw, those wing stripes were red and then over painted I can really recommend the aforementioned Stratus books which nicely shows the Karas No.2 after an accident in July 1941 (page 61). Cheers / pozdrawiam Libor -

Many thanks for kind comments gents, much appreciated! Joachim: in fact, the upper colour is still the original Polish one (the machine has been completely repainted at a later date during an overhaul). The paint wear on the wing was done according to period pictures and colour profile in the Polish Wings No.17 publication by Stratus - I can just recommend this book, it offers wealth of information on PZL.23/43 in Polish, Romanian and Bulgarian AF. Cheers Libor -
Hi gents, since the new IBG Models kit is just fab so I could not resists my temptation to build it asap. So this is the finished article built OOB except few small mods to the base kit. The markings were sourced of my decal bank and the kit represents the Karas I No.2, one of the longest serving machine of this type in the Romanian Air Force (struck off charge in 1948). I believe there might be soon a reboxing with Romanian marking by IBG too, hope they will include some of the late-style camouflage colours. Cheers Libor

Hi fellow modellers, this is result my of latest "weekend" build (took me actually 6 days to complete). I must have a soft spot for "outsider" kits which I usually prefer in favour of much better kits... You may know the Airfix effort, not completely bad, but also with odd areas a details. I simply built it as it came with only most striking details replaced as were the propeller, wheels and some cockpit details. The "109" boffins will hopefully forgive the E-4 windshield, but I did not intend to ruin a vacform canopy I save for my next AMG builds. The decals are from recent Hannant's "Spanish Civil War" sheet. Cheers Libor

Hi folks, my latest additon to my Finnish AF collection. Built with Kuivalainen etched that provided some parts specific for Finnish machines, Aires wheels as those in the kit are a bit ugly and SBS decals for GL-264 from 2/LeLv16. Painted with Gunze acrylics and rigged with flat elastic thread. Cheers Libor

Many thanks to everyone for kind comments! Fuad: the clear parts were polished with fine mesh cloths, but the canopies were already moulded very clear indeed. Steve: thank you, sir :-) Roman: that's a good observation, I could flatten the tyres a bit! Next time I'll pay better attention to it. Cheers Libor -
