  1. Oh dear. It's been a long holiday season, and I have been building, but not uploading pictures of the progress.
Well, ATM i'm hopefull that it will be good, but everything had nearly ended up in the trash. Once I had everything painted and the clear coat was hardened, I began with the checkertail decals. Starting with the first one, for the entire left-side of tail. It totally collapsed/wrapped around my tweezer, and despite my best effort, it was beyond saving (I may have used to hot water, when dipping it?). I packed everything away, thinking "It will be in its box, until I some day throw it out". But no, this one will be finished!
So my next try was to use tape, alot of tape. Here is the result so far, and tail stabilizers in progress.

Some small corretions are needed, but its not that bad, I think :)

  2. Hello.
I was seeking through my stash to find something for this build, and I found the decals from and Eduard Royal Class Mustang i built years ago. I did also have a Airfix mustang laying in the sales-pile, but not anymore :) It's time to get it built. It will be build OOB - except the decals ofcourse. I'm a bit worried about the decals for the tail, but here we go :D

Volker is correct that the early aircraft with flat sided canopies had an internal pulley system to keep the antenna wire tight, but in the last year of the war some of the early FW 190D-9 aircraft with flat sided canopies did not have the pulley tightening equipment either  With these and blown canopies just fix the antenna wire with the canopy in the closed position and then move the canopy to the open position and you have a correctly sagging antenna.

Thank you. I do hope to make one more FW 190 before this STGB ends, so I'll keep that tip in mind :)

    Great result!

Btw.: The antenna on aircraft with the blown hood should be sagging when the hood is open. The older, flat canopy had a rolling mechanism for the antenna wire, the blown hood did not.

Ahhh - damn. But thank you, I'll try to remember it on my next build :)

  5. Thanks alot for all the nice comments.

I finished the aircraft a couple of days ago, just havent had the time to post it here.

This must have been one of my fastest ever build, 2,5 week from box to finished model.

    Here are som pictures :)

  6. Thanks alot for all the nice comments, really motivates me to move on.
After a really fast start, I've had a few days where there was no time for building.
But now the schedule had opened up, and I've finished the decals. It went on fine, with only one of them cracked up a bit, got it fixed, but it ended up a little bit out of angle..  But its okay, I learned something new :) I had to use some other decals for the crosses on the fuselage. The drawings from aeromaster clearly shows the fuselage crosses as beeing only a white cross, with fuselage color showing through, but those supplied from Aeromaster had a black cross. I had some spare decals from en FW190 A5 I've build, and they worked fine :) Here are som pictures, the clear is still wet ;)

  7. It is indeed coming along nicely and very fast :)
Today I got more painted, and I'm very pleased so far - The german ww2 scheme of RLM 82/81 over 76 (the greenish late war) just floats my boat :P

Tape and blue tac just taking of. Some places needs touch-up

    y4maOB_CFcrHywpCtjrHRL-JLEa181RgPPRuaxUx

Now with mottling on left side

    y4mfEqfWGEk2rKZTDyqHhcSqKiWNYtkxpHXY11gX

    ... and right side

    y4mhirg5CCxoDp9qasSWXxOkKLpFEfeZNNtcIjNt

And left again, but with tape taken off tail and cowl under engine.

Next up, painting the front black, and then clear coat.

  8. More progress have been made.
Painted the tailband, as I've been told the colour (RLM 24) of the decal-tailband is a bit off. I've tested many of my blue colours to see which one came closest, and I think Tamiyas XF-8 with a few drops of white in it, came close enought to RLM 24. I'll have to buy a bottle soon ;)
The white is flat white from AK real colours.

I painted the underside and sides of fuselage in RLM 76, but I used the "late war" variant from AK real colours, since the aircraft is from late 1944.

I'm going for the RLM 81/82 scheme, and now the RLM 82 is on, for which I used Humbrol 86.
I think that's it for now.

That was quick. Good to know the fit is good. Most of the sprues are same in most of Eduard's newer kits.....

I am building the A8 weekend edition so no PE. The cockpit looks awesome. The front of the canopy is fully masked in your picture above.... frame is already painted?

Thank you. Yes, the front canopy is masked and painted RLM 66, so that it will be the colour from "the inside-out". I think you can make the cockpit look just as great without using PE, the plastic parts looks really good to :)
I actually had some fitting issues when mounting the gun cowl in front of the window, it seemed a bit to wide, but thats properly just me who made an mistake somewhere :)

  10. Got a lot more done yesterday and a bit today :)
Wings are now on fuselage, and all small parts for the wheels and the propeller are now painted (mostly).

The rear canopy is the one for closed canopy, but since I'm doing mine open, I thought it would be fine to use it as a cover for the cockpit :)

  11. Got a bit more made last night.
The cockpit just went together very easily. Everything was painted wih WEM RLM 66, then given a very light drybrush with a lightgrey. Then I applied all the PE part. Considering that I really can't see the pedals, I'm not sure I'll be making those again, but hell, I know they are there :P
The seatbelts put up a bit of a fight, but turned out ok i guess :)

I then painted the rest of the parts needed, and then closed the fuselage. It just fitted beautifully!

  12. Hello
I've just bought this kit, and the Aeromaster decals, yesterday, so I could join this GB :)
I have never build eduards A8 before, but I'm beeing told it is a very good kit. I've build some of the older Fw190 kits, I remember them as a bit tricky in places.
The aircraft I'm trying to make is the Fw 190 A-8 of 8./ JG300. The eduard sæt comes with some similar decals, but I like the look better of the aeromaster.  I'll have to decide if I'm going with the RLM 75/83/76 colour scheme, or the RLM 81/83/76 scheme. I'm leaning mostly toward the latter. I believe that I didnt finish my two latest build in here, so this time I'm really putting in an efford to make it :D If things goes well I've one more in my stash, but ehmmm....
    Anyways, the pictures :)

That's a very discrete green/brown, still looks good.

    Thank you!
Green is Modelmaster Dark Green - which should be a very good match for FS 34079

The brown is from WEM (Brown Special - FS 30140) which also should be very good :)

I'm so looking forward to start with the decals, that where the model really comes alive, I think :)
