Really liked this in Tropical colours. I've heard a lot of good stuff about this ICM kit. Maybe i'll throw my hat in to the ring and get one?
Interesting point you make about 'Panel Lines' too. Something i've pondered about too. It's a matter of personal preference naturally but I have to be open to the idea that ' 'less is more'
A great model and I take note of your modifications for the possible future..
Great work and thanks for showing!

I'm not sure if those Yagi ariels should be Azure Blue like the rest of the underside, or some other colour
Aluminium? Perhaps... doesn't spoil the overall effect for me being Azure..

really nicely done at such a small scale! Looks great!

Great to hear about someone returning to their childhood 'hobby'.
It's not half bad your Spitfire. I got 4 1:72 similar kits from Aldi a few years ago., think they were £4 a go. Paints were awful but I enjoyed making them anyway.. it's great to enjoy a little 'nostalgia' I think.
Keep up the good work and you'll find/ learn the skills that work for you to make models you're happy with!

Most interesting!
I knew about RAF Steeple Morden more 'famously' in the context of the Tuskagee Airmen's exploits, but didn't know about the USAAF Scouting Force. A subject for me to investigate further. I do history talks for the U3A on WW2 airfields in East Anglia and this is an interesting aspect for me to include.
Lovely model and a great 'Tribute' to these brave men! Thanks for showing this and bringing their exploits to a wider enthusiastic audience

@Col Walter E Kurtz thanks Andy, yes I did hope the steps would add a degree of realism. I like how Airfix include those and the intake blanks, same with their new tool Buccaneers.
Really worked for me! Well Done.
Yes Airfix have upped their game of late in my opinion. Added items to kits like blanking plats and ladders. Can only be a positive step. These little details we used to scratch build before ( no harm in that also!) help to make great models - outstanding.
Cheers

Great Stuff Lord Riot!
I do like The Javelin as an aircraft. Kind of chunky and VERY British!
I noticed that you also lightly weathered the Entry/Exit steps - a nice attention to detail.
Thanks for showing!

In a cruel twist of fate, the rather tall and narrow-based 2nd place trophy toppled over and smashed the Buccaneer like a wreaking ball.
Oh Dear !
Have you modified the trophy? Perhaps adding a 'Victory' Buccaneer aircraft silhouette ,or a small RN Roundel to it ? 😉
If it makes you feel any better - My Dad destroyed the completed hull of my Xmas present, an Airfix 'Cutty Sark' clipper ship by accident . I'd left it in the garden shed to fully dry after painting the hull Copper and he came home dropped a full 56lbs sack of potatoes on it in the dark! Accidents happen of course but it was a little upsetting to say the least.
Your original buccaneer is an excellent model and well deserving of the trophy!
I made the same Airfix kit last year and I must say it went together like a dream. The refuelling boom has since disappeared and the proverbial 'Carpet Monster ' gets another freebie meal!
Kind Regards

Always fancied doing an A-10 since I was targeted by one a few years back on a road through Snowdonia - mine was the only car in sight and I was convinced he took a practice run at me!
Used to work at a small electronics factory in Notts.. we regularly had Warthogs fly over us on practice attacks.. many times i had to hit the deck!
This looks fab. I absolutely love the weathering.. very realistic looking!

Thanks for showing this!

As a rule I stay away from bi-planes, too many wings, and then there is the rigging!😲
I kind of had to agree with this.. i've always liked the Swordfish and Gladiator .. but the thought of rigging them.. makes me go and build another Spitfire or P-47 Bubbletop! As for fully rigged sailing vessels.. ..just thinking about rigging them makes me feel lightheaded! I have nothing but respect for those who can do these things!

What a challenge! and what a result.. it's lovely despite the issues you had. I rather liked it, and for my money, and very good money it is too! I'd buy your kit for a Dollar!
Great stuff!

Yes indeed. Sorry about any confusion here.. it was the Mexican P47 my 'story' related to. Happy Easter everyone too!

Brilliant story about the decals!
I made this Revell kit circa 1975... brought back memories sitting in my parents car travelling to Cornwall on holiday clutching my newly made Thunderbolt.. holding it up to the car window and imagining it was flying through a storm ( it was raining outside of course!)

I'm a bit of a Jug man myself if truth be told.. Yours looks fine to me ... yes maybe a little canopy clean up but doesn't really detract from the overall model.
What was interesting was how the period pics are quite representative of the end result you did! 56th FG were based not far from me in RAF Halesworth, Suffolk, England for a time. You can imagine the ground crews freezing their a**** off in bitterly cold and wet East Anglia having to spray cammo patterns on new aircraft.. sure they wouldn't want to bother too much about masking in an exacting manner. They probably wanted to get the job done and decamp back to their pitiful wooden 'shacks' made from packing cases at their dispersal with a little stove going!
I often don't apply all the tiny decals as well! My eyes and hands are both a little used and worn now! lol 1:72 is a difficult scale for me to work in these days as well.
Well Done! and Thanks for showing. It's an unusual cammo scheme and it works for me!
Kind Regards, Andy

Very nice Gannet indeed Simon. Great photos of a superb model. Well Done! I do like this aircraft a lot and always enjoy other's depictions of it..

I kind of have to agree with you. Life is too short to worry too much. Sometimes my builds go like clockwork with a lot of research and fettling .. this is very enjoyable and no less a 'valid' process to model making - other times .. something is not gonna be perfect so I just carry on and enjoy the artistic process as much as possible!
I have a soft spot for the Beaufort. I've also done this particular kit ( did mine in RAF Desert colours 'cos i wanted to- not accurate with the decals used i suppose but i like the colour scheme!)
Your model looks brilliant. I love the cammo colours you've used and the weathering makes it look pretty good. Well Done! and thanks for showing this.. Kind Regards, Andy

Think this is what my wifey would like me to do! lol- must hide the Air Rifle ammo! Though i do have plans to maybe make a glass topped table and display the Tamiya 1:48 Lancaster and the 1:48 Revell B17 I have in the stash.

Great model
