  1. Making progress on my 1:12 scale StuG IIIG slowly. The commanders cupola is now finished as is the main armament. You can see a lot more detail about this project on my YouTube channel here https://www.youtube.com/c/StaplesandVine Thanks for watching, I hope you find 'Project StuG' interesting.
  2. It's the sort of subject that you really have to work up a history / back story for to get the detail just right.
  3. Great work on the Heng Long. StuGs are a bit of a nightmare with all the changes. Fortunately I am well armed with plenty of books. I have a good photo of a G with zimmerit and schurzen which will make a good base to work from. It will have the co-ax in the saukopf and the late MG mounting. Still lots to discover in the 'World of StuG'.
  4. 1/12 StuG IIIG SCRATCH BUILD After building a 1/24 scratch built Maus I wanted to build something with a bit more detail and in a bigger scale. I decided to go for a StuG IIIG late war with Zimmerit, Schurzen and ultimately crew as it will become a diorama. Here's some photos of the fighting compartment and engine deck which were 3D printed. This is where I'm at so far. Now to start adding some detail. There's also a video on YouTube where you can see more of the process HERE
  5. Thanks 'Model Mate', glad you like it. it is a bit big! The masters for the tracks were 3D printed then moulds were made to cast them an metal. See episode #7 in the video series.
  6. Thanks Ian. I thought I would start with the Maus as it would be a fairly simple project! Turned out to be a bit of a rabbit hole. I think when it is based with a figure it will be easier to get a sense of what a brick this thing was. I learned a lot on the Maus and I'm ready to take on my next panzer! Glad you like the finish and YouTube channel. 🙂
  7. Hi all, here are the vital statistics. Length 420 mm ( 16.5 inches ) Width 155 mm ( 6.2 inches ) Height 155 mm ( 6.2 inches ) Weight 4760 g ( 10 lb 8ozs ) You can get a pretty good idea of the bulk from my YouTube videos. Most of the weight is in the tracks and running gear. 🙂
  8. My next build will be a smaller tank in a bigger scale. Upping the track size was a factor in choosing. I don't like fiddly detail. Enough of that on the day job. 🙂
  9. Thanks Gorby, the tracks were a nightmare (aren't they always). Very heavy and satisfying when finished though. I really enjoyed the scratch building - there are no rules.
  10. Thanks Steve. It took a couple of years off and on but now I have cut my teeth I am ready to start on something a bit more challenging.
  11. 1/24 scale scratch built MAUS Hi everyone, I thought I would share some pictures of my latest project. It's a bit complicated to explain how I made everything in a single post but it's basically from a combination of 3D printing, laser cutting and casting but you can see more on my YouTube channel here I still have to make the base and figure before I'm calling it done. 🙂
