  1. Excellent build and very atmospheric photos, agree about Edwards Park and "Nanette", always been one of my favourite WW2 reads, in fact I recently dug a couple of Eduard P39s down from the loft with a view to finally doing my version of Nanette, Always been a bit confused as to what version she was ( with no clear photos) with Claringboulds help I would have said D or maybe N ( Nanette?) and overall olive drab ,but he describes her himself (Park) as " lovely brown green grey Airacobra , which would imply P400, but also says in the text about sitting on a 37mm,(D/N) though I know they often swopped them for the 20mm which was more reliable. Anybody any more thoughts on this ?, I've been trying to pin it down for years. And thanks for the Tip about the doors, I had heard they were a problem to fit closed with the Eduard kit.
  2. Just having a reminisce about the old action comic books of my long ago "yoof", mainly the Air Ace Picture Library ones which helped inspire my life long love of aircraft modelling. I had a large collection of them at one time, a lot gathered I seem to recall from a stall down the old Walthamstow market, but lost them in a house move many years ago. I've picked up the odd copy when seen in mainly antique shops, but held back from collecting them again from e-bay, just sticking to filling the loft with kits, as you do !. The title I recalled over the years was "Never Say Die Wapiti" even to recently thinking about buying the recent kit , until I saw the price! I had bought the books by David Roach ( The Art of War and Aarrgghh!! its War) and enjoyed reading the history of them and who the artists were, so was pleased to notice on e-bay a few months ago that you can buy ( which I did) nearly all the titles transferred on to ( a very reasonably priced) disc, and which I am enjoyably working my through. Just wondering if anybody else holds the same memories of them? P.s, I must mention as well, "Achtung Schweinhund! by Harry Pearson which so evokes the memory of growing up in those times. Cheers, Hal
  3. Yes it does thanks, I havn't got 124 in my old Humbrol 'stock', but have got 230 and various USN's so will have fun comparing when the time comes. Thanks again. Hal
  4. Thanks for that Julien, I am going for the later version and have scratched a RWR on the fin, though I have yet to see what it looks like under paint Talking of which,I am looking forward to opening the can of worms as to what blue/grey shade to use.
  5. Thank you for the information Gentlemen, exactly what I needed. Just need now to work out how to accomplish it. BTW, I bought a Sparkit Mk.F7a seat for my Crusader, Best A/M seat I've ever seen or used.
  6. Hi all, Does anyone know/ have to hand the difference in size between the normal F8 and the French F8n elevators, as I believe they were enlarged. In the process of converting the old Revell/ Monogram one, Couldn't find a Hasegawa one and probably couldn't afford it if I had !
  7. Hello,... Just finished reading, "The Secret Horsepower Race" "Western Front Fighter Engine Development" by Calum E. Douglas and want to say that it has been brilliantly researched by someone who has the background to know what he is talking about (and looking at) , and has given me a different perspective on something I've been reading about for 50 years. One for all you engineers out there, not me! a lot of the technicalities were beyond my ken, but still a fascinating read.
  8. Bit late to this, but got to say, I may have to buy one of these (or more ?) in 1/72 to have a good look at it. ( I've only built in 1/48 for about 20 years) It seems IBG have been doing their homework well, apart from that fin again maybe (?). But to second Tokyo Raider, it would be great to see it scaled up to 1/48, there really is a need in that scale for a good example of the D9, and in my opinion the Eduard kit ,as well as being difficult to build, has numerous inaccuracies and fails. What with the possibility of Japo finally doing Volume 3 of their series and this , maybe 2022 will be a good year for D9 fans.
  9. Well done ,wonderful result with a difficult kit. Having followed your work in progress, yours was another example of the poor buildability of the Eduard D9 (and D11/13) . If maybe there had been more critisisms of the kit when it was first released, as there was with their original A series, maybe they would have retooled it as well, instead of keep rereleasing it as they have done again recently As it was noted in your thread there is a surprisingly long list of innaccuracies as well. With the Tamiya kit being so long in the tooth now ,as well as no engine and small undercarriage,( and the weird upkick on its nose?) , and to be fair Hobbybosses good attempt , but which also has its faults, it would be nice if someone ( updated and retooled by Eduard or Tamiya?) could give us an accurate and buildable D9 as has been done with other machines. ( Mustangs and Spitfires for two examples !)
  10. Hello Richard, Looking good, love all things D9. If you don't mind, could you clarify for me the make and origin of the detail set you used , this one seems to have escaped my attention in the past! Thanks in advance.
  11. Having had a quick look through the Japo and Crandall books , The tails are quite noticeably different, most D9s having the "upright" aerial connector, but the wider tail having the connector , small and to the front There is a nice picture of the tail of 500645 which shows this clearly, although no pics of the rest of the aircraft . The picture of the tail of 500647 doesn't quite show the top and the connector, but is obviously a wide tail, with the whole aircraft pretty well documented in the general circumstances. Cheers
  12. Remembered later last night of another company who made an engine plug for the Tamiya 190d, Parts R Parts, in America, never had one , but the website is still existing and it is on there. BTW, I said yesterday that Eduards engine plug is good , but they still missed /ignored the central support bit of "scaffolding" in between the wheel wells.
  13. Its not just the the rear of the engine that shows in the wheel bays , but also the ammunition containers for the fuselage guns, ( and spent ammo. chutes) and a lot of cabling ,pipe runs and the oil tank, Eduard do this area well, but it still needs a few extra pipe/cables added , HBoss, give you an engine rear but miss the rest, I pinched the ammo cans from an Eduard D11/13 kit which doesn't need them and scratched an oil tank and various pipes etc. I used an MDC correction set that I had had for years for my Tamiya D9, once I had worked out how it all went together, I found it to be very accurate and looks the part, and also corrects the under fuselage in this area, and maybe could be adapted for the HBoss kit. I don't know if this is still available, the MDC website is still on line , and the correction set is still on there BUT I havn't tried it and don't know if they are still trading. Maybe someone here knows ? Maybe Mr. Kermogent ,who mastered it (Adeco) can answer the question, I don't know if he is on Britmodeller but he does post on Hyperscale and Large Scale Planes. ( In fact it was he who pointed out originally( on LSP) about the plywood wing fairings on K4s in another discussion thread which is running on here at the moment. Also, further to a couple of comments in a post earlier, the Tamiya kit does seem to have a slight upward 'kick' to it , and even after a lot of side by side and drawing comparison its hard to put a finger on it, but "Banana" seems a little unfair , I also took another look at the wing dihedral compared to the Eduard and HBoss and couldn't see any major difference, maybe it's me and I didn't put the wings on tightly enough! It will be interesting to see how they all look together at the wheels ( correct size ones on the Tamiya) on stage. Nobody seems to have done a correction for the Eduard air intake for the D9 (?), I've left the original on mine but maybe will try pinching one from a Trimaster ( Italeri ) for my next one and see if I can improve this area. Anyway ,as I said before, all the above just means we need a new kit !
  14. Just in the middle of a (slow) multi build of Fw190D9s, The Tamiya , 'cos I wanted to use all the bells and whistles bits I had collected over the years, ( MDC engine ,cockpit, Eagle parts, etc. ), Eduard and Hobbyboss . The Tamiya is as stated above but I'm looking forward to how she looks when finished with all the improvements, including the undercarriage. I am quite disappointed with the Eduard kit , seeing from reviews and builds that it was fussy to put together, but thinking it was generally accurate, however after looking at a lot of drawings ( and finding that THEY all differ) and plumping for the Koichiro Abe ones in the back of Crandalls Vol.One as most accurate, I realised it left a lot to be desired, as well as the position of the supercharger intake as noted above ,there is the well known fat tail, too wide canopy, shallow cockpit and numerous small details that are not right. The Hobbyboss kit is a joy to put together by comparison, but , too flat fuselage gun hatch, too flat rear under fuselage, iffy cockpit, engine detail that needs a lot of extra detail to be acceptable. What I've realised is that we do not have an accurate or modern Fw190D9 in 1/48 scale and we need one with Tamiya and Hobbyboss buildability, with good engine, cockpit, undercarriage, gun cover, propeller ( VS111), radiator cowling etc. detail, and exhausts that can be fitted at the end ( like Tamiya) and of course an accurate outline. (BTW, though not building one at the moment, ( no engine detail) I have been looking at the old Trimaster kit as I've gone along and to be fair they made a petty good fist of it for the time) My conclusion is that we need, 1, Eduard to redo theirs, as they did with the A's, 2, Tamiya to have another go with an updated kit or 3, someone else to have a go and jump in with one , what happened to ZMs plans of a few years back? ( though not as complicated as their Ta 152s please) !. Cheers.
  15. Will be watching this one , hopefully inspire me to get going on with my one, when I've finished my 190D multi build.! I'd already wimped out of tackling the cowling, and got one from Ali, ( actually I think I may have got both, Barracudas as well ) Anyway , Huzzah, Glad to see someone else is enjoying "The Great".
