  2. Light Admiralty Grey was also used as an upper surface camouflage color in RAN FAA A-4G Skyhawks, but also more commonly in British wheel wells as Giorgio has said.

  4. Yes the more I look at the part the more I think it is a yoke for the tailwheel rather than using the single piece.
  5. Interesting, they certainly have taken optional parts to a theoretical limit. I note amongst the many other parts what appears to be a tail skid at Frame P no 71 and Cannons for a future Ib, IIb or Vb at frame R No 7.
  6. The lamps have been discussed before: ' From the Spitfire Site: Internal structure of the Type C wing as fitted to the Spitfire Mk. VIII. The leading edge fuel tank was peculiar to this mark and was not mounted on Spitfires Mk. V and IX. Interestingly, both this and the subsequent drawing (produced by Supermarine) of the Mk. VII show the downward identification lamp. However, this item was deleted in the Mk. VII & VIII production, by modification No. 746 issued on 1 May 1943. (note though reintroduction in the thread referenced above)

  9. Happens all the time unfortunately, the articles I wrote covering the 75 Sqn deployment on Op Falconer for Hyperscale ended up providing a fair chunk of both articles in Australian Aviation and the relevant Osprey volume on Hornets in OIF.

  13. Now crying out for some AURI or ALRI decal options. Seems to be one of the few export operators not covered by the kit or Hi Decal.
  14. The BoB Museum at Tangmere was the only place where photos were not allowed of all the museums I visited in the Uk over the years and then only in the galleries with personal memorabilia etc. You could photograph all their aircraft both inside and out.
  15. One thing worth pointing out is the both BW examples posted are not Corsairs but Hellcats. It is generally accepted that Grumman used good matches for MAP colours in their production, whereas Vought and Eastern used ANA agreed matches. WRT to the Hellcats I think whilst there would be some expected colour difference as batches and paint production not to mention surface could change even with good matches, some of the tonal change could indeed be due fresh paint over older colours as Graham has said (and darker underneath colour from modified European roundels).

    This is turning into a bit of a history lesson, but most people do not know that the Republic of Ireland remained a member of the British Commonwealth until April 1949. What are known as the "troubles" between the Provisional IRA and the British Government did not flare until the late 1960s and into the 1970s, within Northern Ireland, a part of the United Kingdom, although they benefitted from safe haven to an extent in the Republic of Ireland (the independent South).

    Not in this case - it was because the Republic of Ireland was officially neutral in WWII and international law demanded that equipment operated by belligerent countries be impounded for the duration of hostilities if they enter neutral territory.
  22. There is no mention of Raiders in original Indonesian archival sources. That War Thunder link is rubbish too, Indonesia never received Spitfires, F4Us or P-40s. It did take over P-51s and B-25s for the Dutch as part of the hand over sovereignty to the RIS in December 1949. I have to agree with Arawasi commentary.

I think you will find in the F Type shown In your photo has the two front wheels spread wider and the front squared off, whereas the earlier B model has the two front wheels mounted close to each like a castor wheel.
