I also don't understand the Revell marketing strategy.
I suspect it's along the lines of 'Don't have two versions of a kit on the market at the same time".
If you had two kits, you might not sell 100% of kit one, whereas if you have a single kit, you have a better chance of someone wanting a Hunter buying it.
I'm waiting for the F4!!
-
Does that mean you're gonna start putting up some pics of your work? Don't think I've ever seen anything from you Dave!
That's because I never manage to finish anything these days.

Been a bit quiet lately, sitting at home brooding...leg's sore...went into the loft (don't tell Mrs Clarkeeboy!!), took out one of Frank Brown's masterpieces...namely the 1/32 Hunter T7..................
The kit's fuselage is a one piece tooling, with the "100-series Avon" (you all know the one..the narrow bored version - albeit with the para housing on). It also has parts for a "200-series Avon" rear-end, for some export Tadpoles and of course the unique T12 - again with Para-fairing, so infact, identical to that on the FGA9.......
Anyway took out a tape measure and a camera..and hey preson north end........

Shape looks wrong there IMO -the lower plan line of the Hunter has a much 'sharper' up turn whereas the kit seems to have a gradual tapering over the length of the cone.

Although interestingly the shape looks different on this one:

John Adams mentions F4s fitted with F6 tailpipes on one of his posts, so beware!!

Some interesting posts:

makes sense if the F6 is shorter/wider
And Steve's much quoted post:

The only Hunters in Scotland (at oposite ends of the country) are early mks (a 1 and a 4)

But just a heads up for those of you who use SD cards for your digital cameras - just got two 1GB Sandisk Ultra II cards from an Amazon Market seller for £5.60 each (Postage was about £5 for the two) Considering Jessops etc sell these at £20+ each, well worth a look!
Seller was called 'You Want One'. Very fast service as well, ordered Tuesday night at about 12.30am, delivered by Royal Mail this AM.

My first contact with sludge washes was this article:

The Warpaint lists the spinner colour as red and white.
From memory, the undercarraige bays are aluminium, at least in some Gannets
-
At a guess, I'd say same colour as the undersides OR aluminium.
Check out some of the pictures in the British section of Dan Ford's site:

And nobody can tell me the Meteor T7 and Vampire T11 look better than the singe seat examples.
I'll give you the Jaguar, but then it was designed as a twin seater in the first place!
I'm a big trainer fan so twin seats doesn't bother me like it may do other people. What about when an aircraft that is commonly known as a twin seater was converted to single seat ?-Gnat F.1
-
Other was around - the F1 came first!
-
Blue Rider's sheet of RFC roundels had these as well, but it's long out of print
-
I thought the Vampire fuselage correction set was only produced last year for CA's Vampire kit, therefore I would have though that this is still available. Regards,
Ed
It was, but it's sold out on the Aeroclub site.

Plus there was that one Nimrod in the "Dark Hemp" scheme - I'll let Dave take up that story!
XV246, known as the 'Flying S***e'
-
51 Squadron markings are supposed to be in the box - first time I've seen the EWAU badge though

This might help:

The camera ports were usually blanked unless a camera was carried - they relied on the IR Linescan more

Huh? Cancellations? Airfix falling out with the RNLI? Can you explain for those not into all the details Jonathan?
Jens
Demise of the original Airfix forum was caused by someone posting a malicious story that all the new releases had been cancelled, and the RNLI had fallen out with Airfix over the kit.
Jonathan,
I think it was someone on the Airfix stand that told me the kit was being looked at to release as an MRA4 "at a later date".
Glad to hear they reached the same conclusion I did!
Oh, and I have one on order with the Big H. If it was in 1/144th I'd probably have half a dozen.
-
Dave - could you explain that last bit for the benefit of the hard-of-thinking (me) please?
Current operational role for the MR2 fleet involves a substantial commitment to Afghanistan, which is about as far from the sea as you can get. It surprised me that none of the press asked "What was a Maritime Recce aircraft doing over Afghanistan?" when the tragic crash happened last year.
They are used in a command and control role working with ground forces - hence the two SF soldiers on board the crashed aircraft. BAE have proposed taking that role one step further and using the bomb bay to carry JDAMS to give the aircraft an instant attack capability - hence my suggestion of B(omber)R(ecce)mk 4
-
Had one on pre-order at Hannants the minute they announced they were taking them in

As for the MRA-4 conversion, we all just know some-one's gonna tackle it even though they'd be as quick with a scratch-build.
According to tyhe scuttlebutt at the time of announcement, Airfix were going to try and design the kit so that it could be retooled as an MRA4 at a later date (Although bearing in mind the current operational role of the Nimrod,a nd what BAE are touting, maybe BRmk4 might be more appropriate)

What Edgar doesn't merntion is apoint finally cleared up by Steve Murray on HS couple of years back. The actual jet pipe diameter was the same. The later versions had a shorter rear fuselage/jet pipe housing than the mks 1 - 5, which caused the larger diameter (as it lost the sharp upslope on the last few inches of the tail pipe)
-
I copied the article, cleaned it up, and put it into PDF format (2.5 Meg). I can't locate the author, but don't think there's any copyright issue here (is there?)...
I think that the copyright would belong to the current owners of Scale Aircraft Modelling.

From what I can remember, the stripes on that scheme are pretty much identical to the ones of the Red Arrows, just painted yellow and black.
I like that scheme - Almark did a decal sheet for it

Shiny happy plastic there!

Mmmm, looks like AN didn't DO a Harrow plan (SO WTH do I remember seeing??)

Sorry Len.

Funny things magazines and preferences. My current favourite is MAM, but I still get SAM and SAMI every month as well (having full runs of each, it's hard to give up!). MAI I get occasionally if something interests me. AIR Modeller doesn't appeal for some reason.

Somewhere on the HD I have 5 RAFO Low level Jag videos - I'll see if I can dig them out & post them somewhere.
