  1. Won't I lose all the details with aluminium tape ? I could give it a try if i find a way to "iron" it, to keep all the sweet rivets
  2. Thank you for the answer. I tried doing multiple coat of x11 chrome silver, I will try with a gloss finish. if it is too "shiny", I will try to find one of the ones you mentioned!
  3. Hello everybody ! I am currently building a 1/32th MK.IXc Spitfire from Revell (it is so beautiful). I want to do my finish on the plane aluminium. It has this option in the default instructions, using revell "aluminium metallic" paint, number 99. On the charts, it converts to Tamiya XF-56, Metallic Grey, that I own, but this is so dark i do not want to use this. The closest I have is Tamiya X-11, Chrome Silver, but i cannot seem to get a good finish, as this chrome effect is too shiny for the plane. I do not have any store nearby where I can buy Revell paint, and so I am kind of blocked, as I don't want to redo all the paint multiple times. Do you have any ideas on how to make that sweet aluminium finish ? Maybe brushing in one way with the chrome silver to make like a brushed metal look? I do not own an airbrush, so it is all brush painted. The photos does not look at all as in real life, so I won't even bother posting them, it will just be misleading for you ! Thank you, if you can save me I will be so happy ! Titouan
  4. Thank you for your message ! And I hope doing models won't make me a Sith !
  5. This is why I found an "All-in-One" kit, to have some paints ! And it works quite well Thanks! Haha thank you, I did put some time on it !
  6. Thank you for your answer, I'm gonna check the Tamiya brushes ! For now I use cheap Premier brushes from Canadian Tire (hardware store in Canada), it does the job and seem to keep the hair on the brush!! Thank you veru much Jeff, and yes I am going again in a few days, I ordered two kits, one easier to have fun on a plane I like (a Piper JCub!), and another one a bit harder to have a challenge ! (A Revelle 1/32 Spitfire Supermarine !)
  7. I will give alook to the Scriber ! And yes it was a lot of fun, so I am looking forward to building my next one !
  8. Yeah I did see some airbrush with good ratings not that expensive, but for now I'm sticking to paint brushes ! I will definitely keep an eye on deals if I can be lucky I will give this a try, thank you very much!
  9. Thanks for your 2 cents ! I will try, and if I'm not happy with what I get I will have some other things to try !
  10. Thank you for your comment ! Yeah, I did this weathering without any photos, that would have been a good idea ! I will try this next time. For the airbrush, thing is I am still a student, so I don't have that much money to spare on high-end tools, but I will eventually get one once I have the cash. And yeah I am disappointed with the seams in the model itself, I tried what I could with the tools I had but it is still quite harsh. I will give a try to putty next model !
  11. Thanks ! Yeah, the model was quite off sometimes, but i had no filler! I will give a try to future! I bought a Vallejo Gloss Coat to try too !
  12. Ok, the model is this fine? Damn. Looking forward to building a Tamiya model!
  13. This is quite awesome ! How did you do this rivets effects? They are really beautiful.
  14. Hello everyvody! For my first post on this forum, i want to share my first build, that i took for a test spin. As it is my first, and a kit, it is not perfect. I learned a lot during the the process, and I hope you can teach me how to do better ! It is brush painted, sadly with the default kit brush, it does leave a lot of hair behind. I bought a new set of brushes for the next one !! Main thing I learned, is DO NOT follow the damn instructions, or it will be really hard to put on some decals and to paint some pieces. And this is why some pieces are not painted, or some decals are missing. Also, I did not know I'd need to use Micro Set and Sol, so the first few decals i put on just fell after a few days. Let's begin the story with photos ! Photo 1 : After assembling (sadly close to everything as i followed the instructions), i painted what i could. First layer ! Photo 2 : After 2 layers of paint, I tried an homemade watered down Carpenters Glue mix to protect the paint. Not perfect, but it works for this test model ! Photo 3 : After quite a few layers of "protection", and a week of waiting for my MicroSet and Sol to arrive, I started to put on my decals ! What a fun part when you have the proper tools ! At this point I stopped using the kit brush, as it was really messy. Photo 4 : Some more decals ! Photo 5 : The back of the Beast Photo 6 : The belly of the Beast, as you can see it is poorly painted, and some pieces are not even fully painted, or missing decals. I will know for the next one to read carefully the instructions and to try to do the maximum without gluing everything in place... Photo 7 : I finally attached the canopy, it wasn't easy to glue it with my carpenters glue, but it worked. Photo 8 : And here is the result with the canopy! Now, one more coat of watered down caprenter's glue, and I'm going to try some weathering. Photo 9 : With some Varsol (industrial paint thinner, comes by gallon!) and some oil paints my girlfriend had lying, I tried to do some shading and rusty effects, following some tutorials on internet (Heavy Weathering FA18 by Faron Adams). Photo 10 : Here is the final result. For my first model, I am quite happy with the result. Thank you for following my story. I am looking forward to reading your comments about this build, don't be gentle because it is a first build, I want to learn to be more proficient for the next one. I bought a Minicraft Piper Cub and a Revell 1/32 Spitfire, I will share it with you when they are here and done ! As I said on photo 10, even if it is not perfect, I learned a lot with this build, so I am pretty happy with how it came out. I was sad that I hadn't realized sooner for MicroSet and Sol, and i wish i did not glue everyting so fast. But, it was quite fun to do ! Also, as you might be able to tell, I "redid" every line of the aircraft with a modelling knife. I wasnt happy with the depth of this model, so I took my knife and cut a fine line on every line. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks for reading, and hope to read you soon! Titouan
