  1. The dimensions of the F4J are pretty well known, couldn't you extrapolate the dimensions of the ID letters from a photo?
  2. After about 30 seconds research I'm of the opinion that AMB might be the actual author of the Warpaint JP book!
  3. Oh yes you blimmin' well can! And that's swearing! Will this one be the wheelbarrow or the t**?
  4. Try BBMF. If I remember rightly their Lancaster was fitted with Shackleton main wheels. Their Facebook page is here:https://www.facebook.com/BBMF.Official
  5. I wouldn't be too sure! Some people don't stay the course for whatever reason and there are usually parts or complete kits up on e-bay, not to mention those who buy the first one or two issues out of curiosity...
  6. For an extra £1.50 an episode you can get a display case. Fantastic value at £150.00 NOT! How many people actually complete these things?
  7. I've only had a quick browse thrugh this topic but I haven't seen the Revell 109" Land Rover mentioned. It's a good kit for shape but they've spoiled it by giving it 6-stud wheels! Bl00dy clowns! :clown:
  8. You wouldn't have said that 70 years ago!
  9. I don't think a new tool 1/72 Buccaneer would be out of the question considering the old one was such a consistent seller over the years. If they just reworked the airframe and released it with the new weapons from the last batch they could save on tooling. I hope it's at least on their "To consider" pile, along with a UK Phantom, 1/72 Javelin, later model Anson, Argosy (Long shot I know), Beech King Air, JP5/Strikemaster (Retool or re-release.) etc. etc.
  10. Thanks for the replies so far. For my second question: What is the appendage on the starboard side of the tailcone? Is this the Red Steer scanner? I've searched for references and there's loads of pictures of the scanner itself but nothing tyng it to the actual fairing. Here's a rather sad example: Lastly, did 607 carry 1 or 2 Red Shrimp aerial plates?
  11. The actual colour is mentioned in the book. It'll take some browsing to find it, but I think DSG will be the way to go. The photo doesn't do the undersides justice due to the lighting conditions but you can see just how manky the topsides were!
  12. I think I've answered my question. There's a photo in Vulcan 607 showing the Dash-10 being worked on by a techy. I'd seen it before but hadn't noticed the bracket on the wing above which almost matches the Airfix offering (with a little work). God knows when I'll start building this but at least I'm a tiny step closer.
  13. I think the actual underside colour was something akin to EDSG. I also think that the pylons in the kit were for the twin shrikes as on BB7 as they're identical, the Dash -10 wasn't carried as there was no ECM requirement by then, so I still need to find details for the Dash-10 fitting.
  14. I've seen the book photos (Obviously as I've been reading it!) but my eyesight's not really up to the job. I might try scanning them. It might also clear up the Dash-10 bracket question.
  15. Thanks for the quick reply Rob. I want to model 607 at the time of BB1 so there won't be any squadron markings. The Airfix decals represent her as at August 1982, just after the war ended so I presume that, if the Airfix sheet is correct, the serial font would be correct, unless she was repainted between the end of the war in mid-June and August. Probably unlikely. Also, if the uppers were faded, then fresh paint over the squadron markings would stick out like a sore thumb unless they colour-matched the existing paint. Again unlikely. Do any (decent) photos exist of 607 actually leaving for or returning from the mission?
  16. I've been browsing through my stash and came across the Falklands anniversary boxing of the Airfix Vulcan, which has decals (transfers!) for 607. Coincidentally I've also been reading "Vulcan 607" by Rowland White. I think you know where this might be heading! Anyhoo, I have a few questions that I'd like to pose to the Vulcan experts out there... Firstly the Dash-10 pylon. There are two identical pylons supplied with the kit. Would the starboard one be a match for the "home made" original or are they both Shrike rails as per 607's last Black Buck mission? If the latter, does anybody have a decent reference for the correct bracket? Next the squadron markings that were removed for the missions. How were these originally applied? Were they painted on and then painted over, or (probably less likely) were they stuck on and then stripped off? Also, would there have been any paint mismatch where the markings had been? Again, any references would be greatly received. I know the undersides were repainted but I can't see them doing the uppers as there wasn't time. I won't be doing the build immediately so there's no rush, I'm just curious. Thanks in advance.
  17. I hope they've said goodbye to the way they fold their instruction sheets!
  18. Or you could apply a base coat of silver, followed by a top coat of Tamiya transparent green.
  19. I was comparing both my (as yet unbuilt) F6 and F2A sprues this morning and they're identical, so surely any faults on the airframe should be echoed in both boxings? As a brief aside, I was browsing Hannants webside for assorted Lightning bits and noticed a lot of correction sets by various manufacturers. Is there anything intrinsically wrong with the Airfix kits?
  20. Why not a TSR2 whif in Desert Pink a la Gulf War?
  21. I remember wearing a seat pack parachute when Chipmunk flying as an Air Cadet. If it was done up and tightened properly you could hardly walk at all!
  22. I think most aircraft with a framed canopy had an ejectable panel as an emergency escape hatch. Certainly the Lancaster and Mosquito did.
  23. That WAAF's shoes are a bit shiny, considering the surroundings!
  24. So he wasn't very good then! Seriously though, great build and paint job!
