  1. Yeah I know :shithappens:

I'm after an F-16 in 1/72, but I want a pretty aggressor build, so I'm not massively bothered about stores.

Is the Revell the best option ? or Tamigawa ? opinions please peeps

    thanks

    John

  2. I just posted on the canopy thread, but this is the bit that I couldn't bring myself to post, so I thought I'd share it with you guys (may live to regret this!):

To help everyone out I've compiled a list of possible solutions

    1. repair the glitch yourself with polishing cloths etc. (requires work)
    2. Ignore the mark, as it's tiny afterall. If you make sure you botch something more obvious up, it'll remove the focus from the tiny scratch
    3. Ignore the scratch, but build the kit on a base with the legend "The scratch on the canopy isn't my fault"
    4. Build the kit, but never show it to anyone that might notice the scratch
    5. Wait ages until Tamiya has "evaluated" the problem, and receive lots of new canopies, then blow the dust off your kits & add masses of resin that will have come out while you were waiting
    6. Build the kit without the canopy & wait for your replacement (you might miss out on the resin)
    7. Build the kit with the canopy you weren't going to use, and send the other one off for replacing
    8. Scream like a big baby (like some did about the Dragon P-51D) and throw the whole lot in the bin
    9. Sell your kit(s - you couldn't resist buying lots, could you?) on eBay, and do something completely different, like an F-18 - you couldn't get more different really, could you? Well, unless you exclude helicopters & every other kit of the world's aircraft that you usually ignore.

    :D

You do have to wonder how many people wailing and gnashing about the microscopic scratch in their canopies will finish their F-16s adorned with wobbly masking lines, glue stains, brush marks and fingerprints...

    ...... :whistling:

  3. Wow.... 3 pages on a canopy "crack"

4 Now. I think they'll be scrambling the National guard soon...

It's a wierd one, some people are calling it a scratch, some are calling it a crack, some have polished it off succesfully, others haven't.

Damn Tamigawa and their perfect kits

  4. More progress - the nosecone went on, and after considerable sanding and rescribing it actually fit the contours of the fuselage  - vacform windscreen on and puttied flush with the fuselage.

Also a test fit of the landing gear, I assembled the fuselage underside before attaching the main gear legs - thankfully they rotate and click into place, even with the photoetch in the gear bay - the model sits comfortably and sturdily with all 3 legs dry-fitted in position.

  5. That canopy opening thing is just SOOOOOO funny (as a confirmed canopy closer) - last time I recall DIY parts in a mainstream kit was the Fujimi A-4B

    yer not wrong !

I think fuse wire would be a better option than stretched sprue having thought about it.

  6. I must admit I have been toying witht he idea of letting one of mine go. Firstly 1/72 isn't really my thing and after looking at the work involved,,,, well.

But fair does John. Thats some top class work, again. Makes me sick.

    Nige

lol - don't you worry mate - you are well capable of tackling it, its nothing compared to the work you did on your Victor ;)

    John,

that cable work you have done looks great. This one is going to be a stunner when its done.

    cheers Darren :)
