  1. Some real variation in schemes there, and like you say, some are quite unusual!
  2. That base for your M16 looks great. I'd also thought about trying to add some texture so I'll see what I can find when I decide to finish it off.
  3. Thanks, yes I've got some Citadel Nuln oil and Agrax Earthshade which I might try, then will drybrush over the top. Had a look at your Morris C8/17pdr/Jeep thread, some great tips in there, plus I have that kit in my stash so may well be referring to it again when I eventually get round to starting it. I really like these Matchbox kits. Also need to do the base for the Matchbox M16 I built earlier this year.
  4. Finishing line in sight now. Spent tonight working on the base and weathering both vehicles. Just need to fix the wall in place, add the oil drum signpost, do a few touch ups and more weathering on the base and that's it.
  5. Thanks, yes, I'm pleased with how the colour has worked out. It doesn't sound like it would be an appropriate colour but, looking at the tin, I thought it was worth giving it a go. Got both vehicles finished last night. The Chevy was straightforward, but when I installed the .50 machine gun on the Jeep, it was way too low, so low in fact it would have taken the drivers head off if traversed to the left. There was a slight panic when I thought I'd mixed up the pedestal mounts for both vehicles, but I definitely haven't, so I guess all the kits must have this issue. Anyway, a quick rummage through the spares box came up trumps with an appropriate looking piece which was glued to the bottom of the mount and painted; Looks much better now, though could still probably be a touch higher. So, here they both are; Just need to work on the base. This is where it's currently up to;
  6. Almost there with the Chevy now. Bumper, sand channels and condenser fitted, and decals applied. Also fitted the passenger side machine gun. This isn't glued, so can be moved up and down. Also ended up fitting the driver. I only intended seeing how well he would fit round the steering wheel, but it was such a faff I just ended up fixing him in place, with the steering wheel attached afterwards. It's not perfect as it was really awkward, plus I lost a gear lever in the process, though this won't really be visible. Just got to fit the other figure, plus the pedestal mounted machine gun in the back. Jeep also almost done. The twin Vickers were a faff to get in their mountings, as they kept pinging off, so they are glued in place. Just need to attach the mount to the Jeep, as well as the .50 machine gun, both crew, and the steering wheel. No decals for this one.
  7. Got the fuselage together and filled and sanded the holes in the wings where I cut the hard points off. Just seen that this GB has been extended to the 14th January, so I will probably pause this build until the New Year now, so I can concentrate on finishing my I Feel Deserted build this week.
  8. Oh, that's great news! After Friday, I won't get any modelling done until the New Year, so I was really going to struggle to get my P-47 done in the next couple of evenings.
  9. Thanks for that. I'm quite happy with how these have ended up looking, but its good to know for future projects.
  10. Started to kit out both vehicles tonight; Few more bits to add, then it's time to finish off the weapons and crew.
  11. Having finally managed to get my Spooky gunship finished in The Italian Job GB, I can now turn my attention back to this. Spent last night sorting out all the accessories, touching them up where they'd been attached to the sprue. I was never entirely happy with the colour I'd used for the seats. Using both Matchbox and Revell sets of instructions, I think I must have got mixed up at some point. Repainted them khaki, and much happier with them now. Also made a start on the base. I don't have many Revell paints, but luckily I do have a tin of 16 Desert Sand which is what is mentioned in the instructions (the Matchbox instructions don't mention paint colours for the base at all as far as I could see). Was slightly shocked at how yellow the paint looked, but once applied, I don't think it looks too bad. Further work to do on this base though of course.
  12. Wow, two pages into this thread, and I'm only just now making a start! Painted the cockpit interior and seat last night, but the main work was focused on the wings. The Airfix kit has the hard points moulded in, but Ginny, as a formation monitor, had no need of them. Sliced them off to reveal two big holes! Time for some filler.....
  13. Lovely job, especially the M3A1. I did this kit as part of the Armoured Cars and Half tracks group build earlier this year. Found it generally OK, but the fit was awful when joining the two halves of the body. I intend at some point to go back to it to weather it, and use the Redog M3 half track stowage set I bought.
  14. What a great looking (if fiddly) kit. Looks more like 1/35 rather than 1/72. Interesting to see the captured Universal Carrier in the background of the wartime photo.
  15. Beautiful model of one of my favourite ever aircraft. Some lovely details, especially the pilot's stars and stripes helmet!
  16. Esci 1/72 AC-47 Spooky gunship, finished out of the box, except for a simple flare box I cobbled together so that something was visible through the open doorway. I was worried about how the decals might be, but @Planebuilder62 kindly sent me some spares. As it turned out, the Esci decals were absolutely fine, but I really like the Spooky nose art, so I have used a combination of both sets. Kit has generally gone together pretty well, although fitting the wings to the fuselage required a bit of fettling. Brush painted with Humbrol enamels, mostly 116, 117 and 118. Link to WIP; And here is the finished article, with a big thank you for the GB extension!
  17. Thought I'd left myself too much to do, but 6 nights of solid crafting got me there!
  18. And with a final flurry of activity, we're done! Tailwheel had just been glued in place in these photos, hence the Humbrol tin propping up the rear fuselage; Decided to knock up a quick flare box using some random spares, just so something was visible through the open doorway. Will get some pics for the gallery over the weekend.
  19. Undercarriage fitted, and wing and fuselage finally joined! The undercarriage was a bit of a faff, and instructions weren't the clearest, so I used the ones for the Revell 1/48 kit which I had already downloaded. Weirdly the Esci instructions also completely omit any mention of this part; Just a few bits of painting needed (mainly making sure the camouflage patterns on the wings and fuselage line up), some aerials to add, the cockpit glass and decals!
  20. Cowlings painted; Whilst I was waiting for the various coats of paint to dry, I applied the decals on the props;
  21. Engines and cowlings attached, and ready for a coat of paint. Both halves of each horizontal stabiliser glued together too. Getting there bit by bit!
  22. Time for a long, long overdue update on my Spooky gunship! I have been working away on this, but not done anything I deemed worthy of posting. However, last night, I got the wings assembled; Props are done, plus assembled the main undercarriage, on which the wheels roll very nicely. So, this is where things are currently up to; Next lot of parts to be fitted;
  23. That is one great looking Jug so far. Love the cockpit.
  24. Would be a Matchbox A-7 Corsair for me (and yes, I still have it). It's a nice kit, but all those bombs!!
