  1. Very little time to dedicate to this 262 but have been, over the last 2-3 weeks, experimenting with the bare metal finish. I think I'm happy ish.
  2. Please may I enter this super looking group build with this, my first ever Me262? Started yesterday with a little bit of cockpit progress.
  3. Very Ancient Frog Republic P47D Thunderbolt (F210F) French Air Force GCII/3 'Dauphine' 4 Escadrille 1944
  4. The decals were a nightmare, 50% of them cracked after putting in water which added another 3/4 hour to the job. But we got there! Gallery updated
  5. Hi Dave, I've got the world's worst wooden ruler but here is a photo that might help
  6. With a week to go it should all come together. Had a nightmare with the devil's colour and had to undercoat with white first. Why I think putting yellow without an undercoat would work I don't know! To do: undercarriage, canopy, prop and decals. Two of the propeller blades were broken so it has been a bit of delicate task to glue them back on and align but I think it's there.
  7. Two Macchi MC202 Folgore fighters 1/72 Frog - 363 Sq, 150 Gruppo, 53 Stormo - Benghazi, Libya, July 1942 Italeri - 85 Sq, 3 Stormo, 18 Gruppo - Tunisa, January 1943 Thank you for looking and thank you for the group build
  8. Thank you very much for this group build, very enjoyable Gallery updated
  9. Bit late to the Thunderbolt party so this will be a pretty quick build (only 5 steps on the instructions). This French Air Force Thunderbolt will join several others but I think it will be a different squadron; GC/II/3 4e Escadrille. Compared to the featherweight Macchi 202's I've just finished (should be some sun on Boxing Day for gallery photos) this plane is an absolute heavyweight - it's huge!
  10. Only 10 days to go but I've got the camouflage done at last. I saw another Folgore in the group build with the reverse Nocciola Chiaro (sand) over a Verde Oliva Scuro (green) base so opted to for two slightly contrasting green over sand which are rather attractive I thought. Yesterday attached the undercarriage and aerials so just rear wheels and final touch ups required and they should be looking favolosa by the weekend..!
  11. Right, need to get my skates on with a month to go. Sand base coats are on just need to focus on the green camo and the rest should be easy!
  12. Coming along although not without some shenanigans..! Even though I spent a little while lining up and gluing the Italeri prop spinner, a day later it looked ever so slightly out of kilter. Knife out, it had to come off. Back on now and much better (if a little battered). Some filler was required on some gaps, especially on the Frog. Several filters to attach, a little filing and then I think we're ready for first coats of SAND
  13. Frog on the left and bottom, Italeri on the right and top. I'm sure I'll regret attaching and painting the props (fatter on the Italeri) at this early stage. One is bound to get pinged off..! The Italeri is more refined with quite subtle surface markings contrasting to the almost absence of any on the Frog. Got a few days off work now so should get some wings on in the next couple of days.
  14. We are underway with the double MC202 Folgore build. Same aircraft, very different kits. 28 parts on the Frog, 40 on the Italeri. Looking forward to see how they pan out (and if they look more or less the same at the end).
  15. For the first time ever, let alone on a group build, I shall be attempting two kits side by side. A pair of Macchi C.202 Folgore in gorgeous sand/green desert schemes. Wish me luck..!
  16. Vintage Hasegawa Lockheed P-38J/L Lightning 20th Fighter Group operating from RAF Kings Cliffe in Northamptonshire Thank you for looking
  17. Well, it's finished, I'm pretty happy with this Hasegawa Lightning. Not enough updates due to work schedule over the last couple of months. Gallery updated
  18. First few coats (which obviously show up a few minor fit issues, which I probably won't worry about) in the 77th FS 20th FG scheme - England, Spring 1944.
  19. Now recognisable as a P38 under construction. What a fantastical shape this thing is...!
  20. We're off the starting blocks. Liking this kit so far. A few areas of flash but fit is good and I think this will come together quite quickly. I haven't really dabbled much in weathering but I think this is the time to experiment. I will definitely aim to keep it subtle but any 'top 3' weathering tips would be gratefully received.
  21. My entry for Big in Japan is this vintage (originally late 70's?) Hasegawa Lockheed P-38 1/72. Never built a Lightning so this could be interesting. Decals look in fairly good nick. I quite fancy the green/grey scheme of 20th Fighter Group operating from RAF Kings Cliffe in Northhamptonshire. Doesn't appear to be much online about this kit, might be a good reason for that Wish me luck..!
  22. Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 Airfix A50082 Starter Kit "Yellow 10" of 6 Staffel, II Gruppe, JG.26 'Schlageter' 1945 Nordhorn Thank you for looking Tom
  23. Last pic before finish photo call hopefully this weekend. Out of focus bemused pheasants in the garden watching me! Fairly pleased with the cotton bud mottling and final look. Need to glue the pitot tube back on after I pinged it off. Never really thought of Fw190D9 as having any beauty but I think, after staring at it all week on my work desk, it's starting to grow on me!
  24. This is the base colours and coats completed. I'm using the (relatively OK) paints that came with this starter set so next up is the Humbrol 78 for the camouflage. To achieve a stippling effect without an airbrush my go to method is fairly wet and thin paint applied to a cotton bud. Fingers crossed and wish me luck. Then it's find and paint the wheels and then engine, guns, canopy, decals and all should be good. I'm liking this easy Airfix starter
