Sure, on a more modern car where they suit the design. It just looks out of proportion on old cars. Same with Cobra and GT40 replicas - they look more muscular with 15" wheels. Big wheels and rubber band tyres look daft on them...

Out for a Sunday drive this afternoon, saw a Cobra replica,, an '87/'88 Mercedes S class and two MkI MR2s - a silver C-reg and a red E-reg. The black MkI that's local has also reappeared, but now wearing rear window slats, a snorkel scoop and white wheelarch flares.

Those silly wheels aren't doing a lot for it, are they? Why do people always think bigger is better? Anything over 15" just looks out of proportion.

Yes, it probably is 1/25 as well. It was based on a Corvair, so smaller than a Corvette, I didn't know Eldon had made one though - learned something!

The Predicta was made by Monogram. The second one is the Orange Hauler, also a Starbird custom from Monogram. Third one is the Chevrolet Astro 1 concept car.

Looking forward to a build thread. As far as I know, Jo-Han got into financial difficulty in the '70s and internet rumour has it that a lot of the tooling was pilfered and sold for scrap by employees. What was left was of no interest to other model companies because it was an odd format that only fit Jo-Han's (presumably antiquated) injection moulding machines.
I think Seville acquired what was left and reissued some in the early '80s, then about 20 years ago Testors reissued the Mercury Comet and the '71 'Cuda, but I gather those were made up from parts that had already been moulded on the Jo-Han machines and put into stock some time before.

Nice. I think I use the same make of paint stand.
That orange is perfect, much better than the red. Dare I say those carbs might be letting it down a bit? The Revell '69 Camaros come with a decent Holley 4150 (as does the '69 Boss Mustang) and I've cast a few of those to replace the blobby carbs in other kits.

Having looked at the new RoG E-Type and dismissed it, I decided to keep an eye out for the original 1/25 Revell kit. This one was fairly cheap, I think it's the second version of the box art, but still early '60s (1963 IIRC). I know it's been reissued to death, but I like the older ones.

An original would say something like Revell Inc. Venice, California on the box. Reissue would say Revell-Monogram Morton Grove, IL with a 1993 copyright date.

I bought this rare AMT/ERTL 1:16 scale 1964/5 Mustang kit from Kingkit, a website I really need to stay well away from due to the unfortunate detrimental effect it has on my wallet. Heaven knows how old it is, the only clue I could find was the message "Made in the USA by ERTL" on the side of the box. Like all their pre-owned kits, it was guaranteed checked and complete and arrived well packed in excellent condition. Looking back on the site a week or so later I was surprised to find another one had appeared in it's place so perhaps not quite so rare after all!
I'm really looking forward to the build and will be trying out some of the new (to me) materials and methods I've discovered during my short sojourn on this forum. It'll be a little while yet as a dose of Real Life is hampering my efforts to find enough time to start it but I'll post a full build record as soon as I can get going on it.
That ERTL reissue is from the mid '80s. It builds up OK, but isn't entirely accurate... the main problem is the windscreen is raked too much, but not the easiest thing to fix. It has a nice set of American Racing 200S "daisy" mags, which look a lot better on it than those wheel covers.

Is it an original or a reissue? I noticed the reissues still have a 1965 date for Roth's original car, even though the model kit copyright date is later.

That series had some of the sprue gates blocked off, so they can only be built as the custom version on the box. I think it might have been a cost cutting measure when AMT was on its last legs, prior to Lesney taking over.

I built the 142 back in about 1985 and I remember the cab being a nightmare. If I were building it now, I'd definitely assemble the cab shell first and modify the interior to fit after painting.

A plan of sorts started forming. The kit chassis is so basic it might as well be ignored for any kind of proper model. Everything is cast as one. Front and rear suspension included. I've cut off the front suspension and a beam axle with transverse spring and four bar will substitute. ARE D spoke mags are the wheels of choice, with super skinnies up front and something like 8x15s out back. Rear tires are protruding out the arches, as they should.
A few old speed decals got added from old AMT and Auto World sheets and things started to come together. The car is heading to the Drag Strip rather than the Drive In, but that's not a bad thing really. The engine is leaning towards a big block Chevy with a tunnel ram and two carbs, although that might change yet. It's only the bits sticking out the hood that are important really. as I don't intend going crazy on engine detailing. Three options present themselves on the sticking out front, a pair of carbs on a tunnel ram manifold, a set of injector tubes or a supercharger and two carbs. Plenty of time to decide yet.
Just before quitting time this afternoon I added a set of silver racing stripes to the bodyshell. Done on a whim, I'm happy with the look.
More later.
I like where this is going. I have a similar one in the long queue of stalled projects, with a blown big block. Apologies for another hijack...

Saw a lovely series 1 E-type roadster this morning. Red, brown top, not over shiny so possibly unrestored. It was on a pre-'64 age related plate, which I meant to look up when I got home, but forgot the exact number.

Spotted locally, a Daytona Yellow Mk3 Cortina with a black vinyl roof. Looked good from a distance.

That's the compressor for the air suspension. The AC compressor is on the other side of the engine, above the dynamo.
