  1. Yes I realized the flap/aileron droop settings are incorrect when it was too late.......next F-4 will be better!!!
  2. Exdraken, thanks very much. I started considering an RAAF variant, would the IIIE be externally the same as the IIIO as operated by Australia? thanks again, research into the Mirage/Kfir/Dagger/Nesher is a huge rabbit hole.
  3. Hi all, I am interested in building a Mirage III of the French Air Force and my local store has the Kinetic Mirage IIIE/V South America version for sale. The South America version pictured on the box has a small fillet at the base of the fin which the French versions do not. Does anyone know if this kit contains the parts to make the different fin configurations or would I require the IIIE version. cheers and thanks in advance
  4. yes I was going to cut and pin them as per your suggestion but I have decided with plan B. I have reduced the size of the knuckles that fit into the tounges to permit them to rotate into alignment. Will be a tricky thing to get it to work but fingers crossed. I suspect this thing will be back on the shelf of shame soon anyway, cockpit is giving me grief now!!!!!! Awful kit.,
  5. correct, although it would have been awesome......my mistake.
  6. thanks mate. Tamiya acrylics, the barley grey on the fuselage was a mix based on xf-19 sky grey with a little white and a tiny bit of yellow added. The other two were xf-83 medium sea grey out of the bottle and the belly is xf-20 with a little white added.
  7. hi all, I am closing in on stashing the Kitty Hawk 1/48 Jaguar back into the darkest corners of my cupboard never to be seen again. But, I am making one last attempt to overcome some of the problems with this poor fitting kit before giving up. The biggest obstacle I see is the main landing gear. I have installed the legs and they appreared to seat correctly into their mounting points however the tounges that hold the trucks are not parallel which will result in the wheels being way out of alignment. I am wondering if there is a fix that can overcome this issue that someone could suggest? cheers and thanks in advance, Paul
  8. Wrapped up the FGR2 yesterday. A good build with some user error. I find the Revell/Hasegawa main landing gear attach points to be a weakness in the kit and if I build another I will figure out a better way of installing the main legs. I removed the flaps and slats to display in the down position however it was not until complete that I realised the F-4 appears to only have a full flap setting and not the half flap setting that I have done. I used Eduard cockpit, intake covers and wheels. Cheers folks. Go Ricciardo!!!
  9. Hi all, I am wrapping up the build of a Revell FGR2 and thought the canopies were complete however after removing the masks I noticed what appears to be a small amount of overspray or possibly mask glue left on the canopy. I prepared a test clear part, my one and only, also dipped in future and have tested out alcohol on a cotton swab but it damaged the future. Is there anything else that would gently clean up this canopy without damaging the future? I was thinking maybe enamel thinner? cheers in advance, Paul
  10. Very nice indeed. I am halfway through building the same kit albeit in much later livery. Nice kit although I have found the fit to be poor around the wing to fuse areas front and back?
  11. Wrapped up the 1/48 Super etendard. A nice kit, some minor fit issues but overall very impressive and much better than the Jaguar. The dark grey is Model Master and the light grey is a Tamiya home brew. Both acrylic.
  12. Thanks v much for the info, I will have a crack at it when I get back from a last minute business trip cheers
  13. hi all, I have started trying a new technique on my latest build, a Kitty Hawk Super Etendard, but having a lot of trouble getting the results I am looking for. I am hoping to recreate the general grime from oily fingers and boot prints that appear around hatch edges, panel edges, walkways etc and thought I would try oil paints, black and burnt umber. My daughter does a lot of painting so I have a free source of quality oils. As per several youtube videos I have watched, I have applied a small drop of black oil paint to a matt surface and then gently tried to massage the paint with a brush loaded with a drop of turpentine (white spirits?) but instead of getting a nice soft feathered result all I get is a clearly defined wet patch of oil paint. The more I massage the bigger but thinner the patch gets. I have had no luck in getting a feathered streaked like the grime blowing back from a flap hinge for example. Any thoughts on what may be going wrong? cheers in advance
  14. Im guessing that would put the F-4 up towards its max operating weight?
  15. very nice build and a great reference for my build. cheers thanks for the insight.
  16. I managed to find several pics of 466 with the white tail but all from the right side and cannot see the periscope.
  17. hi all, I am halfway through building the Revell 1/48 FGR2 and have 2 questions that I cannot solve. 1. The periscope. This build will be in the barley grey markings with a white tail circa 1991 in the Falklands. I have found an old picture of the same tail number without a periscope however some sister ships in the Falklands are pictured with a periscope in the same year. Would my build, XV466 have had the periscope retro fitted at this stage? 2. The kit comes with the large center tank however I cannot find any photos of an F-4 in the Falklands carrying this tank, only photos showing the external gun. I would have thought that the F-4 in the Falklands would have carried the center tank given the lack of alternate divert fields around the area but maybe they only ever carried a gun? Any thoughts would be much appreciated, regards
  18. looks great mate and the photos are fantastic. And a plane with an interesting history. A deck landing accident, damage during gale force winds on the island and repaired bullet holes from small arms fire. And they flew the nuts off it during the war. I have recently become fascinated by the Falklands air war and have a Kinetic Sea Harrier ready to build for a diorama to include an A-4 from the Sanchez/Morgan encounter. But short nosed A-4’s basically dont exist anymore. Thanks Hasegawa! Nice job.
  19. V nice, aint it fun getting those intakes installed!!!!
  20. outstanding, I just found an F6 on Ebay to add to the ever growing stash.... cheers
  21. not much feedback to give. looks great. BUT, where did you get it? I cant find an Airfix lightning anywhere on the web!
  22. Interesting to read. I stumbled across the white Vallejo putty and have used it on small applications several times. I do find it shrinks a lot and turns powdery and sometimes chunks fall out. BUT, it is very easy to use because of the applicator, its as easy as applying glue to a gap in a wing root for example. I find it valuable to fill thin seams followed by a cotton bud swipe to remove the excess and often can get away without any follow up sanding. Is there a better quality putty that comes with a similar applicator? Or can we thin Tamiya putty and use in a syringe? Cheers and thanks in advance.
