  1. Well, so much for my smugness. Our local Aldi had the dog and cat food but there wasn't an Airfix kit to be seen, so the joke was on me.
  2. Yes please, Adam. I find that researching the fate of the aircraft and crew to be one of the primary drivers behind choosing a build.
  3. Each of the proposed GB's has a thread (initially in the "GB chat" area, and then, if enough people commit to participating, subsequently in the "Bunfight!" area) which explain the premise behind the build. The titles can be a little confusing in isolation but the proposer has to give plenty of explanation in the proposal thread so that everyone knows what builds would meet the criteria. Cheers, JRK
  4. They only do it in the run-up to Christmas, and it's only starter sets, but they're usually five pounds, so not a bad way of getting hold of small kits cheaply.
  5. I have fallen out of love with twins (even big Bristols, fnarrrr) but hey... Sign me up!
  6. A quick update - I've pre-shaded the whole airframe and applied the RLM76 on the lower surfaces and fuselage sides. I've also done the initial round of RLM81 on the fuselage and tail unit (wings and tailplane to follow). I've tried to keep the mottling reasonably subtle as there is some RLM82 to go on top of it. So far I'm pretty happy with how it's looking, and have stuck reasonably closely to the scheme provided, even though it's only HB's idea of what may have been... Cheers, JRK
  7. 'Er Indoors has asked me to go to Aldi tomorrow to buy dog and cat food. Hmmmm....
  8. Why did the chewing gum cross the road? Because it got stuck on the chicken's foot.
  9. My £11.50 1/48 Airfix Tornado GR1/1A arrived this afternoon; I'm very chuffed indeed.
  10. This build is going to look amazing. I'm always envious of how you 1/72 builders do such detailed and involved jobs on such tiny subjects. It's a fantastic kit, and it shows just what Airfix can do when they're on song. I just wish they'd issue this kit in 1/48. I really want to build a ragwing 1/48 Hurricane and at the moment just about my only option is a Hasegawa kit and an MDC converstion kit.
  11. I think I just mixed way too thin; that was sprayed at about 8psi with very little paint flow, believe it or not! Anyway, I'm going to go with the kit scheme, painted with Colourcoats enamels. I remember your build and I'm hoping this one might be half as good!
  12. I've had a couple of issues recently and have found Airfix's spares service to be very effective. If you need to make a request for a spare part it helps speed things up if you quote the numbers on the small sticker on the back of (or sometimes inside the lid of) the box in your initial contact. This can cut out a bit of backwards and forwards and get your part to you more quickly. Cheers, JRK
  13. It's not the kits I'm scared of, it's the paint job. For some reason I'm developing a real issue with just getting my backside into gear and cracking on with the painting once the build is underway.
  14. Today's news is that the airframe is complete other than aerials and other easily breakable stuff, there's been a bit of filling, sanding and polishing done (most notably on the chin panel, which had a proper old furrow of a seam line running through it) and I've done some pre-shading along the significant panel lines: I had a bit of a nightmare with this; I used my exceedingly cheap airbrush for the job, and in retrospect maybe should have stuck to my faithful Iwata, but no matter, it's on. You'll see form the photo that there were issues, but I have to say that I potentially pushed the thinning of the paint a bit far. Also the camera seems to have artificially darkened the pre-shading. In reality it's not as heavy as it looks in the image. Anyway, it will all come out in the wash, I'm sure. Cheers, JRK
  15. Leopard tank? I'll be the piranhas aren't pleased about sharing.
  16. To be fair, I'd be much more confident with the kit decals now. Go on, give them a shot!
  17. What made me happy last night was "winning" an eBay auction for a 1990's 1/48 Airfix Tonka GR1/1A for £11.50. I don't do modern aircraft, but hey.... Might have to finally build the Operation Granby aircraft I first said I was going to build in 1993.
