  1. Cheers Mike - this will be a Westland WAH-64 apache ;)

    Some more updates

I've been working on upgrading the old Revell 'A' cockpit to the D version, I've scratched a replacement panel to fit over the kit panel for the pilot, and work on the gunner's panel is mid-way. Still to do the side panels and other pit features. Also replaced the kit 'cushions' with my own milliput versions, belts to be added later when I get more info on their fixing points.

Also I've removed the moulded-on upper and lower parts of the undercarriage shock absorbers from the kit sponsons, and added a centre section - re-inforced with thick wire (in fact 2 x 1mm drill bits!)

Finally I've 'upgraded' the kit 30mm M230 chain-gun by scratchbuilding a replacement muzzle-brake, motor and protective cage (not represented in the kit)

The ammo chute is going to be a challenge, but I've got some ideas ;)

  2. I don't think the cockpit parts will be right for a Longbow, A and D IPs are quite different. As a guess, I'd say you can use seat straps, rotor, undercarriage, cable cutters, 'Disco' light, chaff/flare dispenser, wheels, rocket pod details, Hellfire missiles and launch rail assemblies.

You know the sponsons on the D are quite a bit different from the A, right?

    Hi Martin

Yeah I've got the differences covered ;)

I guess I'm just weighing up wether its worth the while for the extra details

  3. That is, until they meet each other. :boxing::fight:

I'm not too worried, I can run faster :P

On the subject of aircraft tyres my genre is generally more modern stuff, and every tyre I've ever done has been done with Lifecolor matt black and a decent quality brush, and I've always been satisfied that the result looks like a rubber tyre, but I'm wierd like that ;)

  4. This is most peculiar. I've never used an airbrush and have never had matt paint come out anything other than matt, and that includes black. It may depend whose "matt black" it is, of course. At the moment I use Citadel Chaos Black and it's flat as a fluke.

Same here, citadel chaos black or lifecolor matt black, both dry to a beautiful smooth matt finish.

  5. Firstly, don't paint the tyres first - I always paint the hubs to begin with, then load up a fine brush with a black wash solution or very thinned black paint and let capilliary action draw it around the hub - let it dry. Now with a clear black demarcation line around the tyre hub, you can paint the tyre colour without straying over the line ;)

  6. Righty then, a further update.

I've finished the basic shape of both sponsons, ensuring both are a snug fit without having to make any alterations to the fuselage, I've left the bottom of them until after they are fitted and the fuselage closed up.

And this is how they look in place on the airframe, the starboard sponson needs a few more recesses cutting into it, as well as the half-moon plates fitted at the front ends to presumably mount the HIDAS equipment, also lots of scribing and mesh detail to be added :)

finally here was a fun little project - this is the kit M261 rocket pod with the rounded fairing at the front,

I sandwiched layers of plastic card together, then carefully drilled (not very carefully on the first attempt!!) the 19 holes , after this it was cemented in place to the kit pod and then dremelled down to the rounded shape.

It took two attempts, but here is the finished pod which I'm quite pleased with :)
