  1. Wow what a great thread , i love the intention and ambition please keep up the great work and keep posting updates I vividly remember building this very kit in the late sixties ( born 1952 ) back then i clearly remember thinking how amazingly detailed the kit was , all i have left is a photo of her with my built fleet Fantastic work
  2. Wow ! great work considering the ade of the kit and what it really is by comparison to modern kits, i have this one and bought a reissue for nostalgia as i made it back in the 60's and loved it, i have had a go at building it but it keeps going back in the box as i keep getting distracted, i really MUST retrieve it and finish it , anyway o dont mean to sound arrogant or condescending but very well done !!
  3. Hello All , i am building this interesting 1/48 subject as a tribute to a very dear friend who passed recently, we both loved the weird and wonderful modelling subjects that are now so amazingly available by considerate kit manufacturers who do their very best to satisfy our wandering penchant for different projects , Kit is by Avis models , is cleanly moulded in softish grey plastic , instructions are straightforward as is colour scheme, i have seperated the parts cleaned them up and have airbrushed some brown undercoat to enable me to use oils and clear orange to replicate the wooden interior, i will detail that up as best i can and drill holes for rigging wires prior to assembly ! http://IMG_3490 by Norman Long, on Flickr http://IMG_3557 by Norman Long, on Flickr http://IMG_3491 by Norman Long, on Flickr http://IMG_3488 by Norman Long, on Flickr
  4. This time last week shortly after i had been speaking with him my dear friend Roger Carpenter had a sudden and unforeseen heart attack and passed away , to his lovely wife Jenny and family it is a gigantic loss , All at the Bendigo Modellers Guild (Australia) send heartfelt condolences to them and we will miss our foundation member treasure the wonderful memories we each have of him, to myself Rog has been an amazing friend , totally loyal and supportive in all my endeavors , whether they be successful or otherwise ! , to say i will miss our daily chats is an understatement, we shared so much, i have memories i will treasure forever , Rog followed many people on this site and commented as Roginoz he enjoyed the forum so very much , Rest in peace my old mate you were a true gentleman . Myself pictured with Rog ( on right ) http://338418014_608316164207757_4713241986566439174_n 2 by Norman Long, on Flickr
  5. Its worth pondering that it was only some 66 years between the Wright Brothers first Flight 1903 and the first Moon Landing 1969 How on earth did we get there so quickly when inventing these types and getting distracted by lunatics ??? ( the Zerbe made one flight in 1921 ) If we had ignored the silly and preposterous we could have landed at Tranquility base in about ooooh i dunno 1925 ? Just sayin Best wishes to you and your tentacles may you spread more stuff that sticks to us all in 2023 Huzzah !!
  6. Thanks Guys for the help , much appreciated
  7. Hello I am seeking information on HMS Exeter's final paint colours at the time of her sinking in the Java Sea , im reasonably sure she was in a dark grey , can anyone help please Cheers
  8. Here's a pic of Java's aircraft under construction , i'll never whinge about rigging a 1/48 model aircraft ever again ! http://F3684B26-BE91-47CA-A6C6-8A0F456D493D_1_105_c by Norman Long, on Flickr http://E9AA4CF4-C89D-4311-9BB3-26585CD17735_1_105_c by Norman Long, on Flickr
  9. You correct guys it is HMS Pandora in the background, its at the Townsville Maritime Museum where i volunteer as a fixer upper , it's not made by me, and she's completely scratchbuilt very beautiful and very old now, i've spent a lot of time on her repairing all sorts of breakages etc and the curator wanted a Pandora's box built so i constructed one from designs/dimensions and accounts available , the museum is located at the Port and on the banks of the water, its a Tropical environment and the constant heat and humidity is not really kind to wooden ship models , the glue's perish over time but the biggest challenge i have is the rigging becomes fragile to the touch over time if not in a well sealed case and repairing it presents real hard work , but it's all extremely rewarding , i'm probably not the best person for the job but until someone with better skills and time to allocate to it all comes along i guess i'll have to do !
  10. Thanks for the likes guys and the discussion , no apologies needed Arnold ! , the curator would like me to build many more for him, i think i will do some more but this time they will need to fit around my schedule and my builds, the last ones were wanted urgently for some reason ive forgotten , well....i am 70 ...thats my feeble excuse and yes Jas i will post some pics of my other ship builds, have a lot on the go at the moment , ships, rockets , planes , star trek .......... i tend to build lots at once so i can pick what task on what subject i want to do ! cheers all
  11. Hello ! Here are two small cruisers i built for the Townsville Maritime Museum's Curator , the Museum is located in Townsville North Queensland Australia , i volunteer at the museum as a fixer upper of broken exhibits and a builder of new exhibits , mostly model ships, the curator is a Dutch born , South African Educated man now living in Australia, Robert had relatives that died when the two light cruisers of the Royal Netherlands Navy were sunk by the Japanese in WW2 , he purchased these two kits, made by Niko in resin with etched brass detailing, they are not of my usual scale which is 1/350 but i volunteered to build them and here they are , they are VERY small but i found them beautiful little kits that went together without filler and repaid the patience and time i allocated , Robert seemed very happy with my efforts , DeRuyter above and Java below http://NWL_3022-2-Edit-2 by Norman Long, on Flickr Java NWL_3015-2 by Norman Long, on Flickr De Ruyter NWL_3027-2 by Norman Long, on Flickr Together NWL_3028-2 by Norman Long, on Flickr The Curator surveys the results of my labours E1BCB154-E28B-4A66-A5E7-B7691332CD41_1_105_c by Norman Long, on Flickr Cheers all !
