  1. I did a favour for a friend a while back and in return he had this printed for me: To say I'm chuffed is an understatement! It won't see any action for a while but that won't stop me thinking about what I'm going to do with it.
  2. "Crikey", sez you, "two updates in two days?" "Too right", sez I,"don't expect it to last!". Following yesterday's completion of the black-basing I decided to crack on and do the undersides. After a bit of to-and-fro between Azure Blue, Sky Blue and Sky Type S, I went with STS as Airfix and Eduard call for this shade in their destructions, and several old BM threads agree. The colour's a bit blown out in this photo, thanks to some fluorescent tube lights, a crappy iPhone camera and poor photography skills, but you get the gist, I'm sure. Paint is my usual Colourcoats enamel and of course it went down very nicely indeed. I'm not sure where to go next, as I've got things like the wheels, prop/spinner etc to paint, but I'm also tempted to crack on and get the topsides sprayed up too. We'll see... Cheers, JRK
  3. You're very welcome, Steve, but you got the wrong Jack!
  4. I thought I'd better to do an @Procopius and make a post to prove that I'm still kicking! As I said above, the wee Spit went on the back-burner whilst I (very...... very..... slowly...) built the Mustang for the Southern Europe GB over the summer, and messed about with my MiG-21 build. Anyway, there's not been a lot of action, but there has been some action: I'm not sure quite why you need to see three photos of my not-very-subtle black-basing, but hey... I'm going to try my best to get both this and the MiG finished reasonably quickly and then I can finally get on with another project. I haven't done a Bf109 for a while, so I might do one or two of those, or perhaps my Tamiya Jug. You never know, if I can turn up a set of canopies for a 1/72 Gannet at Telford, I might be able to clear the SOD for once. Cheers, JRK
  5. I accidentally bought another bass amp.
  6. Very cool! In a nutshell, what's wrong with the Airfix kit?
  7. That looks superb - who doesn't love a trainer with some dayglo paint?
  8. Tamiya P-51B in the scheme of Captain Andrew "Jug" Turner, 332nd FG in Italy, 1944. The kit was great, the builder less so! Paints were by Colourcoats (everything but the aluminium metallic) and HR Hobbies. Thanks, JRK
  9. Well, not perfect (when are they ever?) but she's done at last! Thanks to everyone who's offered help or advice along the way - I've really appreciated it. Cheers, JRK
  10. I'll be there again. Hoping to meet up with some of you again. James @81-er has been put in charge of making sure I don't buy a load of kits that I don't need.
  11. Right, here we go....! I've actually done something useful with this build. In this case, panel line washes. I've realised that I'm nearly there in terms of the build and so I'm keen to try and get some more bench time in this week. As it is I;m committed to tomorrow, as the wash will need wiping off! I need to fit the aerial mast and the decals to the tanks, but other than that and a little weathering we're nearly there. I might even get it done before the lock (unlike all the others I had plands for...). Cheers, JRK PS - I've also primed the Spitfire and had a think about doing something on the MiG-21!
  12. I built this kit in the same scheme - yours is much nicer!
  13. I've not had a drink since May 27th 1994; I was fifteen years old and beginning to cause myself problems. After I stopped I realised that I didn't like the effect anyway. I'm very glad that I don't drink as I've had some pretty harsh fights with my mental health over the years and I'm sure that the use of alcohol or drugs would have exacerbated this to unmanageable levels.
  14. That's lovely; I agree with the "like you stole it" comment - it's like an airborne Nova Sr!
  15. Superb work, James. I love these little fighter trainers.
  16. I got asked if I wanted to hear a joke about sodium bromide; I said "NaBrO". I don't often tell dad jokes - but when I do he always laughs.
  17. Just about, so I'm happy about the save!
  18. Sorry for the lack of updates, everyone. I've had a very busy summer and now I've got yet another dose of Covid to contend with, so I won't be finishing this build in time. I will keep going, but as I've only spent a couple of hours or so on it in the last two months I think that pulling out now is probably for the best. Turns out entropy really wasn't on my side.... Cheers, JRK
  19. Well, this is going well.... I haven't given up on this build, honest, but I've not had any bench time in ages. I'm deep into my 3rd bout of covid, too, which has put further kinks into getting the build completed. Between work, a lack of mojo and the 'rona, I haven't got anything done. However, I want to get it finished soon. I think I'll be binning off all other GB's for this year, finishing my many started builds and getting my building back on track. Cheers, JRK
  20. Hello there! This is coming on very well indeed.
  21. I dunno what AP Style or Chicago this, that or the other are but it sounds like a right pain in the gentleman's area.
  22. Okay, it will make sense, I promise!: I need some holed / corroded / damaged / completely knackered panels on this one, so this is the first stage of that process. The tube of rolled up aluminium foil is becoming slowly eaten away by the 2M hydrochloric acid in the little bottle as we speak. I hope it works as I need to cut a big chunk out of the starboard wing and replace it with what I hope will be the successful conclusion of this experiment! Cheers, JRK
