  1. After waiting what seemed like ages for some paint to arrive I've started getting the airbrush to the bits I've built already. This is only half done - they need flipping over and their other sides doing, but that'll be a job for tomorrow, I reckon. I had some annoying airbrush issues which, although now sorted, made the job longer and more finicky than I'd have hoped. Hopefully I can crack on a bit now and get some more of the building done - it doesn't feel like I've made a proper start yet. Cheers, JRK
  2. That split fuselage comes across really well, and the paint job is brilliant.
  3. Such a great-looking model; I must do what I've been threatening to do and brush-paint one again soon.
  4. I think he’ll be okay, thank you Dennis. They gave him some tablets and a tube of gunk to go in his eye. He’s had a dose of each and is doing better already.
  5. Well, good fortune to you in both endeavours. Our dog had to go to the vet today and is wearing a cone of shame after scratching the cornea of his left eye and getting it infected.
  6. Firstly, that's a very well presented model. It looks fabulous and seems to play to your style of finishing. Secondly, the story of the pilot is extremely emotive and very eloquently written. I always feel a responsibility to discover the fate of the crew; after all, after what they endured and sacrificed I feel it's the least I can do. A very thoughtful and evocative write up - thanks for sharing it with us.
  7. Man, that IP looks fantastic - I'm going to shamelessly appropriate that technique for my next build!
  8. Yes, that's what I think when I follow other folks' builds! I only built my first kit last April so I'm in no way anything other than a beginner myself. However, feel free to watch the mangling as I go!
  9. Turns out you can just butcher the booms into place:
  10. Uh, yes, luck.... Well, I've screwed it up. First of all I knocked over my bottle of TET, which went all over my cutting mat, Swiss army knife, laptop, brushes etc. Never mind, I can get new scales for the knife and the laptop still works, even if the casing now looks like it has leprosy. That was bad enough, but then, having cleared up the mess and ordered new knife scales and another bottle of TET, I continued the build. And somehow I managed to cement the under-surfaces of the wings in before attempting to fit the tail booms.... It turns out that you need to fit the booms first. I'd filled the nose cavity with lead shot; Airfix reckon 7g is needed, so I put it a bit more just to be on the safe side. I refrained from pouring CA in after the shot and used PVA instead. A less-than perfect fit around the air intakes, but not something which can't be sorted with some filler and a bit of fettling. And here's where it goes runny; you can see the undersides of the wings are on but the booms aren't. Surgery will be required... Cheers, JRK
  11. Thanks all; hopefully the paint will arrive in the next couple of days and I can really get on with things.
  12. You don't need to ask, Chris - you've given me no end of help in the 18 months I've been here!
  13. As a bit of light relief after four consecutive group builds, a never-ending Tempest and a love-hate relationship with a Defiant, and alongside my first attempt at an AFV, I've decided to build myself a nice little 1/72 aircraft to steady the ship. I had two Airfix Vampires in the stash (which turned out to be lucky because the kit I started had a piece missing and I had to scrounge one from the second kit) and as I rarely build jets I thought I'd go a bit wild and get building. Anyway, it's early stages yet, but something tells me this won't be a very long build. I've got this far: It'll be finished in the scheme of WZ584 / K, of the Central Air Traffic Control School at Shawbury in 1970. Cheers, JRK
  14. Ha! I bought the kit after blithely assuring myself that I'd just do it with the bonnet open; now having a few more modelling miles behind me I'm not so sure!
  15. That's the bunny - I've got the 2007 ProfiPack version in my stash. The one that you're supposed to build with the guts hanging out...
  16. I've never built any models other than aircraft and know the square root of zero about AFV's or the modelling of them. My good friend @Gavin Stewart makes lots of them, and challenged me to build one. He supplied me with one of these: In return, I sent him something that's out of his comfort zone, an Eduard Spitfire mkIIa, to build. I have no idea what I'm doing, no knowledge of the vehicle or any awareness of foibles of the kit or what have you, so it' s journey into the unknown. The paint is yet to arrive so I'm a bit stalled until it arrives, but I got started today and have made it this far: If anyone has any advice to share then I'm all ears! Thanks, Jackroadkill
  17. Another belter, Werdna. Which kit was it, by the way?
  18. Hi Greg, sorry, somehow I missed that this was finished. I think you've done a really nice job of this old girl - she looks great.
  19. I've never had the pleasure of building one of their kits; as a relative newbie to the game I'm still wary of biting off more than I can chew (I also may have some sort of ICM Spitfire-based trauma, but that's another story).
  20. That would be impressive enough in 1/48, never mind 1/72; fantastic work.
  21. This is my 1/48 Revell Beaufighter TF mk. X. The build wasn't without a little aggro but I'm very pleased with how she came together in the end. She's OOB other than the seatbelts and exhausts. I had planned to paint the markings on but bailed out due to time constraints, so ended up using the decals supplied by Revell. Paints were my usual Colourcoats. She's shown in the colours of 489 Sqn RNZAF in 1944. I haven't been able to find out much about the aircraft itself, or who flew it, other than in this famous picture of the aircraft the crew are named as the pilot being P/O E.F.G.Burrowes DFC and the navigator F/S D.A.Young: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.forcedlandingcollection.se%2FRAFe%2FRAF057-NE745.html&psig=AOvVaw3AjjxkKiFrsmURROYk5QC9&ust=1633190314366000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAkQjRxqFwoTCKDHt5bKqfMCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAL (Forced Landing Collection, although readily available online from many sources.) P/O Burrowes survived the war and returned to New Zealand; I'm unable to find out anything regarding F/S Young, unfortunately. Thanks, JRK
