Thanks Jake - the Hawk is fine, just on hold until the pilot figure is finished and off to Neil @ Paragon for casting

-
Yep - you've got a job of work on your hands there Doc, but if anyone can do it ....

Keep us posted.

Right chaps - just a run down of the work so far
First thing I tackled was the wheels, the Eduard undercarriage set provides some nice photo-etch wheel hubs that will look a hell of a lot better than the stock model versions, next the tread on all the wheels was rescribed.

Next the main gear undercarriage bay was dremelled out and the eduard details painstakingly inserted, this has to have been one of the most god-awful fiddly things I've ever had the misfortune to do, but I gues the end result will look good under a layer of paint - should have bought the resin one... ah well.... :whistling:

Next the fuselage intakes - these need quite a bit of work to improve, they don't fit exactly perfectly, but with a bit of milliput, they look better. A small strip of styrene card was glued around the shock cone to give the impression of the shock-cone as a component which is inserted into the main intake assembly. The splitter plate was thinned out at the top and bottom of the intake, and a small piece of styrene card used to connect the upper and lower corners to the fuselage
Finally auziliary intake doors made from styrene card added instead of the kit moulded-on versons.
- I'm happy with how they look now

Next thing to do was a bit of kit surgery, the CMK resin cockpit set comes with a beautiful representation of the electronics bay which is housed in very large access doors directly behind the cockpit. Also You may notice the prominent fuselage rivet patterns which I used my scriber to add.

Yeah I couldn't resist grabbing the paint and adding a splash of colour to it - just a quick undercoat with flat black, followed by repeatedly lighter coats of grey to accentuate the detail. I've yet to add the photo-etch brackets on the shelves, and it will also have a wash to further accentuate the surface detail

Thats pretty much it for the moment - more progress very soon

Fantastic pics Andy - thanks for these, there is some real detail here.
What a stunning aircraft.
:thumbsup2: -
That is a fantastic looking Pit David - very nice work indeed!
-
Thats some cracking detail work Jens, very fine touch with the wiring and cabling .
Very nice indeed - see that pencil work ? thats PLANNING that is boys and girls

-
Thanks for the comments peeps, John - its the old re-boxed esci kit, so the surface detail is engraved and as good as I've seen on an injection moulded model, the only fault with the kit is the AV-8A seat, the cockpit rear needs some considerable surgery to fit a Mk10 bang seat.
Lovely little kit on the whole - highly recommended

I've voted.... being a blowtorch kinda bloke..

Wiki has been updated!
Nicely done

Well this was fairly quick build a few months back for the ARC Falklands Group Build, Italeri 1/72 with Aeroclub white metal seat and decals very generously supplied by our very own Rory. The Aim-9Ls were trimmed down to the missile body and new fins scratched from thin plastic card, and the mdc cord part painted over the moulded canopy version and part yellow decals cut up finely.

RIGHT!
I've had a thought....(No Skii,It did'nt hurt!)

I get them too sometimes Merv, don't worry - the numbness soon wears off

WOW
That is good Kyrre, DAMN good.
bloody fantastic camouflage

Cheers Darren + Jen

Yeap it did, you can hear the test pilots describe the moment on the Documentary. That why Airfix did the box art to represent that exact moment.
someone needs to tell Wiki then!

Absolutely, nowt wrong with Tomcats, in moderation

Thats a particularly excellent example Darren, the atmosphere of the diorama is excellent,
love it !

Nice job! I've got one of these (well, a Trumpy Op. Telic Chally II to be precise) in my stash. I've heard that the tracks are too short. Did you have any problems, Sean?
Cheers,
Chris.
Hi chris
I built the same version as Sean years ago but converted it using Accurate Armours Challenger 1 sideskirts and scratchbuilt details, the tracks seemed a little tight but it isn't a problem as with the side armour and sand skirts on there is very little track on view.
That turret rear is a bloody pain though !

Neil - those pics are excellent, best pics of the flaps and general rivet detail I've seen yet
Thanks !

Great shots Neil - any plans to produce these in resin (I know you've probably been asked this a lot )

link not working for me Darius

Beautiful work on those 2 Falcon, the orange tipped version looks particularly striking.
Love the canopy tint on the background one - it looks spot on!
-
Hey I built this one too !
I never realised Airfix re-boxed the 1/35 Trumpeter kit, its a nice kit apart from the really fiddly assemblies like the mantlet laser rangefinder and turret rear.
Lovely build Sean, lovely paintwork too.

Ive heard various versions of that Lightning chase plane v TSR.2 with only one afterburner lit scenario - did it really leave a Lightning standing? seems unlikely given the Lightnings staggering performance.
PS - lovely kitbash on that Panavia 100 Geoff

-
Not dissing a superb build John, but when I look at the Italeri nose, it looks too big and doominating... Any thoughts? I've got the kit in the stash, and when I try to fit the radome to the fuselage, it is slightly larger all around. I'm beginning to wonder if it is also too long?
Jens
Hi Jens, I must admit I haven't noticed it up till now, mind you I think the all-black radome does tend to enhance the size a little, and the photos increase the size of it with the perspective.
I always thought of the Tornado nose as tapering quite rapidly at the mid point to the pitot, It would be interesting to compare the kit profile with a photo or plan, as in some photos it does indeed seem quite bulbous!

Hi Merv
Yeah I hollowed out the rear and ran a couple of flare tubes made from the electrical wire insulation from a PC fan inside, reference material was pretty sketchy at the time but I'm hoping it was a fair approximation !
