    Hey Alan

    Hope you don't mind me contacting you.

     

    A few weeks ago I finished a 2 FTS Harvard III as NZ1077 which currently sits in the TATATM museum here in New Plymouth. The museum contacted me, and long-story-short, I took it up there this morning to sit in their model collection.

     

    Whilst I was there I was shown a collection of built but unpainted models that they have recently acquired and would like restoring & finishing. (Again) long-story-short I now have an Italeri Sunderland III sitting on my workbench. The obvious way to go to my mind is to finish it as a late-war transporter using Johns (OMD) sheet 0949. So the question is: the scheme, Extra Dark Sea Grey & Dark Slate Grey, or something else entirely ?

     

    Any help or direction you can offer would be more than welcome. All the best from New Plymouth.

      Not sure if you have seen this on BM, I currently have a WIP

      build of a Mk III RNZAF Transport, which may/or not be of assistance

      to you?

      To answer your Query directly, the Sunderland's Arrived in Standard

      RAF TSS (Temperate Sea Scheme). which they wore till Wars end

       

      Just a quick comment on the OMD Mk Sunderland III Sheet, is that the Lower wing roundels

      are too small.

      I can say this with some authority, in that I have copies of the original RNZAF drawings

      of the Sunderland Roundels, from the RNZAF Museum

      Both Upper and Lower Wing Roundels are 72 Inch (72in Blue/ 24in White/ 18in Blue),

      the white Bars are 36 in Long/18in wide

      I plan to use the Other 72in Type C  Roundels, and colour in the Red with Blue, adding bars,

      for the lower wings (the blue is much the same so shouldn't be too difficult)

       

      The other thing to bear in mind, is that the RNZAF Mk III's didn't have a the drop down

      bomb bay doors (if planing to doors open) like the normal Sunderland's, but rather folded up

      at the top of the door inwards.

      Seating was built and installed here in NZ (austerity seating), and the Bomb Room became the

      Galley (for some 30 passengers)
