  1. Flyhawk were due to step up to 1/350 3 years ago. That aside, its nice to see this if it does actually get released. The Dragon kit came out back in 1989!
  2. Thank you Peter, a genuinely interesting read. A lot of tips and tricks there. Plenty to read there along with the rest of his works. RIP longshanks.
  3. Hi all, A simple question which has been annoying me for the past fortnight now, just how do you paint realistic stones cast from plaster? I'm tired of all the warfare in modelling, so am starting some vignettes of stone circles, dolmens etc. Starting with this standing stone, the question is how to make it look real? So far I've primed it, sprayed it with various tamiya acrylics and given it a few coats of matt varnish. I also cast a practice piece which has been treated the same as the real piece, that has been subjected to clay, enamel and oil washes and actual attempts with plain oil paints. I haven't found anything I'm happy with yet. Unfortunately, all the guides I've found don't really show much for the stone shades I'm trying to paint. (yellow rocks on railroad layouts) These are the sort of stones I'm taking inspiration from. I already have plenty of ideas on how to tackle the lichen and moss etc, its just the basic "rock" toning that I can't figure out at all. To those who paint stones for dioramas and vignettes, how do you do it? Thanks, James.
  4. "Following on from the Fujimi Fuso" What!? Let's see a Ready for inspection photo set! That aside, a Pontos set? Someone's daring! A lot of detail will be going into this then. It'll be interesting to see how you compare Fujimi PE to Pontos'. According to "IJN Greys" by John Snyder; Kongo was painted Sasebo Grey in May of 1942, then painted Kure Grey in August of 1942, then went back to Sasebo in March of 1943, then it says it was repainted Sasebo grey in February of 1944, then once again to Kure in July 1944. Those dates do check out with the combined fleet website, but they're a bit weird when compared to how dates are laid out for other ships in the book.... Will be nice to see it go together for the one I have in my stash. James.
  5. That's actually the entry I made on Scalemates using a photo from the Shizuoka model show a couple of months ago, I would expect the kit's release within the first 6 months of 2024. I can't see this being like the 350th Didos or Nelsons, where they were given an entry in the catalogue every year for about 4 years whilst things that were never in the catalogue get a sudden unannounced release. Keep an eye on this link to Trumpeter's upcoming monthly releases, check around the 20th of the month, that'll be the first place to see new releases. Hope that helps, James.
  6. Very nicely done little cruiser there, MRMRL. The neat rigging sets her off lovely. Patiently awaiting Kagero, James.
  7. Been quietly following along MRMRL, very nice work. I really do like how those launch tarps have come out, will be stealing that idea! James.
  8. Quick! Someone get the camera! Trumpeter are finally releasing something that's been in their catalogue for years! Question is, how much will they charge? Trumpeter/Hobbyboss etc have inflated their prices to stupid levels thesee past couple of years so I can easily see this being around the £100 mark. Expect Argonaut and Scylla reboxing over the next couple of years. Now we just need the equally long awaited 350th Nelsons to arrive. James.
  9. https://andyshhq.eu/Information/Shipping-Costs-Payment-Options/ https://andyshhq.eu/Service/Frequently-Asked-Questions/shipping/#duties I am 60% sure that getting it from a UK supplier would be more expensive, also keep in mind that, for some reason, the UK seems to be the last place on earth to get Takom kits. Hope that helps, James.
  10. Very well done Sam, certainly deserves gold to my eye! James.
  11. Unfortunately Binbrook, 50s RN is really underserved outside of Atlantic models' offerings. A good look on scalemates has thrown up 1 result for a Wessex. https://www.larsenal.com/1-700-westland-wessex-x4-c2x15951957 Starling models have a Wessex HAS.3, a Gannet AEW.3 (no idea on how much that will help timescale wise) and a Wessex HAS.1 I would suggest you get in touch with Peter at Atlantic Models, as his 1/600 aircraft are all 3D printed so should be easy to scale down for a custom order? Hope that helps, James.
  12. Hopefully someone has the exact numbers in the style you need Michael, but if not hopefully these will help; https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hawk-graphics-d7002-shaded-hull-numbers--935932 https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hawk-graphics-d7001-shaded-hull-numbers--935931 Those two sets seem to be quite difficult to find. Alternatively, there's this set from Chinese eBay. Hope that helps somewhat, James.
  13. Thanks Stuart, I did think of using wire before remembering the string, 2 problems arose though. 1, I didn't have wire thin enough (too lazy and cheap to buy), and well, you'll see 2 below. Finally got some modelling done today. Started off with some repairs on a 350th New Jersey (No pictures, its too bad!), then made another one of those PE swivel masts you can see a few posts above. Then the ropework began. I originally was going to use Formula 560 so that I had a chance of removing it, that plan failed almost instantly, the weird PVA which isn't actually PVA glue just didn't have enough bite for me to manipulate the string, so I used VMS flexy 5K extra thin CA or whatever its called. I believe I also found out about that from the lovely Courageous just above me. Hopefully I've got some of the rope to hang down a bit so it looks a bit more natural Obviously, there is nowhere near as much rope up there depicting the photos above, but the plastic there is a mere 5mm wide so I hope I've got the idea of rope protection across. The section of bridge just below it will be "roped" next. I'm thinking of a very thinned down formula 560 wash just to get all those loose strands into place which you can just see. James.
