  1. Lovely Job John, I love Granby Tornados .

Jens raised the issue of the nose being slightly off on the Italeri kit on another thread a while back, I must admit I've not noticed a problem wit h it myself, I'm aware it is wrong on the Revell 1/72, but I always thought the Italeri 1/48 was pretty much spot on!

Anyway, beautiful build - the thrust reverse scorching is particularly well done

  2. Amazing photos peeps, :worthy:

I may be able to build a model in a weekend :analintruder: , but I can't take a photo of a moving aircraft for poo. :fraidnot:

aye - but don't forget the 6ft high human wall at most airshows - I gave up at Farnborough and just pointed at stuff overhead :D

AMAZING F-16 pic, best I've seen too.

  3. 9. Fit the main gear legs into place as these cannot be correctly placed if the under fuselage has been fixed in place.

    ew........... :whistling:

Very nicely done Geoff, others will find that very useful.

I have noticed after cramming the resin into the nose and sealing everything up, I have a warped fuselage too, the bomb bay is pointing in a different direction to the fuselage :o:( - still, with some careful sanding and cutting, I've made it slightly less pronounced..

I wouldn't describe it as a dog of a kit, not at all, but it does require a fair bit of work and dry fitting, and as you rightly say Geoff, no other injection-moulded kit manufacturer has stepped up to the plate with this aircraft.

    John

  4. Certainly does Geoff ! Thanks :thumbsup2:

Glad you like it Gary, thanks mate :)

Nev - some of the cables come with the eduard set, the orange bunched cables are just the copper strands of a household power cable all twisted together, and the others are fuse wire.

    John

  5. Cheers Anthony - love the sig by the way :D

Thanks for those pics Chris - I'm quite in interested in the orange/white scheme you did, is it based on a proposed TSR scheme or something of your own design? I like it !

The cmk bomb bay does look really nice though !

    - more progress to report

The front gearbay had the front corner removed to accomodate the electronics bay, I've undercoated the bay black in preparation for dusting with progressively lighter shades. The good thing is the front undercarriage leg will pretty much obscure that little fiasco, so no harm there ;)

The rear gear bays have had some extra detail added to the existing eduard pipework - they will receive a subtle wash and the cabling / pipes will get a little more colour.

  6. This model was the one which first prompted me to start modelling again after a few years without touching a single kit, after I saw photos of it Skii posted on another forum (overclockers.co.uk), so for that Skii, I thank you!

Such a shame it ended up as KIA though :( do you plan to build a replacement at any point? Recall mention of a 1/32 attempt in 2 squadron markings...

    :)

Will - thanks, I'm very glad it got you started into the hobby again, yes there is a 1/32 version waiting in the wings, however I need to grab the flightpath GR4 set and various other bits before embarking on the big one - in the mean time I have a TSR.2 to be cracking on with ;)

    cheers

    John

  7. That Tornado is simply incredible, Skii, you must be very proud of it.

Out of interest, not including your time or paint or suchlike, just parts, what would it cost to build, the Italeri kit, Airfix parts and the other stuff you bought?

Or perhaps I'd best not know :)

Hoping this is the 5000th post to get me off to a flying start

    Thanks again guys

cost of building her..? hmmmm Lets see...

    Italeri Kit - £14.00

Airfix Kit off Ebay - £10.00

    Neomega cockpit - £18.00

    Paragon Flaps - £13.00

    Front Fin correction - £3.00

    Bulged wheels - £3.50

    Burner Cans - £4.00

    XtraDecal markings - £11.00

    Flightpath Tiald pod - £4.00

/\ and that lot is without P&P !

Yep - an accurate Fin is not a cheap project, which goes to show how good a prize Neil has generously donated for the 5000th post.....

    ......which will be TODAY!!!!!! :partytime:

  8. Heh, heh, ....I was just going to post a link to Vladimir Begeras build on ARC but I see you've beaten me to it.

His efforts should give you some inspiration. I know yours will be just as good Skii, (if not,...BETTER :thumbsup2: )

    Great stuff.

Thanks Guy - he's certainly set the bar high hasn't he !?!

His is a beaut isn't it.

I guess you're not going to do a preshading jobby like on your tonka and lanc right skii? Preshaded white just looks plain wrong. I admired your FRS.1 for the lack of preshading actually, quite a different style for you if I may say so.

Thanks Jake, sorry to dissapoint you mate, but the aircraft will be preshaded in certain areas to reflect the grubby areas on he original aircraft, it wouldn't have looked right on a glossy sea harrier, but on this model, I think it will, if done carefully and sparingly ;)

    Rich.....I think

LOL Rich - lay of the sauce mate, its the middle of the week :D

    John

  9. Cheers Ian and Geoff

All sorted now - the front leg will hide the sins so onto the main gearbays.

Incidentally Geoff - what did XR219 carry in her bomb-bay during testing ? I was considering the model with the bomb bay open, but seeing as all that was contained was a load of insulation padding I'm not so sure !

    cheers

    John

  10. Juanjo school - hehe nice one Jen :D

Thanks peeps - bit of a bugger this problem, but I've now got a handle on it

Bummer that John. Are you sure Airfix got that wheel well right? If there is a panel line running around the circumference of the fuselage at that stage, that indicates a bulkhead, and being at the end of the wheel well, I don't see any benefit in making a cutout in the bulkhead to accommodate some extra space as long as it doesn't prevent the gear from operating properly...

    Jens

    Hi Jens

Yeah I'm pretty sure the location of the wheel well is correct - the front gear leg runs down directly behind the electronics bay, so I can't imagine the wheel bay could extend much further than that in reality.

I've remedied the problem by cutting away the front corner of the wheelbay to accomodate the resin corner of the avionics bay, it doesn't look great, but with the front gear leg in place with supporting struts, wiring and cabling and gear doors in place, I'm banking on most of the problem being hidden from sight from most angles ;)

    More pics to follow later

  11. Thankyou chaps, I'm glad you like it

Geoff- thank you very much for the hud info, definately makes sense as I was looking at the FS2004 model by Alphasim which show cockpit shots with a full functional HUD, but projected seemingly onto the windshield. Thanks again for that :thumbsup2

Now - ladies and gents, here is the first stumbling block of combining the CMK resin pit with the Airfix kit.

See that big white thing ? thats the front wheelbay, and the black block it is sitting on is the rear of the resin avionics bay - yep, its supposed to go right there - a whole centimetre of the front wheelbay area is occupied by resin.

    Bugger.

Looks like I'm going to have to shorten the front wheelbay by about 10 mil . Kept this bit quiet in the instructions didn't ya CMK ? :badmood:
