  1. I have a few decal sets and had no problems at all when using them with Micro Set & Sol. Their subjects are right in my wheelhouse (mainly WW2 RAAF) and from all reports, along with my own research they are very accurate. Only downside is a few decal sets that I'm after are no longer in production. I'm also not involved with them in anyway, just a happy customer.

  2. BAK-12 is the name of the cable system and there is also a portable system for airfields that are not equipped.

If you search for RAAF F-4 (s/n 69-7234) landing accident that occured in 1970, you will get some good info on when the runway cable doesn't work as advertised.

  3. Shorter wheel sponsons, the bulges on the side of the fuselage where the main landing retracts into.

Flush mounted air-conditioner intakes and exhausts on the right hand side below the cockpit and at the fwd end of the right  hand landing gear sponson.

    Extra fuselage windows.

Change the APU that is fwd of the left hand main landing gear to a GTC (different intake and exhaust).

Scribing in the forward cargo door just aft of the crew entry door. But these were bolted shut after a while.

If you look up some pictures you'll see what I mean. I think the ozmods conversion was made for the Italeri C-130E/early H kit which had these main features.

One of the straplines someone has on here is along the lines of 'don't worry about perfection, you will never acheive it'.

My wife has a list of sayings stuck on our fridge. My favourite is "Don't take yourself so seriously, because nobody else does." This is something I try to remember every day and especially when it comes to building models. At the end of the day we must remember that it's fun sticking pieces of plastic together and painting them.

Don't forget that you're looking at models that have been photographed/videod and in some cases photoshopped, you're not seeing them in person.  The camera doesn't always tell all, and despite commonly held beliefs, it can lie.

Another thing to consider, just like looking at other people's lives on social media. You don't see how many photos are taken to get that perfect shot.

  5. Hello team,

I'm planning on doing a CAC Sabre Mk 32 using the Tasman conversion with the Academy F-86F kit. I plan on chopping the aft end of the fuselage off the Academy kit and fitting that to the Tasman kit to get the open airbrakes similar to what Courageous did a few years ago with their CAC Sabre (I couldn't work out how to link a WIP thread). In regards to the Academy kit the shape of the airbrake bays need adjusting from a square to a tapered lower edge.

Does anybody know the size or angle of the airbrake? If anyone has done this, how did you go about it?

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks.

So choices would have to have RAF/FAA roundels

I'd be happy with anything from Airfix that I can put a RAAF/RAN roundel on.

Maybe a 1/72 A-4E/F will be released soon?

  7. Hello all,

Here is my last completed model for the year, the Airfix Hawker Tempest (A02109). I didn't use the kit decals for the main markings, instead using my Silhouette Portrait cutter for the roundels, SQN codes, serial number and walkways. I used Tamiya masking sheet but it was a bit uneven on the fuselage and under wing roundels so I might have to use vinyl like I did with the serial number next time. I also chopped off the gun barrels and replaced them with needles but apart from that it's all OOB. I used Humbrol enamel for the roundels but the rest of the kit was painted using SMS acrylic lacquers, followed by a panel wash and for the first time I used pencils for some weathering.

Painted up in the colours of a 3 SQN aircraft flown by FLTLT John 'Bay' Adams RAAF in which he shot down a FW190 on 30 April 1945. Post WW2 he flew Mustangs in Korea with 77SQN, commanded 76SQN in Malta and the RAAF Contingent Vung Tau in Vietnam before retiring in 1979 as an Air Vice Marshall.

Thanks for looking and a Merry New Year to everyone.

    JG.
