Not Airfix, they produced exactly the numbers the traders ordered - it was the traders that over ordered based on the success of the TSR2 kit. You didn't see Airfix selling them off.
-
Nimrod is a possibility, Heller own the E-3 tool so that won't happen
-
There was a proposal for a two seat, radar equipped Scimitar with more powerful engines, one was ordered (serial XH451) but cancelled. IIRC it had tandem seats, but the javelin/Sea Vixen were adopted instead

What model has nobody kitted that you REALLY want to see?
Dave Fleming replied to Alan P's topic in Aviation Chat
Good shout for all three - and I'd add the Wapiti and a proper Wallace too. Can't believe the Fox has only been the ancient Pegasus kit -
Yeah, Xtrakit was a Sword tooling (as were the Canberra and Swift, and possibly the Hunter T7)

New 1/72 metal-wing Hurricane I from Arma Hobby -- Released!
Dave Fleming replied to Procopius's topic in The Rumourmonger
LO used by 602 and 216 for example -
The DH4 was 1967, so it's a year older than me! I always though if we were to get a new HP O series it would be from Roden, but they seem to have moved away from WW1 in recent years too. The second 1/72 Spitfire mk I was pretty worn by the time it was replaced - the wing tip navigation lights had gone. I remember searching ebay for early boxings so you got the better mold

I suspect the F-35s were just references for the Quick Build one
-
That's really interesting, I wonder if that's just clear sliding panels instead of metal ones rather than a fixed clear panel. @Graham Boak Hoping someone has had a look at R7384....
-
I think almost all the Polish squadrons had a Battle on charge at one time or another - noted with 302, 303, 306, 307, 308, 310, 312, 316, 317 and 318
-
That's another interesting feature - I suspect it's to allow the bomb aimer to lie in a more ergonomic position, but again it's not obvious on all aircraft
-
The position was there on production aircraft, the question is when/if it was replaced by a 'clear' panel (It's also interesting just how many flying and ground photos it's shown as 'open' ). Most photos of the drift site in use show it lowered below the level of the fuselage, so a fixed glass panel would only be of use if the type of bomb site had changed.
-
There's a photo top left on p31 of the surviving RCAF example which appears to show that it has the sliding shutters. I think they slide forward to open. Any of our Canadian contingent have a decent shot of that area? @airjiml2?
-
Extracts of another 3 from the IWM site - the last is interesting as it seems to show it partially open.
-
The best Battle plans are the Huntley ones that appeared in Aviation News/SAM - I'll have to have a look and see if I can find them This is the prototype Battle 2 by Dave Fleming2, on Flickr Couple of other shots Battle 3 by Dave Fleming2, on Flickr Battle 1 by Dave Fleming2, on Flickr

It's an interesting question, the only good photo of the closed bomb aimer window is of the protoype, which had a louvred shutters located between the inner and outer skin rather than externally. The shape is also usually illustrated as having an angled shape - \_/ however photos of both this and production aircraft seem to show a 'U' shape. A close look at pictures of the bomb aimers position show that internally it was the \_/ shape but externally its the 'U' shape. Don't know of any pictures of the 'glazed' panel but suspect this was added when they stopped being used as Bombers, as it's hard to see how they could have operated the bomb sight Be interestng to se ewhat's on the underside of the Rockcliffe example.

The law of fate dictates that Airfix's new kits this year will be a Fairey Battle and a DH Venom FB4 in 1/72
-
There were different types of exhaust fitted. I do think the nose looks a little slim, the side immediately before the exhausts should be parallel. And I hope they pick up the window on the bottom of the fuselage

One that always surprised me was a 1970s period Ark Royal (I kow there are resin kits) but perhaps Airfix thought it was too similar to Victorious. maybe if Matchbox had ever done bigger ships.... -

1/72 Avro Athena - the only post-war RAF aircraft that's never been kitted in any form -

An observation rather than a question - looking at the periphery of the well known picture of Clowes' P3395, I noticed that the fin flash of the aircraft om the next revetment had a reversed fin flash. A browse through other photos suggests this wasn't unique. ROYAL AIR FORCE FIGHTER COMMAND, 1939-1945.. © IWM (CH 17331) IWM Non Commercial License
