  2. F's, S's, Air Force G's and late E's will require Finemolds to invest in tooling for a slatted wing.

B's (+ Navy G's) and N's will require Finemolds to invest in tooling for a thin wing. I assume an F-4H would need a new front fuselage and intakes as well as the thin wing.

RFs will require investment in tooling for a new wing as well as a new fuselage, as the current wing / fusleage joint is in a location that is a different shape on the recce birds compared to the fighters. Two new wings if they want to do a thin wing RF-4B as well as the thick wing recce variants.

I assume a K could be done with a new fuselage and exhausts, but it wouldn't surprise me if it would need a new wing lower surface as well.

I suspect a slatted wing would be the additional tooling most likely to pay for itself; we will have to wait and see if Finemolds think it is worthwhile expanding their range of F-4s further.

Hopefully also masks, Foxbot makes those as well, right?

    They do: https://foxbot.com.ua/fm72-002-e.html

But the Facebook page indicates that they will not be included in the kit, only the digital camo decals. So if you want to paint the camo, it appears you will need to buy the masks yourself.

The mask instructions show aircraft White 57:

    foxbot_fm_72-002_1_enl.jpg?crc=360701486

Which is the aircraft on the box art:

    279145067_5172386909549578_1419497392137

Although the artworks don't necessarily agree on the scheme detail or having the number repeated on the tail fins.

    Foxbot's own MiG-29 decal sheet: https://foxbot.com.ua/72-061-e.html

Does not appear to include a grey digital scheme option, and does not include aircraft White 57:

    fd-72-061_mig-29_02444x333.jpg?crc=38393

So it looks like Foxbot's masks are aimed specifically at the IBG kit release rather than their aftermarket offerings, for the moment at least.

I also found it notable that while the earlier decal / mask sets for the Su-24 and Su-27 include the Zvezda kits as an option, the recent MiG-29 decal release lists the available kits as: Academy, Airfix, Bilek, Condor, ESCI/ERTL, Fujimi, Hasegawa, ICM, Italeri, Kopro, MasterCraft, Revell, Tamiya, Testors, Trumpeter.

Understandably no support for Russian Zvezda, and patchy support for the reboxings of the Zvezda molds (Academy yes; Platz no; Revell maybe as they have released other MiG-29 kits in addition to their Zvezda MiG-29S kit).

Happy to see the first F-15EX release in 1:72 scale.

It looks like the kit has the necessary parts to build a Singaporean F-15SG:

    or a Qatari F-15QA:

There are aftermarket decals for the former, but I don't think there are any for the latter yet.

Aviation Art ZM is famous for its Valom and Fly box art illustrations.

Does anyone know if they also do art for Special Hobby? The Special Hobby Pembroke kit is set up to build a Sea Prince as well. You just have to use the tranparent wingtips, rather than add the wing extensions required if you want to build a Pembroke, and it includes the "school room" interior parts. But up until now, it has only been released as a Pembroke.

But I would welcome both a Special Hobby Sea Prince boxing, or a new Valom Sea Prince / Pembroke kit.

  7. Compared to the Wildcat and P-51B releases, I am a little surprised by the “surprise” nature of this. The previous releases had 3D renderings, sprue renderings and sprue shots available months before the release, but the suggestion here is that the new kit will start shipping in two weeks, even though the subject of the kit hasn’t been announced yet.

Part of me thinks that that “completely new” plastic kit may be open to interpretation. I can’t think of a Hurricane IIa being boxed by anyone before, and the only F4F-3 I can think of was the Hasegawa special edition that required the wing fold lines to be filled. So, maybe these subjects could be seen as “completely new” kit, even if the tooling used to make them isn’t, and even if we have been told they are coming.

Having said that, Arma Hobby have said that they would do a new 1:72 tooling this year. For a subject which has a Polish connection, I’d like to see a Lim-6bis, followed up by boxings of the Lim-5 / MiG-17. No issues with research, given the number of airframes and amount of knowledge available locally. And possibly less need for marketing on an initial limited Lim-6bis run – those who know what a Lim-6bis is and want one will snap it up; most others may not be tempted by renderings and sprue shots.

  8. The flash is the most obvious issue. Associated with this, the edges on some of the kit parts may not be square with the faces, when they should be.

More plastic is present than intended, and for areas that require precise assembly, such as the nose and cockpit, this can be a problem if not remedied by dry fitting and fettling to remove the excess material.

Be aware that when it comes to location features, they do not always match up - pins do not always have holes, slots do not always have tabs.

Also be aware that the instructions do not always match the plastic - the artwork of the engine front face (as photographed earlier in the thread) shows a different arrangements of tabs and slots than the parts. I believe the slot and tab should be at the bottom of the engine - otherwise the intake trunking will be upside down.

The numbering of the tail booms can be confusing, until you recognised that the port side fin is the one with the pitot tube on the top.

    > Wonder if keeping that Aeroclub kit is not a bad choice afterall....

These two kits occupy the opposite ends of the modelling spectrum - very simple v.s very complex; very basic vs. very detailed. Neither is a particularly rapid build, but it could be argued that this gives you value for your money.

I am curious as to whether an Aeroclub FB.1 or a late mark Vampire would be a better source for tail fins to convert the AGB FB.4 kit into an FB.1...

    BTW: markings/decals?

The Draw Decal site says: "If by chance you see a scale you want that is not listed, please drop us a note and will be happy to quickly add it."

    https://www.drawdecal.com/blog/

If your preferred subject features a white fuselage, that should make things reasonably straight forward. Although looking at the "About Us" page, non-white backgrounds shouldn't be a problem.

I wouldn't expect such a bespoke sheet to be cheap, but if Draw Decal impose a £135 minimum value for UK orders:

    https://www.drawdecal.com/united-kingdom-vat-tax/

That requirement would be easier to achieve.

I'd guess the extended Anti I/R fitting for the exhaust is included since they've gone to the extent of showing it in the decal instructions - but what do I know!?

I am assuming the "PUR1" part on the right side of the spue map shown above is the extended exhaust. The "PUR2" could be the rear face of the engine turbine to go with the exhaust, but it could be some other addition.

Or does the Fujimi kit lack the specific parts like the DEFA-guns?

The Fujimi kit does lack them, but if Hobby 2000 can add a resin extended tailpipe as they appear to have done on the TA-4J kit, they could add resin DEFA guns (as tooled by Quickboost http://www.quickboost.net/Obrazky/72172.jpg). And maybe a resin squared off fin tip (as previously tooled by Eagle Designs, along with DEFA guns, a parabrake housing and extended tailpipe  http://eagledesigns.50megs.com/ ).
