Sounds good. The first one I built (this Matchbox issue, same brown plastic) was inspired by Roarin' Rat. 12 year old me attempted to make a straight tube axle on leaf springs, which IIRC came out OK considering, and a flip front, which didn't... Looking forward to this one.

Looks good. I wouldn't worry about the steering box if it can't be seen anyway. If you're going for a factory appearance, the inner wings, radiator support and the hood/bonnet latch crossmember are all black. Hundreds of degrees... and who has carbon tet at home anyway? I don't want to get into whataboutery. My point was, there is no possibility that MEK will end up producing carbon tetrachloride, that's just completely false.

I still use MEK - much cheaper to buy a litre than specialist hobby products. I don't disagree that it should be treated with respect, but there is no way MEK can decompose to produce carbon tet.

Is the Hasegawa Miura better? I've only seen that one built up. The 170V looks interesting. Knowing MiniArt, they'll have you assembling the Mercedes badge from half a dozen photoetch parts.

I'm supposed to be getting rid of stuff, not adding to it, but never mind. I've always liked the Dino and this one was going cheap. The Road Runner is a back up, because I plan to restore the one I built (badly) as a teen. The Jo-Han body is more accurate than AMT's '68 RR. The Camaro is only a parts kit, but I've been after one for a while because again, I think the body looks better than the recent Revell tooling and will serve as a reference. It's also one of the handful of kits that came with optional Appliance Apache mag wheels, which IRL were used on the 1966 Mustang Mach 1 concept car and the Green Hornet's Black Beauty.

Not much, life has been getting in the way. I've painted the engine and the underside, body is in primer but I'm still cleaning up where I removed the US side marker lamps.

Yes, @Bertie Psmith the box art is interesting. Nothing done yet, other than unpacking it to check out the contents. Obligatory sprue shots follow. Flexible tracks. I'll see how I get on with them. Decals don't show up, but there are three options. A simple photoetch fret, which is fine with me. Instructions for the basic kit with a supplement for the late version and the construction of the hedgerow cutter. These suggest shaving off the rivets on the lower hull to represent a welded hull - any thoughts on that (I'm planning to build it with the 'Battling Bitch' markings)? '

I have this one, but haven't got around to it yet. The underside of the body wasn't painted at the factory, so the correct colour would be pale yellow - tan (bare fibreglass), but if you're not building it factory stock, anything goes. Yes, Corvettes had Borg Warner T10 four speeds at that time, so likely a complete drivetrain from one. Back on topic, it looks like a nice kit, looking forward to seeing it built.

As @johnlambert mentioned, the 507 had a V8 as standard. so it's already in the kit.

I know, that's what puzzled me... wasn't it also aluminium, so how much more "lightweight" could its replacement be? I suspect some hearsay/Chinese whispers and he just had them replace a tired engine (it had been raced previously) with a new one.

Having just read about this, the story seems to be that Elvis had BMW swap the engine for a lightweight BMW V8 while he was still in Germany. The Chevy swap was carried out by the next owner.

I'm building this as a Euro-spec car, so I've filed off the US side marker lights and I'll rework the bumpers to slim them down. The exhaust also needs some attention, because the Euro GTi models had a twin outlet exhaust manifold and dual downpipe. There was also an intermediate silencer which is absent from the kit part. I used part of the racing rollcage to add the second downpipe, and a piece of sprue for the silencer. Here it is mocked up. I'm not using the metal axles, so I've removed the support tabs from the floorpan and filled the holes in the spare tyre well and the back box. Time for some primer now.
